With the venue filling up, 4-piece The Reverse took the stage with little ceremony. Straight away the deserved self-belief of the band was apparent. Looking like a proper group, the at times military drumbeat, underscored a spiky and exciting performance. The band members divided their attention between the audience and their guitars and seemed to play both as well as each other. I'd already noticed one of the guitarists walking through the bar thanks to his combination of big curly hair and tight, ripped jeans, more than any member of the band he looked totally focussed on the music, not taking his eyes of his guitar until he spotted his pint at the end of the set. Only one song was a bit shonky and even then it was more that it was a bit ordinary compared with the energy of the others. (Wishing For A Win and Apologies Make You Dance being two stand outs). I'm sure there's still time for the band to develop a full set and curiously I don't think the tracks available on-line do justice to their live performance. But I do recommend you check them out. They did the hard work of moving people out of their seats to check out a band they'd never heard of and didn't come to see.
