After this, we're probably going into studio hibernation for a while to record a new album, and we'll try to make it out to play, but it may be a bit, so don't miss this one.

Yes it's 18+, only $7, and yes, we play at 9 PM.

Yo people,

 ....

I realized that we haven’t posted a new blog in months so here we go. Right now, we are almost done writing our currently untitled new album, and we plan to hitting the studio late Dec. There are about 2-3 more songs we’d like to add the 9 finished songs being demoed right now to complete it.

 ....

I hate reading descriptions of new albums by the bands (eg It's like if the Fuguees made Mastodon's Crack the Skye played by Rush wishing they were SikTh?!?) so I’ll keep it really brief. Musically, it doesn’t stray too far from our sound. Though, our dark moments are now a lot heavier, the lite parts are moodier and more melodic, and the arrangements are a lot tighter. The lyrics that Graham and I have written are a lot more personal and direct then what we've done before. There! Done! quick and to the pointless. (ahh Queens of the stone age)

 ...

If you’ve been to our recent shows, you’ve seen that we have a different bassist with us. His name is Daniel Ehramjian (if you can pronounce that right we'll buy you a drink) from the mighty experimental pop band JUNTA (http://www.myspace.com/juntajams) filling in for Andy who is still out with tendonitis. Everyone please wish Andy a speedy recovery. Also, We can’t thank Dan enough for keeping the machine moving, his ability learn this shit quick, and putting up with us which isn’t easy. Here is our favorite pic of him. hehe

 ....

Next Week, we are playing a small private show for Danny Melendez. He’s done video for us and has been one of our biggest supporters over the years so this is our tribute to him on his B-day. Bill: Gutshot, Other Bands TBA, and email us for the address.

 ....

Lastly, We are looking for new management immediately since we are getting ready promote our new album full force in the next few months. Also, we are looking for a designer for a new layout for the website/myspace and possible artwork for the album. If you are interested or could direct us in the right direction for either management or artwork please message us on the myspace or at booking@proteancollective.com

 ....

That’s it for now but we will be on point with the news updates on this blog and on twitter so keep checkin in.

 ....

Happy Halloween, Everyone. I realized that we haven't put up a new blog in forever because the laziness that comes with Twitter being on my phone so here is the promise that we will be posting updates starting Monday on the untitled new album. So till then Have a great and safe Halloween Night.

PS
If you missed the Great Scott show, you will know the rumors about us dressing up as and covering ICP are FALSE, but Dan dressed up as Friday the 13th's Jason and Matt went as V for Vendetta.

Yo Everybody,

We’ve been kinda quite lately in posting updates. Fact is that we’ve been busy working harder then ever preparing for a summer which has already been out of hand.  Here is the news.

-Currently we are writing/demoing new material to be recorded in late August for a next untitled album. Two of the songs were played at our last show at Bill’s Bar (RIP).

-Saturday May 23th @ 11pm we are doing an on-air interview for the BIRN. Call in with the most ridiculous (probably drunken) questions for us and we will be forced to answer them. PLEASE no cursing FCC rules and you will get cut off mid-call (trust me I know *cough*)

Listen here - http://www.thebirn.com/shows/canihazprogzorz

-Sunday, May 24 at 9:00pm: The Battle of the Grahams is going down. Protean Collective and Oilhead are playing together again, and this is Oilhead's first show back with a new singer so come out you will love it.

O’Brien’s - Allston, MA
9pm  21+  $7

W/ WESTGATE, PROTEAN COLLECTIVE, OILHEAD, THE FEW

Also…there will be a Memorial day BBQ after the show 3 Blocks away. Free Booze if you came to show.

-Lastly, We are going on our first DIY Tour at the end of June through July. Go the myspace and check out the shows. BTW we are looking for help in booking DC/Richmond,VA and Philly so if anyone could help us out with those two dates you will be rewarded greatly. It doesn’t matter if it’s a venue, bar, or house party as long we have a crowd we’ll show you a good time.

Thanks for Reading! We hope to chill with you all soon, and always remember to Bring the Ruckus.

Thanks to everyone who has come out the last couple of weeks.

We had an awesome show this weekend at the Middle East to an amazing near-capacity audience. Thanks also to Fluttr Effect, Copal, and Campbell Apartment for making the whole night so much fun.

A week before that we got to have a goodbye show at Awesomeville, which is now gone for the moment- also just an amazing night of music. Both shows are easily some of the most fun we've had, so thank you all.

We'll see you soon, hopefully the 25th at Bill's!

Yeah that's right, our new 3 song EP is officially up. You can listen on our player or download there. We're gonna have hard copies on CD too at shows and random occasions because streaming on myspace makes it sound a little bastardized. It's all recorded at Squid Hell Studio in Boston, we produced and recorded it. Let us know what you think. Personally I'm pretty happy. -Graham

Just got back from a weekend spent at Squid Hell recording some new tracks for a quick 3 song EP we're doing.

It's gonna be sweet.

Still got a bunch more work to do but it's gonna be finished pretty soon, and if we keep up on the same track, I think it'll be pretty awesome.

More details and maybe some session pictures will be coming soon.

We probably aren't doing any shows for a bit so we can finish recording/ write even more material, but our next show we are very excited for:

January 31 at the Middle East Upstairs
w/ Fluttr Effect, Copal, the Campbell Apartment
9 PM
$9 in advance/ $10 at the door.

So get that on your calendars now and don't forget about it!

Hey Everybody,

It's Matt here to break the silence of the lack of updates. You maybe asking yourself "Why the delay?" Was it because I have been busy trying to hunt down M. Night Shyamalan to try get my money back for "The Happening", "The Village" or "Lady in the water" or was it Graham, Steph and Andy taking time off to tour with the Wu-tang clan (come on...everyone was on 8 Diagrams why not Protean). No! none of those are true, but we have good reasons this time (and a few bad ones).

First, I'll give you all the bad so we can end on a good note. Last month, our rehearsal building had some flooding the basement rooms. The flood hit three rooms, and we were one of them. We actually made out lucky only my sampler, a drum machine, a drum pad and a few rugs got hit which sucks but its better then all of us losing everything. Btw MUSICIANS!!! INSURE YOUR GEAR. Above all that was bit more drama that went down afterwards, but it doesn't need to be talked about. Anyway as result of that mess, we are temporally moved into our friend's warehouse, Awesomeville, till we find a new home. Dex MF Ter is our personal Jesus for hooking that up. Thanks once again.

In much better news, musically and personally we've grown tighter as band over the pass months, and with that good energy we are excited to show you all what we've been jamming on and writing. I think you all will be happily surprised with the direction. Hopefully, we will debut some of the new songs at our upcoming shows, but until then you all will just have to wait.

We also finally have live videos up on youtube filmed by Danny of F Nice Records which were recorded at Church last month. One of the songs is "Aardvarks eating babies", an unreleased track that we've only play live and after nearly two years of people asking at shows "Where can I find that song?" here it is so enjoy. The other is an extended version of "Eyes Closed" with a drum solo, jammed out middle, and extended guitar solo. Check em out and leave one.

Here is a list of our confirmed upcoming shows (with more to come)

Cold Metallum
Protean Collective was rejected from the website Encyclopaedia Metallum because the Boston band is "not metal; does not belong"—leading drummer Matt Zappa, on the Collective’s MySpace blog, to blast the "many bands/projects up there that are by no means metal and have shitty riffs" and claimed he could write better "with a guitar, a bottle of fast fret, and my dick." Neat trick. In any case, exposure is always nice but Protean Collective is probably best kept from hair-splitting purists, leaving the technically gifted foursome free to go from grindingly aggressive to pleasantly wavy as they do on their debut Once Mechanical. Imagine a younger, looser version of the ’70s-era King Crimson. Sub Rosa Party, Cousin Larry’s, 1 Elm St., Danbury. 9 p.m. $5. (203) 730-0035, www.myspace.com/subrosaparty.
