Current mood:  energetic
Hello hello!  I know I said that I was going to get better at blogging...and I still intend to do so!  I promise.  But, my computer decided to die the other day, so now as I await the coming of my life-saving software, I spend my afternoon in the library...what better time to blog could you ask for?? Peace and quiet, no guitars to pick up and distract, only the blank screen my mind.  Great.  (And yes if you are in the library talking on the phone, you DO deserve to get mean looks. ok? ok. Glad we got that straightened out.)
So let's see I have so much to update you on.
1. A few weeks ago, Justin and I were SO blessed to have the opportunity to play at the historic Bluebird Cafe here in Nashville.  And let me say that, was an incredible experience.  I know there are people that play there all the time and there's nothin to it, but for us, it was a first and it was certainly a night we will not soon forget.  As gigging musicians/songwriters/singers, we've really recently found that at the stage of the game that we're in, at most places, the people are not reeeaallyyy there to listen to you.  They're there to hang and have a drink.  But the Bluebird is an exception to the rule.  Those people are there to hear MUSIC and I cannot think of a better feeling when you get to the hook of your song and people start cheering...it means they actually HEARD what you just said!  Pretty powerful stuff.  We really really hope to play there again in the near future.  Honestly, a life-changing experience.  So a big shout-out to Pam Belford, and Barbara Cloyd!!!  In addition to that, Michael Peterson came up (if you don't know who is, you've been living under a rock and you need to go check out his music!) and did a song...he sat right next to me!  It was such an honor to be on that stage with him and Pam, and Barbara.  AND an extremely talented guy named Billy Dawson....sooo good...go check him out...NOW!
So yeah, that was the Bluebird.  We still get all giddy inside when we think about it :)
2. Other than that we've been playing a ton at Hotel Indigo, almost weekly which is awesome, and the Commodore.  So we're doing some cool stuff here in Nashvegas!  Writing lots of new stuff too, and getting some studio time at the end of the month!  So many things, so little time
3. Ok. I need like, two seconds to just brag to you about my family.  Only because if you like what I'm doing, you will LOVE what these people are doing.
First, we have my brother, Tim Zim.  He has this band called Zasz.  They just moved to Nashville and I can tell you, they will be making waves. So watch out.  He writes all of this music on his COMPUTER and then gives it to his band members to learn and play.  It's friggin scary.  So go check them out.  www.myspace.com/zaszrevolution.
Second, I have two incredibly talented cousins right here in Nashville. Unrelated to eachother.  Although she doesn't need my help in plugging and getting incredibly famous, if you have not heard of Francesca Battistelli, NOW is the time to go check her out.  Girl is up for 5 Dove awards and is taking the Christian music world by storm.  www.myspace.com/francescabattistelli It's amaazzzinnng!
My other cousin, James Zimmermann is the principal clarinetist in the Nashville Symphony...now if that's not pretty badass, I don't know what is.  (he doesn't have a myspace so you can't hear him tear it up on the clarinet, but trust me.  and then go to a symphony concert)
And fourthly (no, I don't care if that's not a word), is my extremely talented uncle, Buck Brown.  He's where we all get it.  (well not James, no relation there...but still!)  www.myspace.com/buckbrown.  He's an INSANELY talented guitarist and his songwriting is right there with it.  He plays everything on his records and records it all in the studio in his backyard and my friends, he is a force to be reckoned with.  Just read his bio.  Phew. He also makes a mean lamb.
Ok. I just really wanted you to know the cloth that I'm cut from, and I wanted you to love these people (almost) as much as I love them.  I just got to spend Easter with 3 out of 4 of them.  Now that was wonderful
4.  The summer is upon us, school is quickly dwindling to a close for the semester and I couldn't be happier.  This summer is going to include lots of playing, here in Nashville, AND up in PA with the amaaazing Liz Longley! (www.myspace.com/lizlongley ...dooo ittt!!!) So that'll be a blast, and Justin and I will be hittin the pavement here too, writing recording, and playing.  It's going to be great.  I'm also heading back out with School of Rock for a few days at the beginning of May to Sweden!! That is going to be awesome.  Good thing I can still pull of looking like a 16 year old right?  I'll be documenting this adventure by film and will post video blogs!  It'll be rad.
5. I guess that's all. If you've made it this far, you deserve an award.
Justin and I will have our Myspace up and running VERY soon so yall better keep checkin back and friend us when it is!
Til next time,
SZ

So maybe this is delayed, but Happy New Year!  We're almost 3 weeks into '09 now but it's already been pretty sweet!  2008 went out with a bang, definitely a great year.  Got to spend Christmas with my family in our new house in North Carolina which was wonderful, and different spending 20 Christmas's in good old Downingtown, PA. But none-the-less, it proved to me the theory that home really is where your feet are, and I felt just as much at home there as I ever did.  But the holiday was short and sweet, as the day after Christmas I was headed up to New York to travel with the Paul Green School of Rock Music All-stars as one of their music directors.  This my friends, was an experience of a lifetime.
I grew up with School of Rock.  If it weren't for Paul and the school, there's no way on earth I'd be playing today, let alone writing this blog.  I've been able to put on hundreds of shows with them, get free guitars, tour with Jon Anderson from "Yes", it has just been such an incredible experience.  So when Paul asked me to join the tour as a music director, I couldn't have been more excited.  To guide these kids and to see them have th esame opportunities and feelings that I did was amazing. Watching them put on crazy awesome shows and getting to feel a part of that wa sjust too cool.  If you have not had the chance to check out the PGSORM, DO IT! You won't regret it.  They're incredible kids with incredible talents and I have no doubt that they will all become successes in whatever they want to do.  So that was the six days following Christmas.  Started in NYC, hit Vermont, Boston, Connecticut, Philly and ended at Asbury Park, NJ on New Year's Eve with the other two All-star teams...also where I much later found out why they call Tequila "Ta Kill Ya"! Being 21 isn't all its cracked up to be...
So that ended 2008, 2009 got off to a good start, SOLD OUT Chaplin's the Music Cafe with Liz Longley (www.myspace.com/lizlongley), and now here we are, back in Nashville, 2009, 3 days into the new semester (gotta do what I gotta do right?) and watching a light, fluffy snow fall out my window. My favorite kind of winter days.
Now with 2009, there are lots of new updates for you!
Numero uno: shows! If you're in Nashville, I've got some more writer's rounds coming up in the near future...February 14th at the Commodore Grille on West End, and March 24th at the historic Bluebird!  There will be more dispersed in there I'm sure, and I'll keep you all posted.
Numero dos: New projects! So in between my solo career and sharing the stage with Liz Longley, I've got another duo in the works with the amazingly talented, very good friend of mine, Justin Davis (who does not have a Myspace yet, but just watch out...KILLER guitar player and singer!) We've been writing and had our first show together in Philly over the break, and we can't wait to get things moving...so keep an eye out for that!  Hoping to lay some tracks down in the near future. But WE NEED YOUR HELP! We're looking for a name for our duo!  So any suggestions, leave em on my blog on on my wall!

I thought there was a Numero Tres, but it seems that there isn't. So with that said, everyone enjoy this snowy Nashville day, and leave some love and I'll get back to ya!

Current mood:  cold

Sometimes I really enjoy the rain.  On days like today, I do not.  I look like I just stuck my finger in a socket.  If you have curly hair, you know the feelng…you just hope no one is looking at you thinking “ever heard of a hat?”.  So that’s what today is, a rainy December afternoon, my feet are cold and wet, my hair is frizzy, and it’s great!

I’ll tell you why it’s actually great, though....

Check, check, 123 is this thing still on? Wow, it's been quite some time. How are you all? Hope the beginning of fall has gotten off to a good start. I love fall...possibly my favorite time of year...anyway, I digress. It's been so long!! Life is good. I've been extremely busy with school, but it has been great. I find that the busier I am, the more I get done the things I really want to do. When I'm not busy, I get lazy....not good! So this has been great. Tomorrow is the last of my 4-hour-Monday night Intro to the Old Testament class...phew! Back to normal life again. Other than school, I've been doing a lot of writing, playing, running, and not much sleeping! But I just wanted to let you all know that I've posted a rough version of a new song on here, and I'd love your feedback. There's more to come, and I'll post a good, long, healthy blog once I don't have hundreds of pages of reading to do a week!! Talk soon, SZ

Wow so my blogs needed some pretty intense cleaning up.  But I figured it was a good time for an update...

So I've been playing tons of shows with the fabulous Liz Longley recently, and we've got many more to come in the Philly/Jersey (and one Boston) area which is awesome.  Last week we played Acoustic Long Island up in St. James New York at the beautiful Deepwells Mansion.  A good portion of the show is up in audio at www.acousticlongisland.com, so definitely check that out.  Actually while you're there, just subscribe to the podcast.  They play tons of really great music and really talented artists come through there.  So that's what's going on there.  Finished up my first year at Belmont, (A in math baby!), been writing and playing a lot, gearing up for my solo set at Triumph Brewing in Philly, which is going to be an awesome show, Jeep Rosenberg, then me, and Liz and I will do some stuff, and then Liz...how cool??  I know I know, Wednesday night, but I mean come on how often do I go solo right? So that's that.

Moral to the blog, go check out acousticlongisland.com and let me know what you think!!!

Peace
