…probably not... ..
Well, it’s 2009. Who saw that coming? Everyone, I guess.
Musically, last year did not finish well, Rushbo-ites. Both The Valuable Fools and Electric Shed had appallingly attended Yuletide gigs, causing yours truly to wipe the MS page in a fit of pique. ‘Why bother?’ thought I. I hadn’t felt so negative towards my own playing for years – ever since an equally sparsely attended gig by a band I was in called Diabolo Go. (It was the 90’s…things were different then). I remember looking at all my neatly stacked gear and wondering if the proceeds of selling it all would buy me a decent motorbike, with which I could kill myself. Or drive to Tamworth, or wherever bikers go.
This year has started in a much more positive light – my new project, the Garage Rock powertrio The Ultraphonics managed to cram a years worth of activity into three weeks thanks to the over active imagination of Drummer/Svengali Zinc Alloy. Yep, it’s not his real name. Our debut gig, after a mere three rehearsals was absolutely goddamn storming. People danced! Sorry, people WHO WE DIDN’T KNOW danced. And I loved it. I also got to sing lead on half the set. Well, sing is maybe too grand a word for what I do, but I had a ball anyway. Gigs are booked and a plan has been hatched. Watch this space.
Now all I need to do is kick The Fools and The Shed into shape…
Until the next time, Rushbolians
