Hi, I hope the year so far has been treating everyone well.
The upcoming Dancing With The Stars 9th season should be exciting. It’s great to be part of something that’s so well done and to play with such an amazing live band. We got a little more camera time in season 8 due to a great new set design - the band was pretty happy about that. Aside from getting my fingers and brain ready I’m wondering like everyone else if Paula Abdul of American Idol fame will be part of Dancing With The Stars - should be good for ratings. Her commute would certainly be short since American Idol and Dancing With The Stars film in the same building on adjacent stages at CBS in Los Angeles.
We do 2 seasons in 1 year so I’ve been busy trying to get other things done in between. So far it’s been pretty productive. In May it was an honor to perform at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with my band of Paul Cartwright, Patrice Rushen, Keith Jones and Cristiano Novelli. Some of the other notable gigs included the Jimmy Kimmel Show accompanying Jewel, and a jazz concert in Vladivostok, Russia which was very interesting and deserves attention in another blog.
So in the name of good ratings and meaningful employment please watch the show in September and please buy my CDs. :-)

This version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is my arrangement of the tune. I arranged it for the country singer Jewel, performing on "Dancing with the Stars" last season. It was featured on Jimmy Kimmel live last night. I'm there in the background playing away...

Happy new year to everybody - of course! Lots of love, joy and happiness.
So, did I mention that my Christmas CD went into digital distribution JUST in time AND received a really sweet review on Amazon.com from a dear friend and long time listener.
Otherwise, Gig I - IV last week were quite an experience! It started off with the Wednesday at Red White and Bluezz, which went smoothly, then suddenly AND already reached a climax at Genghis Cohen late night in L.A. on Thursday. No ballads, no minuet - the crowd was really into the groove and we really had fun: David, Keith, Paul and I.
The band then smoothly dipped into the Friday, swopping down slightly in concentration but not in passion but then sped up to another climax on Saturday! With Karen Briggs on violin and my dear friend and genius bass player Keith Jones played until he had bloody fingers.
What a week! The CD sales were a blast - exactly what a musician needs in this delicate economy. So indeed, my new CD Inventions is being received quite well. I have also just heard back from some international jazz festivals who would like to book the band. We'll have to see whether we can fit it in this or next year - the Caribbean would be nice...

I recorded a Christmas CD in 1999 - now obviously almost ten years ago - and have decided to re-release it in digital form.
It is now available on Amazon. Just go to: http://www.amazon.com/tis-the-Season/dp/B001LRCXRE/ref=pd_rhf_p_img_1
'Tis the Season' is simply me playing beautiful songs like 'The First Noel' or 'Silent Night' on my guitar.
You can also listen to all of the tunes on last.fm - just go to: http://www.last.fm/music/Greg+Por%C3%A9e/Tis+The+Season

Current mood: cheerful
Well it's Emmy time tomorrow and I've had the good fortune to land a sideline spot with Josh Groban and four old friends on tomorrow night's show. Josh is performing a very clever medley of popular TV show themes arranged by Greg Phillinganes, the show's musical director. Greg is also on stage conducting and playing keyboards along with:
Rickey Minor on bass, American Idol's musical director and truly the busiest conductor in L.A.
Michael Bearden, keyboardist with such artists as Madonna, Herbie Hancock, Jennifer Lopez etc.
John Robinson the world famous studio drummer
Greg Porée, yours truly on guitar.
We started rehearsing and blocking yesterday, so Friday night, we'll be doing the same this evening and tomorrow Sunday is the real thing. This is great fun for me, it's absolutely a treat to share a stage with such an amazing array of talented people - well worth watching!!!

Sounding the Hills with Jazz by Kim (contributor), November 1, 2007
A musical retreat awaits seekers on a Jazz Journey at the "Jazz at the A Frame" high in the Hills of Hollywood, CA.
The rejuvenating getaway highlighted Greg Poree, a versatile and moving Guitarist, Patrice Rushen - an incredibly innovative Pianist, Paul Cartwright - Jazz Violinist, David Leach - Percussionist, and Kenny Wild - Bassist.
The musicans refreshed as well as set ablaze our spirits with splendid selections of Straight Ahead, mixed in Brazilian, then added acoustic flavors, brushed with the Blues and a classical piece turned on its revolutionary head with a jazz groove. "Bach Menuett au Poree". The living room was filled with nodding approvers.
The spirit and harmony between the musicans was one of complete unity as they communicated with their instruments, bodies, souls, and wooed the audience in the magic.
One could not escape the feeling of elation, excitement, and oneness as we were basking in Jazz.
Our hearts beat rhtymically with the quintet on "Lullaby at Birdland" and "My Favorite Things". We were serenaded on "Autumn Leaves". But it was Greg's lovely and convincing tribute to his wife that we fell head over heels in love "Phoneix Drive". His beautiful arrangement could make anyone blush.
Patrice Rushen's passion and roared as well as lulled the entire audience to the brink of euphoria.
Paul Cartwright, Jazz Violinist was nothing short of superb drawing ooohs, ahhhs, smiles, and loads of applause after each stunning solo. Where...did you find some of those chords???
David Leach, on percussion took us on a Jazz excursion that left the planet with an embodiment of rhythm like no other. Whether accompanying or on his own solo, he continued to take you to a higher place.
Kenny Wild's bass soared along in perfect time and accented every song. He was nothing short of spectacular in his approach to standards and new pieces such as "Bring It On", "Mind Set", and "Fresh Air" by Greg Poree.
