Fuck a Duck...

Well it's been sometime now since a little update from Nor Nor land. I was concentrating on making the tour videos seen here as well as making new nor-tunes with my fellow Norris' (that you can hear here in the upcoming months) that the news just kept piling up and now im going to just let er fly.

Tour was awesome and we want to take a moment to thank all the amazing people we met along the way who went out of their way to help us out. All we needed here and there was a floor to crash on, but there are some amazingly generous people and bands and promoters across Canada who hooked us up with much more than that so THANK YOU! Also Im glad everyone has been enjoying the videos I've thrown together. Its hilarious when people all across Canada have seen some of the shit we have been up to and tell us how much of a kick they get out of it. So thanks for watching and stay tuned!

We have started writing and once again, this music sounds quite a bit different than what we have touched on before. We are all focused on this music and really concentrating on creating songs that we are 100% happy with. The axe-men have added a few strings to our guitars and the shit we are coming up with isn't really something I have heard before. There is a fuckload you can do with an 8-string! The ideas are flowing like red wine (which is rare in our case) and with the 2 new members it's really a whole new ball game for the rest of us who are used to taking a while to get things done. We will let you know when you can check out the new shit...you may need a change of underoos.

ANNND for the last little while we have been working on getting BONE CRUSHER out to everyone across the country. Finally our re-released EP on Feast or Famine records has distribution across the country courtesy of Sonic Unyon!!! Its pretty awesome to have the respect and support of a Canadian Label that has been doing it for almost 15 years like Sonic has. You can pick up our EP ALL ACROSS CANADA in stores now. We gave the old version away for months in the winter, so show us some love and go grab the re-mastered version from stores or itunes. Its all good baby.

If you don't own Bone Crusher yet, here is ANOTHER review to get you in the loop:

Norris
Bone Crusher
Grade: A
"This Canadian metal outfit sports energetic and technical instrumentation.. fronted by growls and shrieks in the likes of Heavy Heavy Low and Duck Duck Goose. Bone Crusher begins with "Epic Failure", an in-your-face track that is followed by the insane title track, "Bone Crusher". The music of Norris is all over the place, wild, and pulse pounding. This EP is packed with raw energy and anguish. Even the keys found in "The Dirge" are brooding. Whatever the track, metal fans are likely to find something they love about Norris. Bone Crusher is as impressive as it is crazy, start to finish."

So, we are in the library in the quaint little town of exeter where we are enjoying 8 ham samwiches a day at curts grammas house (BIG UPS TO GRANNY C) before we head out to a surrounding area in southern ontario each night where we are playing/slaying/laying waste/failing.

We headed out on tour last Tuesday, and it has been a hilarious ride since then. Mad props to the peeps in Toronto, nothing but Hate to St.Thomas, and a "we'll be back soon" to the fine people in Sarnia where our set was cut short cause of some rowdy fucks and the fact that we were too loud for the trinity lounge. We will guide you to our sewege enhanced set at the Dave & Chuck show shortly...get your iPods ready for this soon-to-be classic.

NORRIS took some time to get ready for this madness in the tbay earlier this month, which you can check out on our channel NORRIS VIDEO LAND or right here:

These little gems will be popping up weekly. Im throwing one together right now for the 1st week of tour that will be up as soon as I can stop laughing/crying/eating turkey sammiches.

This week we look forward to hooking up with all the Haters in Guelph, Burlington, Windsor, Niagra Falls and in Ajax, where we are meeting the dudes in Man WIth Target for their FINAL SHOW. Its sad that those dudes broke up right around the time we kicked the tour off, but it will be great to see them one last time.

So check out the vids, stay up to date on the ol twit-skis (thats right, we took the plunge like all the other suckers) at NORRIS TWITTER LAND, and make sure to get your rumps out to the shows comin up where Norris will teach you how to talk smack to your Grandpa and fail like a champ.

Hey all you possibly beautiful but probably hideous people out there in internet land...

So, as you may or may not know, we added a sweet guitarist to our lineup over the winter holidays, but we never really had an opportunity to introduce him to you.

Until now.

Take a look at how the man named 'Skills' came to be in this metal monstrosity known as Norris. Can he pull off the Sweeps? What about the Licks? Are the Riffs intact? What about his moustache?

The answers to all these questions are in this video.....

As you can see, new tour dates for this summer are popping up all the time, so stay tuned for that, and if you live in Canada and you need a little Nor Nor in your life, drop us a line and let us know.

Also, if you live in mid-Canada/B.C. please check out the Auditor General @ www.myspace.com/theauditorgeneral, which is Norris' alter ego. They/We are on tour right now bringing some lovely sing-along songs to the masses, and would appreciate your eyes and ears and beers and cheers.

We have been getting a LOT of questions about the xHATE EDGEx slogan on our merchandise. Almost everyday I go to our inbox and someone is pissed off, confused, or happy about our slogan, so I thought I'd make a blog about it to clear up the confusion.

NORRIS does not hate the straight edge mentality, nor do we endorse it. Our music is very aggressive and 'Hate-Filled', so we thought HATE EDGE would be a fitting/amusing tag for our movement. After having many good laughs over it, we threw it on a shirt and it sold like hot cakes...

Then kids started telling us that there are HATE EDGE groups in the United States. Some are neo-nazi groups (who should be beaten to a pulp) and some are militant bastards that beat up dudes like us who smoke and drink. All of this seems to be going on in Utah, so we can't wait to get down there and play with the band GAZA (who are from Utah...check em out) and get stomped. And then there are those people who think Hate Edge means we hate the straight edge movement.

So if you are confused about that shit, I hope this clears it up. Here is what Curtis Norris had to say after someone was all like "Don't you like Converge? Why do you hate Edgers?":

"I grew up in the southern Ontario straight edge hardcore scene, where I've seen converge play often. I really respect what straight edge did for me, and I'm glad that I didn't do any mind-altering things until I was 18. 18 is right around the time when kids start thinking for themselves, and realizing they can have a few drinks and joints without destroying their minds. Straight Edge is a good system to protect young undeveloped minds, which drugs can quickly deteriorate. We are all aware of the militant straight edge movement titled "hate edge", but we are just really hateful and think its funny. None of us are straight edge, and we all live our lives on a day to day basis."

So if that doesn't clear it up, then come see us on tour and lets have a drink over it.

Enough of that, let's get back to the music. What's up with the Nor? Well, we have our album being re-mastered as we speak, and we think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with the new sound. We also added some aural treats to it that weren't there before, so stay tuned. We will be properly releasing it on a brand new label, and we will have distro across Canada so that everyone can pick it up.

We will be posting the WHOLE THING on myspace when it is ready and we will have a new pretty layout for your eyes to enjoy. So there.

Earlier this month we broke in our new guitarist, Sean Von Skilstadt. We wrote some new earth shattering tunes and played our 1st show of 2009. And it was more fun than I think we have ever had as a band.

We will be touring ALL of Canada in May/June 2009, (except the east...we'll see you in November), so If you want to see us in your city, let us know.

More to come......

We have been getting a bunch of reviews for our E.P. Bone Crusher so we decided to make this blog with all of the reviews/media for Norris in it, so you can check out what people are saying. Here is what people are saying so far:

"Like the Spanish Inquisition, you never can expect what comes next from Thunder Bay's Norris. On their new EP Bonecrusher, they've sought to capture mathcore, grind, screamo, prog and doom and force it haphazardly into a blender. Take a drink of standout "King George The Third Would Be Turning In His Grave". Time signatures shift constantly, pinch harmonics punctuate frantic guitar runs. This is all layered as if sweet chocolate icing over top of the main rhythmic cake of churning groove riffs and howler-monkey proclamations. Musically and lyrically, it all sounds almost out of control, emotionally on the edge of falling apart – yet they rally and reassemble, again punching out grooves on point and on time."

Erik Lindholm
Vol. 5 - #3 Issue 27 - April/May 2009

"What we have hear is the second EP from Thunder Bay based noisemongers Norris. The first EP showcased a very strong Dillinger Escape Plan influence but Bone Crusher shows the band moving away from that and fusing elements of rock into the sound for added effect. The Dillinger influence is still here but there is no denying that the band has morphed into a much more original beast with this album."

The band starts off full force with "Epic Failure". Slow paced dirges mix with rapid fire guitar runs to create a sound that is technical yet instantly memorable. The rock inspired riffs are just extra icing on the cake as are the odd time signatures thrown in throughout the song. "King George The Third Would Be Turning In His Grave" shows that the band has an excellent grasp on tempo changes and like "Epic Failure" also utilizes slower dirge riffs to great lengths. In fact I was expecting much more speed from the band but was really surprised by the amount of dirges and atmosphere the band manages to create in a style known for just straight ahead speed and flurries of notes. Take for instance the appropriately titled "The Dirge". The song is very slow with crushing riffs and an excellent use of dissonance. It shows a slight post-hardcore feel being added as well."

"This is an excellent 5 song EP from a band that shouldn't have had to release it themselves to be perfectly honest. The band has a grasp on songwriting that bands that have been doing it for years haven't mastered and are just as tight as any of the bigger bands playing similar styles. If you are a fan of noisy yet structured chaos with guitar acrobatics then you definitely need to check out Norris."

"Norris is back with a new heavy-as-hell release called, Bone Crusher. Improving on their 2005 EP Ladies And Gentlemen, We Regret To Inform You That Our Worldwide Anthem Is An Explosion. The band has constructed an all out aural assault. A mixture of ravenous, grinding double bass drumming alongside a massive wall of guitars and highlighted by unearthly throat ripping vocals, Bone Crusher is an extreme metal heads dream".

"Throughout the disc, surprises await the listener around every corner. For example, the track, "King George The Third Would Be Turning In His Grave" begins as a hard and heavy and in your face tune but midway through unexpectedly switches gears and becomes something a lot mellower incorporating clean vocals and an unexpected, albeit short, but welcome reprieve from the brutality. A minute or so later the attack begins once again."

"Similar in style to bands such as Light Yourself On Fire and Converge, this disc is intense and each song has an inexorable fury and propulsive momentum that drives it towards a brief foray into chaos. The song that I feel is the best on this disc is "The Dirge". This tune contains some very good guitar work and riffs and the drumming is quite unreal. Even though the tracks are good, there is very little variety on the disc, and this type of music is certainly nothing new. However, I do believe that fans of extreme music and or the aforementioned bands will really dig Bone Crusher and what the guys in Norris have done."

Norris offers an admirable metal effort with Bone Crusher, comprised of interesting song structure and what I would call considerate arrangement. All the instruments are well represented, where a lot of metal can get overpowered with gratuitous drums or over-driven guitars. Also, the songs aren’t overly long. This genre seems to be fascinated with what I’m sure they consider to be epics; running times that seem more self-indulgent than poignant. The singing is snarly and spit-filled, but leans towards comical with, on one end, some over-the-top squeals and on the other, backing vocal interjections so plain they might have been recorded during a nap. Each of the songs has plenty of start-stops and different time signatures, often punctuated with flurries of high end notes from very clear guitars. There is a lot here to enjoy, but one can be content just soaking in the juices flying off the strings of these guitars. Overall a well packaged, well produced set."

Rating: 4/5

"After a year and half long break, Norris from Canada decided to join forces again to give us a follow up to their debut EP, a release that was able to collect interest and positive feedback by media and audiences. The new EP continues what was already expressed and pushes to further the original blend of death metal, grind and post-core: inspired by the same expressive need that led the band during last period to find new hybrid languages, Norris mixes together different inputs to produce strong and interesting song writing. Technical skills and hardcore aggressive assaults are the background for polyhedric yet pain-filled vocals. In Norris' sonic universe it's quite hard to be described in terms of comparison, especially if you consider that, with just a pair of EPs released, so far the band demonstrates a strong eclectic personality and is driven by the will to create their own sound. Obviously, the chosen way is not an easy one, but the five tracks on the EP demonstrate without doubts that the path is the right one and that the Bone Crusher creators have the needed skills. What they need now is to continue without further breaks, and to work on refining their language. Moreover, if you decide to tackle such an ambitious challenge, tenacity and diehard attitude are not just an added value. At this point, we are very curious to check their next steps."

Rating: 3/5

"For all the hardcore fans in the audience I bring to you Norris, hailing from Thunder Bay, Ontario, this band is worth a listen. Appealing to those who love bands such as Cursed, Terror, Botch, Black Dahlia Murder and The End, the band's latest EP titled Bone Crusher will make you shit your pants. Infused with tons of driving double kick, random guitar solos, and sporadic tempo changes the guys stay tight and spit out delicious melodics through their guitars the entire disc through. What sets them apart from other bands of this style is the vocals. The low inaudible growl lack of singing might be enough to make some cringe, but the unique tone and style immediately grows on you becoming music to your ears, literally."

Hello all you little Norrisorrises. We hope you have been keeping well. We got some big changes to talk about, so lets get down to it. First thing's first:

It is with great sadness that we announce Richard Norris (Leblanc) has left us. It's not easy being in a band that is spread all over the country, it's not easy to tour all the time and give up on stability, and it's tough to be in several bands at the same time and really give 100% to each of them. We wish ol'Richy success in whatever projects he takes on next, and great financial gain from selling weird shit he finds in the junk on e-bay.

On a positive note, we would like to welcome our longtime friend/producer Sean Skillen (from www.seanskillen.com)
Skillz! This is the man who will be taking on the family name as second guitarist. We look forward to the new dynamic this will bring to the Norris sound, as well as the new areas of heavy music that we can explore. This new blood is something we know we need to take Norris to the next level, so welcome aboard Skillz!

Next: we had to drop out of our tour with the Fitzpatrick Incident this November that was going to destroy the east coast. It wouldn't be right to play for the lovely people of the east without our 2 guitar attack, and even though we were going to go through with it, we decided that we will regroup and slay Canada several times in 2009. This will give us time to re-mix and re-master our EP 'BoneCrusher' and re-release it. Things were a little rushed this summer, so now we have a chance to make it sound exactly the way we want it to sound, and get it out there to all you good people!

So, we will be re-grouping in early 2009 and getting to work making Norris an even stronger beast then before. 'Til then, check out our new video up, and check out Jamie Norris' new songs popping up from his solo work here:  http://www.myspace.com/theauditorgeneral

What a tour! We contemplated re-naming it the 2000 empty's tour (we like social beverages and didn't hold back on this one). We saw kids get punched out as well as punch the floor. There was much gravy, and some tasty road grillin'. There were some spin kicks, and there were some serious power stances:
Photobucket

The booze filled shenanigans and slaying of scene kids wasn't all that went down though... but overall this was a tour to be remembered.

After eating, breathing and sleeping Norris for 2 months straight, it's nice to be back in the TBay and still in one piece. We came together this summer, wrote and recorded our second E.P. and then hit the road almost immediately with our good friends in Faceless Hulk (www.myspace.com/facelesshulksucks).
We took the show across the country, made some amazing friends and melted some really good looking faces. Lets recap:

Sioux Lookout, On.: Sure we swam at the beach during the day, but at night if there was anyone who wasn't attending the fair that came through town, they got their asses handed to them.

Winnipeg, Mb.: We rolled in and sat around in our luxury hotel for 9 hours getting pissed up on Molson Dry. Played to one person at the Zoo at 1am, our toilet in our room decided it rather be a bidet, and Jamie got hit on by a skank. Fail. I hate that city.

Saskatoon, Sk.: Rocked with our good friends in Sparky who had a 'pay $10 and drink all you can in 2 hours' night at the pub before the show. The 2 married guys in Faceless Hulk got in a domestic dispute...I think someone got punched in the teeth? Ah well. Thats whats happens when you're in love with each other! Fuck the praries.

Camrose, Ab.: Finally, some love. Showed up and grilled, played some frisbee and kicked it with our buds in Brother VooDoo. Some girls got scared and said that Faceless Hulk was 'too ferocious'. Hahaha! We tore the shit out of that place and got on to Calgary.

Calgary, Ab.: We met up with what must be the largest amount of TBay peeps outside of TBay. Ended up staying with our awesome friend Mason Grant who has a great band by the name of Wives Tale. He shot a video for our song Bone Crusher which will be up soon. We played to a hall full of kids who ripped it up, and then we partied and snag silly love songs into the early morning.

Edmonton, Ab.: Odd show. Played to a straight edge crowd. Now, we support everyone's decision to live his or hers life in whatever way they would like, but please, when we are playing music for you, don't judge us cause we like whiskey and weed. Either way we ripped it up and got the fuck out of there. Some kid said Faceless sounded like Limp Bizkit....what? Were you even listening? You know somethings whack when you show up and the local band asks to use all your gear, and then afterwards sits outside badmouthing your tunes. Not the worst show, but not the best.

Prince George, Bc.: AFter waking up with a hangover and barfing all over the trans-Canada highway, I looked up and saw this:
mountain
Finally made it to beautiful British Columbia, the loveliest province in Canada. We played that night in Prince George, and it was like being right at home. We rocked Thrash Fest with our buds in Throat Kick. There was a Keg in the parking lot, the singer of a grindcore band got punched out 10 minutes before going onstage, and the cops came 4 or 5 times. Amazing. We played PG back in 2005, and at that show a kid broke his arm in our mosh pit. Well, looks like kids didn't forget about us:
Photobucket
Photobucket
I got nocturnal on that shit:
Photobucket

Vancouver, B.C.: Faceless' breaks failed them on our ride to Vancouver, so luckily we rolled right into a Canadian Tire. $450 later and we were on the road. We showed u and rocked the Cobalt at around 11:30pm, and then stayed with our bro Sean Skillen at his new pad. Sean Recorded our new EP, so it was good to see him on the other side of the country and tear it up with him.
We ended up having an off day and seeing an amazing band called Battles. After that, we dropped some acid, got drunk and puked all over Vancouver. Our merch guy Piers puked on a limosine door handle, and we ran up and down the street puking while a bum with a guitar sang a song about us puking as we headbanged to his rhythm and puked in time. Fuck yeah Van City.

Kelowna, B.C.: This was the most beautiful town of the tour. We ripped it up with our new friends in the Murderous and it was fucking awesome. They packed the joint and tore it to pieces, and then we partied all night. Lots of love to Kelowna. We will be back.

Kamloops, B.C.: This was funny. A band called Gods Empty Promise put on this show at a sports bar with 5 squash courts in it and a poker game taking place. Please, if you are going to do a show in Kamloops go with Stone Goat productions. The singer from Gods Empty Promise showed up (everything was ready to go), decided that since only a few people were there it wasn't worth it, and bailed on us. What an egotistical wiener boy. After that, we were informed that the show was cancelled, but we said fuck it, we are playing anyway. So, play we did. If you want to know what it was like, please watch the video for the Gorgeous' "Shy Guys". It was hilarious when the elderly were requesting that Faceless play some Roy Orbison as they launched into "Who Says Weed Slows You Down?".

After that we got to stay at a friends house and we were introduced to Hevy D's Popcorn. Mad props to that delicious, kettle cooked treat. Check it out at www.hevyd.ca - it was delicious.

After that we were driving to Calgary and our tire blew. I decided to give Curtis some roadside assistance: Photobucket

The we hit Calgary again. More of the same...lots of fucking fun. Huge props to Treeburning and Vern's. We rocked that place to the ground.

Lethbridge, Ab.: The haircuts were out in full effect, as we teamed up with Jay and the Lovebirds at the Lethbridge Boys & Girls club. We quickly converted the pop punk kids who were there for a night of easy listening into floor punching freaks who tore the place a new asshole. We loved them, they loved us, and we will be back to Lethbridge again in the future.

Saskatoon, Sk.: This time we fared a bit better. Good amount of kids for a Monday night, and we played with some really awesome local bands. It's really refreshing to see some awesome local talent after playing that many shows, and Saskatoon has it in spades.
After the show we stayed at Sparkys ranch again, and one of the members girlfriends (her name escapes me right now) let us into her home at 2am to smoke and crash. Awesome.

After that it was a 17 hour drive home to Thunder Bay. We decided we hated Winnipeg just too much to go back. It was great to come home and still have some shows to play: we rocked out at Disgraceland, opened up for ORIGIN & CRYPTOPSY (who were mind blowing) and then finished off the tour with our own headlining show at the Black Pirates Pub. Amazing.

So again, a huge thank to all the promoters and bands that helped us make 2000&HATE a success. We have some East Coast plans that are coming up, so if you live in Quebec or on the east coast of this country, you better get ready when we roll through in November and tear it up. There are more big plans coming up, but we will share those with you on a later date.

Now I'm off to practice my powerstance with ol' Justy.

WELL WELL WELL......

After moving form all corners of Canada back to Thunder Bay, Ontario on July 14th, we are pleased to announce that we have some brand new, ass kicking, face melting, Bone Crushing NORRIS to offer everyone. The New EP is called Bone Crusher and for now it will we available exclusively at the shows on our tour and through a pay pal account on our myspace. It will be sold as a digital download that you will have on-line access to, and the download will include the 5 tracks form 'Bone Crusher' as well as all 4 tracks off of our 2005 release 'Ladies and Gentlemen, We Regret to Inform you that Our Worldwide Anthem is an Explosion' as well as lyrics, credits, and a write up on the making of the album. AND it comes as an awesome poster that has art from Greg Dubeau on it. Also for this tour we have some hot new merch designs that you will want to share with all your friends and family. So you too can help us spread the Hate all over Canada.

After the '2000&Hate' tour is over, we will be working with our friend Jim Blakely at Feast or Famine Records to have an official World Wide release.  'Bone Crusher' will be available online on itunes, rhapsody, amazon.ca, napster, downloadpunk.com and more, and you will be able to order it at your local HMV. It will also be available through IndiePool. All these details will be worked out in September and we will keep you notified about it so that you can get your Norris fix no matter where you are at.

We, along with some amazing friends/producers/engineers/home owners, were able to pull together and spend our summer making something we are very proud of and that we truly love, so we hope to see everyone across Canada on this tour. Its gonna be a fucking blast. November we will most likely be getting out to the east for all you fans out thata way.

Our friend Marty from Dougall Media here in TBay documented the making of the album, so we will be getting some studio shots up for everyone to check out and laugh at. Tracking was a stressful, computer killing (we destroyed 3 computers with our hot riffage), cone blowing, beer soaked adventure and we captured it to share with you. So dig it.

Tour starts in a few days and we will be keeping you posted on our tales from the road. Stay tuned and get ready, cause this shit's about to get HEAVY.

A new track will be up on Saturday....

Wellity Wellity, its been 2 years since we have had anything to say, and now the time is here!

Norris has been busy lately. It’s pretty tough to be in a band that is spread across one of the largest land masses in the world, but things are coming along nicely. Richard and Justin have been visiting me in Toronto and we have been hashing out new ideas for our upcoming EP that will be released in August and toured on as much as the Def Leppard album Hysteria (which, coincidentally, is a main source of inspiration for our new goods). The new ideas are bone crushingly heavy... so much so that our merch guy - G-rock - Heard our new song ’Bone Crusher’ and promptly cut his balls off & enrolled in hair styling school.

Curtis has also been contributing riffs from his hut in Prince George, BC. You can check out the crazy ideas he is bringing to the plate in our VIDEO section.....seriously. Give it a look. It will blow your mind.

So, with that said, we are finally going to be bringing the insanity of Norris across the country with our good friends from Thunder Bay, Faceless Hulk. This tour will bring the ugliest Dudes & Riffs from danger bay all over this lovely land, and we hope to see all your lovely faces at the shows. This is something we have wanted to do for a long time, and I’m very excited to show Canada some of Thunder Bays Best. It’s gonna be insane, so make sure to come out and show the love - or better yet, the hate.

One more thing: The Norris track "Human Kindling" Will be appearing on the Skratch Magazine Taste Of Chaos Compilation! We were offered an opportunity to have our music reach all the little scene kids along the west coast of the USA through Skratch Magazine (www.skratchmagazine.com) and one of the guitarists from the new Bon Jovi...a.k.a. Atreyu. Just one more way to spread the Hate into the United States. SO if you have an inbred cousin down there, make sure to tell him while he is singing along to Atreyu’s greatest hits at the 2008 Taste Of Chaos to pick up the Skratch Magazine compilation and try to scream along to some Norris instead.

So, keep it real all ya’ll motha fuckas. See you in the summer time with riffs that’ll blow yo mind.
Fer Serious.
