I'd love to keep the confusion down on what the "Neon Jesus" is and why my upcoming albumn is called "loosing faith in the Neon Jesus".  Below is my attempt at putting into words what it means to me.  This statement will be included in my albumn within the cd sleeve for all to read.. but here's a special "sneek preview" as we await the release of the disc.

Losing faith in the neon jesus….

For 10 years or so I've sought after something / someOne to believe in.  Seems like my soul has felt every emotion possible. I've encountered fear, faith, joy, pain, growth, death, worship and even hatred.  When my search begin I had no expectations,  I only  assumed that all I knew about God was true. I soon discovered that just because someone says this or that is truth, is not reason enough to adapt my beliefs to their way of thinking.  Like any wise soul, I've had to find out on my own.  The "neon jesus" is how I refer to that which I've turned away from.  Everyday I seek freedom from the way of life that owned me for years.  The "neon jesus" is the pop-culture view of Christ, God, and the church that has lessened his power, personal quality, and his presence.  Whether you've encountered this "jesus" on a flannel-graph board, a vegetable video, or a TV broad cast, he's not very flattering. I refuse to  chase him anymore. I desire a personal relationship with a true Son of God. I pursue to understand the workings of His Spirit. I long to know the depths of God's love for me.  I don't need a jesus that brings monetary gain or warm & fuzzy feelings any longer.  The pop-culture, "neon jesus" is portrayed by SNL, molded into satirical action figures, praised by your favorite boy band on the MTV Music awards and preached about on TBN.  It sickens me thoroughly.

I've written some songs about the way my heart feels about this. Nowhere in the lyrics will your find mention of the "neon jesus", but I hope you see it in the passion that I search for the real deal, this unpopular, up-on-a-cross, dirty-under-His-fingernails, man-of-sorrows, Son of God.  Don't be fooled…. "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (jeremiah 29.13 niv)
