October 29, 2009, Federal Way, Wash.—99 Bottles is the “Best Beer Store in Western Washington” according to KING 5 TV’s Evening Magazine 2009 consumer poll results. The “Best of Western Washington” is a year-round online guide, where consumers can give feedback on local businesses, and voting for “The Best” takes place just six weeks of each year. This year’s balloting ended Sunday, October 11. More than 160 consumers posted word-of-mouth reviews about Federal Way’s premiere beer store, 99 Bottles, on this online guide, with hundreds casting their vote for the family owned business.
Husband and wife team, Craig and Tiffany Adamowski, opened the business in January 2007. Their concept is similar to a wine store, but without the focus on the grape—99 Bottles is all about beer!
“Through 99 Bottles, we have been able to share our passion for good beer with the local community, and it’s wonderful to have our customers recognize us for this effort,” said Tiffany, co-owner and the store’s ‘beer mom’. In celebration of the win, and to thank the beer store’s customers, she says, “Forget the morning coffee. We’ll be celebrating with Coffee Beer & Donuts on Saturday, November 7.”
99 Bottles invites all, 21 years and older, to celebrate 99 Bottle’s win of “Best Beer Store in Western Washington” on November 7, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Four coffee beers will be poured. The cost is just $2.50, with valid ID, to partake in the samples and have a donut; 99 Bottles Club Members pay just $1.

dish'n beer Beer with stuffed mushrooms In the kitchen on Sunday, April 12thCheese & Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms This is my go-to party hors d'ouvre. They're so popular that I have to double the batch ...setting aside a dozen to reheat as snacks. The remaining are lined in rows on a party tray, with a couple sprigs of rosemary for presentation, covered securely in tin foil to aid in warmth retention on their journey to the party. Once at the party, they're laid out in the appetizer spread.
Now the journey...to identify what beer(s) to pair with these stuffed delights...
According to beer & food sources, there are several beer styles that pair well with either "seafood" or "monterey jack" cheese. However, the earthiness of the mushrooms was throwing me a wild card as not many sources delved into the specific topic of pairing mushrooms with beer.
The styles to consider: • Dortmunder• Munich Helles Lager• Kölsch• Hefeweizen• Saison• Belgian Strong Pale AleI chose the following beers, one for each style: Baltika #7, Der Hirschbrau Neuwansteiner, Hale's Kolsch, Erdinger Hefeweizen, Ommegang Hennepin, and Duvel. Blind tasting: pairing six unlabeled samples with stuffed mushroomsEach beer was sampled with the stuffed mushroom. Immediately we eliminated the two Belgian styles...saison and strong pale ale. Whether it be the sweetness or yeastiness, or some other factor at play, both Belgians disagreed with the dish.
Dortmunder and Kölsch both paired well with the stuffed mushrooms. Kölsch was best as the earthiness of the mushroom, as well as the shrimp and cheese mixture, interacted nicely with the beer. We served an American brewed Kölsch from Seattle's Hales Ales. It will be interesting to try this disk again paired with an authentic German beer, such as Reissdorf Kölsch. by Tiffany ©2009 99 Bottles LLC.

-------Original Message------- Subject: RE: 32 new beers! Dish'n Beer! Das Boots! ...and more at 99 Bottles this week. Sent: 19 Apr '09 8:45am
What you are calling Das Boot is called Der Stiefel. Please stop spreading ignorance. Next you will be selling lemons with your Weissbier!
Tony [last name removed]
============================================
Dear Tony, You are correct that the proper German terminology for "das Boot" is "der Stiefel." Likewise, a German-brewed hefeweizen is called a "Weissbier" and the country of Germany is "Deutschland." As the majority 99 Bottles's customers are most familiar with the English language, we strive to use language of cultural familiarity so they can best understand the products we offer. Hence, our choice to refer to "der Stiefel" as "das Boot" in the store's newsletter. While 99 Bottles has received requests from several customers to sell lemons to accompany our German Weissbiers as well as our American Hefeweizens and Pale Wheat Ales, we have elected not to offer lemons for the following reasons:
* I really enjoy lemons and would probably end up slicing them up and snacking on them or tossing into my water that I drink while working at the store. By consuming the lemons, I would, unfortunately, cut into the store's profit margins.
* If I exercised self control and left the lemons alone, I would have to give focus to selling the lemons before they went bad. This is a creates a particular conondrum to choose which beers to market with the lemons, as the majority of wheat beers at 99 Bottles don't require a citrus garnish to bring out additional flavor...in fact, the citrus only proves to dissolve the beer's head more quickly. Best wishes, -Tiffany 99 Bottles
