Liquid Architecture National Sound Art Festival to visit Central Victoria for first time

The ninth annual Liquid Architecture Festival (LA9) will visit Central Victoria for the first time with concerts in Bendigo at the Old Fire Station and in Castlemaine at the ICU in Halford St. From its origins in Melbourne, the festival has spread in recent years to Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Perth and will this year visit regional Victoria for the first time. In Central Victoria the festival will feature 3 major overseas sound artists from France and Germany, as well as artists from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, including Natasha Anderson who was brought up in Bendigo. The festival is supported by funding from /Alliance Francaise/, the /Goethe Institute /and /Sound Travellers/ (Australia Council) and local assistance from theatre group /Punctum/, experimental label /cajid media/, as well as help from experimental film and sound collective /Undue Noise/. Australia's premier national sound-arts festival, Liquid Architecture, celebrates its ninth year with a first-time visit to Central Victoria with an eclectic mix of internationally acclaimed guests and Australian artists. This is an exciting opportunity for Central Victorians to be exposed to current directions of contemporary sound art practices.

*Cedric Peyronnet / toy.bizarre** (France*) focuses on phonography and field recordings. Using the principles of concrete, acousmatic, and electroacoustic music, he often gathers sounds from places he visits for performances. *Marcus Schmickler** (Germany)*, who works in a wide range of contemporary music environments, including a recent release under the banner of Pluramon with Julee Cruise, will present experimental and electronic compositions from his /Altars of Science/ release 2007. Multi-instrumentalist *Andrew Pekler **(Germany),* originally from Uzbekistan via US, is well known for his atmospheric soundscapes, and has been described as " purveyor of reductionist jazz and glitchy electronics", and has releases on many innovative labels including staubgold and kranky. *Natasha Anderson (Melbourne)*. Originally from Bendigo, Natasha creates works using contrabass recorder, electronics and mixed media, rapidly shifting between extreme frequencies, between digital and acoustic sound, and abject and processed gestures, creating for the audience multiple and conflicting points of focus. She has toured extensively overseas. *Tarab* *(Melbourne)* eamon sprod/tarab uses the interplay of field recordings and sounds generated from found objects to explore the possibilities of personal chartings and interactions with the urban environment. *Lawrence English* *(Brisbane)* is a media artist, composer and curator whose work is eclectic and characterises a long-term exploration audio/visual environments, found sound/vision, subtle transformation of public space and sonic art works that exist at the very edge of perception. He has toured extensively overseas. **NAT* **(Melbourne)* Nat is an experimental musician, curator & lecturer in sound art. His current projects include the experimental rock outfit MxR, and Film§coria, a series of soundtracks for appropriated video pieces. Nat has directed Liquid Architecture since its inception in 2000. *Alex White** (Sydney)* From experimental techno and noise in the late 1990's, his work has evolved to more abstracted explorations of sound whilst retaining some recognisable qualities and sensibilities of genre music. Alex also creates video, installation and sound works for gallery settings.
