What's New On The PMN?Malcolm Middleton Formerly one-half of Glaswegian indie band Arab Strap, Malcolm Middleton has been a solo artist well before said band split at the tail end of 2006. Malcolm has produced three darkly beautiful albums: '5:14 fluoxytine seagull alcohol john nicotine' , 'Into the Woods' and 2007's 'A Brighter Beat'. The Mae Shi The Mae Shi don't do things by halves. But before we unleash the album - which will astound, enthral, confuse, excite and blow your mind in equal measures – ' Run to Your Grave ' is the perfect introduction to a band whose influences span pretty much the whole spectrum of musical genres: they cite Ex Models, Deerhoof, Sparks, Brian Eno, Andrew WK, Jay-Z, Abba, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Captain Beefheart, the Motown catalogue, the Slits, Queen diva house, Iron Maiden, Squeeze, '90s trance, XTC, Don Caballero, Missy Elliott, the Minutemen and Detroit Techno (and that's not even all of them). Slow Club Sheffield UK duo Slow Club have been playing music together for barely a year and are about to release their debut album through Moshi this year. The handsome pair, Charles and Becky, are attracting a devoted following with a strong live act – with some going as far to call them the 'Northern White Stripes'. Get Me and You for your podcast now! Grace Potter and the Nocturnals GP & TN combine blues authority, country twang and jam band confidence to form something unique: rock 'n' roll that even your momma will love. Released just last August, the band's third album This Is Somewhere is already turning heads garnering appearances on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America. |

nada surf on the podsafe music networkNada Surf - Lucky - If your familiarity with the band is limited to the memory of their hit 90's Weezer-esque single "Popular," then you've missed out on a band's maturation and transformation from big-label success to independent darling. While the album isn't particularly risk-taking, it is highly listenable and ultra-consistent. "See These Bones" sets the stage for the rest of the album quite nicely, while the memorable "Weightless" is a very welcome revisitation of the band's louder roots with its perfect distorted guitars and tempo changes. All in all, it's another solid album from a really good band that just knows how to write blissfully poppy indie music
