Blacklight won the number one spot in the Alternative Rock channel at OurStage.com yesterday, and is in the music finals. The song has been battling back and forth between first and second place for the last few hours, and could really use your help if you have a few minutes. The grand prize for winning the monthly finals is $5000 cash... which would help us out a lot.

Plus, it would be a nice thing to have Blacklight win. Would you spend a little time this evening judging songs in the finals at OurStage? Besides helping Northern Room, it's a good way to learn about new music. The competition ends at midnight (11pm central) tonight, Sunday Nov 30th.

Dear Friends,

After four years of rehearsing, recording, and performing, Andrew Jonathan (AJ) has decided to resign from Northern Room. With great sadness, therefore, we would like to announce that the November 8th show at Turner Hall Ballroom will be our farewell performance. After that show, Northern Room will be no more.

We would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to buy a CD, see a live show, talk to us afterward, tell a friend about our music, vote for us in an internet contest, or call a radio station to request our songs. That list could go on for another page, as there are countless other ways that you have shown your support and love over the past four years. You have given us strength, encouraged us in the difficult times, and provided the motivation to continue the dream of making music together. We will remember you always.

We would like to end the way a rock band should: on a stage, in a hall filled with screaming fans. So, we invite you to join us at Turner Hall Ballroom on Saturday November 8th to share one last night together, as we celebrate four wonderful years of Northern Room. Tickets are available now. There is an unfortunate side to being an artist.  Being someone that is creative.  The downfall is that we are slaves to our muse.  This means skipping meals, missing the end of movies and typically getting out of bed numerous times at night to finish a song.  When a new song arrives it will typically reel in my head constantly for up to a week.  Good songs demand to be finished immediately while the majority, the bad songs, just linger and then fade out to bad song purgatory.  I don't know why she (muse) works that way, it's unexplainable.  It would be a lot more convenient if we could invite our muse over for a drink when we were ready to dive in to a creative melodic moment.  When we were ready to create that masterpiece.  But, it is not so.  It is painful, emotional and tiring.  It's a full time job keeping track of your muse and respecting it.  There have been many times in my life where I rejected her, told her "not now!" and then the next day I realized I lost a great song.  So, my point, respect those creative moments in your life.  You have no idea how you can change someone's life with something that you created.  Respect the muse...

We have some exciting news, and we need your help! Since March, we have been entering songs in channel competitions at OurStage.com, which is a music discovery/contest site. You might have seen the banner on our MySpace page, which is still showing our 3rd place finish for We're On Fire in the Pop channel for June.

Well... the July channel competitions are over as of 20 minutes ago, and Last Embrace placed 1st in the Electronic/Electro-Pop channel!! Galaxy placed 10 in the CMJ channel. That's very cool, because we now have two more Top 10 finishes.

However, we need your help. For the next 24 hours, until midnight EDT (11pm CDT) on Thursday July 31st, OurStage.com is in the Final Contest phase. All the 1 songs from all 49 channels are competing against each other to find the 1 winner overall. Here's the Finals page:

Greetings again!

I hope everyone's Summer is fairing out to be a lively one.  We have been lucky that we haven't had to cancel any shows yet due to the amount of rain we have seen.  Wisconsin hasn't seen this much downpour in almost 20 years.  The band has been truly blessed this Summer with opening slots for The Bravery, OneRepublic and Dashboard Confessional.  Thank you to everyone that has made it out!

It is with great excitement that I have the honor of informing everyone we will be entering the studio once again next week.  We will be making the trek up to Cannon Falls, Minnesota where Pachyderm Recording Studio sits.  It's a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired 6,000 square foot house and 2,500 square foot world-class studio that has seen Soul Asylum, Nirvana, Live and PJ Harvey.  It also boasts a Neve 8068 recording console (the actual board John Lennon was mixing on the night he died).  After arriving on Wednesday evening , July 23rd, we plan to nail a few tracks to analog tape before we leave early Friday morning, July 25th.  Simply put, the band is entering it's favorite four walled world next week.
