On July 1st, 2007 Wayne Parker, Mary K Weinhagen and myself launched the very first edition of The Magic Happens Magazine. It was, without a doubt, a most inspired action and one that we decided to follow, which we did without question.

We posted 4 quarterly issues, one for each season. Sometimes it was really hard. One time it was really late because Wayne and I both got sick and we couldn't complete it on time. Most of the time it was really fun and we just knew this was something we HAD to do. We had been called into service for some purpose and we had to continue to follow it.

After the 4th issue, magic started to happen for The Magic Happens. Traffic increased dramatically, emails of appreciation and encouragement began flooding in from readers, a slightly new direction made it's presence known and we got noticed by some people in a position to help us take The Magic Happens Magazine to new levels of accessibility and creativity. It all just happened out of the blue; we didn't chase it, we didn't force it, we didn't dig up the back yard looking for it.

With a renewed sense of excitement and purpose, we dived into the 2008 Summer Edition of The Magic Happens - our first anniversary edition - and it was successfully released on July 1st, 2008. Once again, the traffic has increased exponentially and people reading are supportive and loving. We can only imagine what the Universe has in store for us over the next year, but if this is any indication, it's going to be a very fun ride!!

We followed our inspiration right into action, and now our cup runneth over...

Share in the journey. Visit with us and enjoy. :-)

Alchemy: The art of transformation or transmutation.

Situation Alchemy: The art of transforming any situation into a golden moment.

Situation Alchemy is a key to thriving in life and we would like to begin to show you how to do that for yourself.

Pop by and read our Squidoo lens about Situation Alchemy

And now, here is a tribute I wrote to acknowledge my father who passed away on April 13. It occurred to me that my tribute expresses 'applied' situation alchemy perfectly so I thought I would share it with those who read this blog. Enjoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~
The phone rang today, it was Mom to tell me of your passing. The news saddened me and in all honesty, I had finished mourning you long ago. Learning of your death caused me to start reminiscing about you, the lessons I learned because of you and how what I felt about you has changed so much over the years. I decided to write this down so that I would remember in years to come.
When I was a little girl, I just loved my Daddy. There wasn't a greater soul in all the land. The day did come when you decided to head off on an entirely different journey and you left me behind. For a very long time I was extremely angry with you and with me. I couldn't figure out what I did that could have been so very terrible that you would leave me like that.
Eventually though – when I was 30 something - I remembered how much I loved my Daddy and I decided to carry that with me instead of all the hurt. There came a time when I realized that I had a choice to make: I could either help you continue your tradition of anger and bitterness or I could love you for the beauty that resides deep in all of us. Because of your choices and my choices, I learned how to let go and how to go on loving someone in spite of the circumstances. This valuable life lesson has served me many times over and will serve me often in the future.
I also learned through that experience that I could do it for myself. I didn't need my Daddy or anyone else to tie my shoes. When you left, you declared me a big girl and it just took me a little while to step up to the task. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have become the self empowered, forward thinking, optimistic woman that I did, without you.
The pain you must have felt Daddy, I can't even imagine. It must have been something though to cause you to make the choices you did. Even when I knew you, you were always sad inside. When I was small I had a difficult time understanding why you were so sad – after all, you had a little girl like me…
Now that I am all grown up, I still can't understand the specifics of who you were or why you were so sad. I know you didn't like yourself much. I understand that whatever it was, it was just a lie you told yourself. It was easy for me to forgive your absence once I understood that you just got a little bit lost. We all get lost sometimes. Then again, I also trust that that was all part of the plan.
You chose a difficult role in my life. I want to thank you for that, it must have been really hard and yet, you lived up to the agreements we made before we came here. You gave me every opportunity to go forward without the habit of clinging to an anchor.
We are each the sum total of what we think we are and the choices we make. You had the strength to come here and be an example to me of what the outcome might be if we aren't careful how we see ourselves and what choices we make. For that, you are my hero.
I love you for the gifts you gave me. I remember you giving me my first radio at 4 and staying up late with you watching rock music programs – you taught me to love music. I remember the summers camping in the north – you taught me to love nature. I remember the long drives to no where and every where – you taught me to love my mobility. I remember you teaching me to play baseball, how to fish and how to laugh – you were always so very funny though I don't think you even knew that.
Truly, if it wasn't for you Daddy, I wouldn't be who I am today. What an amazing gift you gave me when you agreed to participate in a piece of my journey. I regret none of it for if any of it was any different, the outcome would also be changed.
You never loved yourself enough but that's ok, I love you enough for both of us. You have been and will always be missed.
Be well Daddy. I'll see you again some time.
Jeff Healey: A Man Who Thrived!
We at The Magic Happens would like to publicly say goodbye and fairwell to Jeff Healey.
41 year old Canadian musician Jeff Healey transitioned to a new energy form on March 2, 2008 due to a rare form of cancer that he's had since birth.
Jeff was a favorite of Wayne and Kat's because of how he chose to live life. In spite of having cancer since birth and being blinded by that cancer at the age of one, Jeff has pursued and accomplished his dreams.
Jeff is someone we all need to look at as an example of thriving. He lived life inspite of his challenges - maybe because of them - and he shone his light for us all to see.
Please drop by this Tribute to Jeff Healey, have a listen to his music and leave your own tribute in the guest book.
Remember this amazing man as the beacon of courage that he was. If a blind man who has been challenged with cancer his entire life can gain international attention in music - one of the toughest professions on the planet - so can we all!!
In Celebration of thriving!
Here's a great Abe quote that just came across my desk. If you are not familiar with Abraham-Hicks please feel free to check out their website.  You will find lots of inspiring stuff there to read and ponder.
Here's the quote:
"Now you've got this manifestation, NOW you are willing to do something about
it. We call it post-manifestation awareness. We're not mocking you atall with that!
We at The Magic Happens love news that makes us feel good. We were so excited when we heard this story we just had to share.
His Lucky Star:
Hunk Colin Farrell's Touching Friendship with street guy shows what a class act he is
by Mike Stobel
The beggars of Yorkville have eyes as big as pans these days.
All those film stars. All that spare change.
But a street regular known as Stress has struck gold. Pure Irish gold ...
Lunchtime. Eighty fans with Kodaks and pens are poised outside the InterContinental Hotel on Bloor St.
The brass door spits out an A-lister. Colin Farrell.
Not sure which dark, musky hunk is Farrell?
Ask your wife. Her knees will buckle.
Anyway, Farrell is no snob. Patiently, he signs for everyone, then turns toward his chauffeured, charcoal Audi.
And there stands Stress. For years, he has haunted Yorkville and environs, peddling Outreach papers or mooching loonies.
"Peaceful, harmless guy," coffee salesman Bill Ikos, 32, tells me. Bill's hobby is photographing stars, often in Yorkville, which is how he knows Stress.
Bill is outside the InterContinental for the hunk/homeless hug.
"Hiya," says Stress. The film star's eyes light up.
Four years ago, He was in town shooting A Home At The End Of The World.
A radio babe offered $2,000 to anyone who could bring Colin Farrell (sigh!) down to the station.
Farrell grabbed the first rubby he saw and, bingo, Stress was $2,000 richer.
"Jump in," Farrell says at the reunion Tuesday.
I wish I'd been a fly in that Audi. Down to Front St. they cruise, to Europe Bound Travel Outfitters.
"Get him anything he wants," says Farrell, in that commanding Irish tone. He wears jeans and a black muscle shirt.
Women staffers swoon. And not just over the bill, which comes to $2,100.
"Cool guy," manager Dave Mott, 36, tells me. "He doesn't act like a movie star."
Mott plans to tour Ireland by bike. "Don't miss the Ring Of Kerry," says Farrell, 31, born in Castleknock, Dublin, a preemie at 1 pound, 6 ounces. Maybe that explains all this.
They roam the store, Colin and Stress, cracking jokes, trying things on.
"Like they were best buddies," says Mott.
"The homeless guy was going around, grabbing stuff." Stress talks fast, hence the nickname.
"Whatever he needs," Farrell says again.
They pick out a $500 Arc'teryx coat, a North Face down sleeping bag, and a rolling backpack stuffed with socks, boots and underwear.
"Everything top line," says Mott.
Yes, Stress will be the best-dressed beggar in Yorkville this winter.
But hold on to your baseball cap. There's more Stress relief.
"Where's the nearest bank machine," Farrell asks Mott.
He returns with a wad of $20s. AND, he arranges to pay a year's rent on a nice room for Stress back up Bloor St.
The total tab must be near 10 grand.
Two and a half hours after Stress was swept off the street, he is back at Bellair and Cumberland.
"Where the hell you been?" says Bill Ikos.
"I'm all set up," says Stress, a tad frazzled. "This is my chance to get off the street." And he walks away.
"Amazing," Bill tells me. "You hear about someone like Al Pacino giving $100 bills. But to take a guy shopping and try to help turn his life around?"
Good thing Stress didn't run into Whoopi Goldberg or another star on the Yorkville panhandlers' "avoid" list.
"She never gives anything," says Joe Beard, who works Cumberland St. I've known Joe for years. Gentle as a dove. Kiefer Sutherland usually drops him a $10 or $20.
The film festival is high season for these guys.
The Colin Farrell gesture has them abuzz, which is how I hear. No one in the actor's camp, I hasten to add, has tried to use it.
Funny thing. As Stress, Farrell and a couple of aides leave Europe Bound, the security beep goes off.
Someone forgot to remove a tag.
Or it is the fates signalling thanks to a class act.
