Hey 'Gato-fans, it's been awhile, we know.
September has come and gone so quickly; and what with the EL GATO NEGRO film still in talks, uploading the ongoing 'NOCTURNAL WARRIOR' series at Webcomicsnation.com, as well as some super-secret side projects in development- we've had little time for updates. But this next October marks the sixteenth anniversary of EGN's first publication back in 1993, and we've got some big plans to celebrate. So please, join us in celebration of what we've officially declared as THE MONTH OF EL GATO NEGRO!

Hola Gato-Fans, This is the REAL Richard Dominguez with my report on what went down this past Friday, March 27 at gallery of my "One-Man-Show" The Art of Richard Dominguez: El Gato Negro, The Legacy of the Nocturnal Warrior. This is my first show...EVER!...first, let me say that I was honored as well as excited, shocked, nervous and very petrified when the good people at the Arte de la Rosa approached me (via MySpace) about this almost three years ago. So, this was something in the works for quite some time. We didn't want it to make it official until recently (through MySpace and Facebook), but with time, patience and so many tubes of acrylic paints and plexiglass panels...it all paid off. Then, I want to say thank you to David Mack (Kabuki/ Daredevil) for suggesting on using Arcylic (plexiglass) sheets to display the original comic book pages. David recently had a show displaying his ALCHEMY art in Austin, Texas back in December of last year. But I could not for the life of me...find those "L" hooks he used in his show. We settled for some sheet metal screws with the built-in washers and gave it more of an "industrial" look. I arrived in Ft. Worth on Thursday on a dreary gray rainy day and met with Kenny Hernandez at Rose Marine Theater and started the work of measuring, drilling and placing the three painted canvas, a couple framed pieces and the original art of EL GATO NEGRO #1-3 (the first series). I had brought much more art, but the gallery would only hold so much ( They could only drill so many holes, and I was told that this was the MOST art they ever had from a single artist!!). Before we knew it, it was already 9:00 PM on Thursday night and we started around 12 noon. We had to continued the next day, Friday (show day) to finished the other side of the gallery. I was really pooped and the long drive back to Dallas and picking up my son from school and getting the family ready for the long drive back to Cowtown, on a Friday, during rush hour. We made it back with fifteen minutes to spare (show started at 7:30) and there were already people there! The weather started getting very windy and temperature dropped from 50's to the 30's that evening (it might've been a factor that night). Nevertheless, people still came. As soon as I walked in the gallery with my family, a gallery worker, tending the bar, approached me saying that there was already people asking for me. I was asked to have my picture taken next to some of my painting with some people, and some asking me where they can get my books. I was introduced, and I gave a short "Artist's presentation" on myself, and humbly invited the people to step into my world and enjoy the fruits of my labor. There was plenty of food, and drinks for the people. My wife, Olga, even made tuna salad sandwiches on croissant rolls (it was for the gallery staff), and it went quick! Hector Cantu, co-creator of Baldo along with his wife, Linda and their son, Max were able to be there that evening. My old buddies from commerical art class, Juan Hernandez and Carl Crow were also at hand to check out my art (I haven't seen Carl in ages, it was great to see him!). There was also a play performing in the theater next door, "Beto's Magical Journey" done by a group of young and talented actors from the Latino community from Ft. Worth's northside. The people attending the reception all went there along with my family and friends to see the play. With so much going on, I didn't had time to take any pics of people checking out my work. (So, during the play, I went back and had the opportunity to take some for the Gato-Fans). After the play, the people returned and checked out the gallery once again along with some of the young performers to mingled with the people. Some of the actors approached me and complimented my work. I've already received commissions and as well as to be invited to a film festival to display more of my work. It was an AWESOME night!!! Well, as you know, just like any other family....the kids were tired and wanted to go home. I had to psyche myself to be awake for the long drive back home, but it will be an evening I'll never forget. -Richard Dominguez
