Yey! We rocked the Big Chill on Sunday! Here's me & Des... DSCN2805 Here's me & Lucy! DSCN2810 We had a blast and are grateful to each and everyone of you who bought one or more of our tracks to get us there. But the true course of rock never did run straight and with only three days to prepare for the gig after finding out that we'd won the comp, we did encounter a couple of exciting last minute problems: - My synth controller decided to stop working a fortnight ago, and as it was under warranty I sent it back to the shop in Newcastle who promptly sent it straight back saying it was working fine. Obviously they'd never heard of an intermittant fault because at the very next rehearsal it stopped working again. But no probs, I borrowed an equivalent thing from Des and used that instead. - Des' lovely Roland SH-101 decided in the penultimate rehearsal to also stop working, which was a real shame cos it's a lovely sounding thing. Luckily he had enough time to borrow a Korg Prophecy which did the job - but just not quite as analoguely and vintagely as usual. - We borrowed the Flippers' laptop to project their awesome visuals as per usual - only this time it was to be on two 20 foot screens, huzzah! But when I decided to check it 30 mins before setting off for the gig, it decided it was broken. This meant calling the Gav and the Jas to work out an emergency plan involving them uploading the 300 meg file to an ftp site and Des bringing a spare laptop. Unfortunately when Des tried to download it later that day, the connection was so ropey it kept corrupting. But for once, fate smiled on us, and the original Flipper Laptop (the Flippertop) miraculously came back to life with the message 'your system suffered a serious fault but it has now been corrected'. Woo-hoo - visuals are back. - I'm not even going to mention the drive there, the two hour traffic jam on the M4, getting lost around Gloucester trying to find the venue, and discovering police diversions due to an accident on the tiny country roads around Eastnor...! Here's Lili preparing to drive the visual rig: IMG_0614 (note that Lili is smiling bravely here despite suffering the agonies of a bee sting. She is indeed a trooper!) Here's a nice shot I took of the moon (top bright dot) and the ferris wheel (the star thing), plus some fairy lights and stuff: IMG_0587 This was taken shortly after arriving at about 9pm at the Big Chill. We had actually left London at 1pm, but got stuck in horrendous traffic and got lost a couple of times once we'd dropped our stuff off at the well dodgy B&B I had booked. Well it was cheap. There's usually a reason for cheap, and in this case it meant having a breakfast fridge doubling as a fire hazard - official! friddgeNew Here's Lucy in front of the running order of The Coop where we were to play: IMG_0589 You can see some of the stickers we put on it so people knew who we were and what time we'd be on. Lucy is proudly holding the sheet of stickers, as you'd expect. Here's my table at the B&B with sundry items, such as set list, albums, receipts, stickers and heroin spoon. IMG_0598 So on Sunday morning we turned up with all our gear, parked in the artist carpark and unloaded. The Big Chill is an amazingly well run operation. All we had to do was label up our stuff with big green stickers and then it was driven for us over to the stage where we could store in a lock-up until soundcheck/gigtime. IMG_0601 Have to say all the crew were amazingly friendly and helpful. There was Lila and AJ who were the artist management people and looked after us splendidly at the stage itself, Al the sound guy, and all the runners who drove the landrovers all day around the site ferrying artists, crew and kit. All super cool. The gig itself went really well. Although it was quite early in the day, we had several hundred people watching by the end, which was pretty good. (Incidentally we were playing in the biggest tent in the festival!) We even had a little group of dancers as well. So we played our stuff and it all sounded really good, and I think we gave a good account of ourselves. We were actually really pleased when the sound engineer came over to us afterwards and said he really enjoyed the set - those guys have seen it all, so was a nice compliment. DSCN2814 I think next time we need to bring a dedicated photographer, cos the only thing we don't have too much of is photographs from the event, which is a bit of a shame. The ones above of the performance are by my friend and colleague Mike, who writes for http://www.zapbangmagazine.com/ We noticed that the winners of last year's Alterhit comp where on before us, so hopefully we'll be invited back to play next year too. Who knows, perhaps we'll even camp properly next time rather than the dodgy B&Bs! 5376_136078117160_687732160_2811475_7558495_n 5376_136078107160_687732160_2811474_5060097_n

Latest News: WE ARE AT NUMBER #2!!
Thank you one and all..a few more sales and we're totally there!

Hi Cassette Electrik gang!
Imagine if somehow these three amazing things could happen simultaneously:
1. We play at the Big Chill Festival this August
2. You receive an awesome new song called ‘No Knowing’ from us
3. The British Heart Foundation gets a donation from Cassette Electrik fanbase
Extraordinarily, this can all happen with a simple action on your behalf thanks to a competition by a music site called Alterhit in which the band who sells the most songs by August 5th gets to play at The Big Chill Festival.
So far there are only 106 bands in the competition, and the band in the lead has only £16.40 in sales at the time of writing. Surely this measily sum is easily beatable...!
What you need to do...
We would really love to play at the Big Chill and therefore would love you to register with Alterhit and buy our two songs from them at £1.50 each, so that we have the most sales and get to go to the ball! Which is clearly quite a cheeky request...
To sweeten the deal, we promise to donate all proceeds from these sales to the British Heart Foundation via the London-Brighton cycle ride, which our old pal Mr Looptron is doing
You also get 2 versions of our brand new song No Knowing... you can preview both on our Alterhit page. It is not available to buy anywhere else currently, and won’t be until our new album comes out later this year.
Procedure:
1. Go to
Alterhit.com
2. Register for a Friend account
3. Charge up your account with £3
4. Search for Cassette, locate our
page and click 'buy' on the two songs we have there.
5. Download the songs, watch us rocket up the charts and feel good about your charitable donation!
Lucy and I have got the ball rolling by buying our own songs and have managed to propell us to chart position #5 already!
Does that all makes sense? It’s a crazy mission, but we have faith in you all, people!

Hi All,
We're pleased to announce the preview of a brand new track - 'No Knowing', which will be on our brand new album due this summer.
It is the first of several new ones we'll be posting on the myspace over the next few weeks and kicks things off in fine style (we think!)
Funky verses, smooth choruses and big fat distorted middle-8 = yey!
Also note at 1:20 the little squiggly synth sound, which is the Gakken SX-150 kit synth as sent to me by our fan Tsuyoshi from Kyoto, Japan. (Read the full blog about here)
There's also a splendid dance mix of the track by DJ Adamix, which can be heard here:  http://www.myspace.com/cassetteelectrikremixes
Let us know if you like it! (no need to, if not ;-)

Cheers to everyone who came down to the Underworld ast Sunday!

We had a good fun supporting The Client, and felt that we were ably supported by Kindle and his two burlesque dancers! (He was very good actually, I would recommend a trip to see him play a clubnight; would be banging!)

One or two of you may have noticed a slight technical hitch during The Smartest Bomb, which I can't deny. My only excuse is that for some reason the on stage monitoring had failed so we had to rely on the bounceback from the main club speakers, which was fine until my Moog went out of tune, and I don't know if you've tried tuning a Moog mid-song to the soggy wash of sound reflected from the back room of a venue, but if you have, you'll know it's not that easy!

Still, all was recovered for the following song, Voyager, so not too much harm done.

Aside from that, it was certainly a fun gig and judging from CDs sold, it seems we were appreciated too, which is always nice.

No more gigs booked for the moment while we work on Album 2 and the amazing Mega Concept it's going to be based on. Details to follow shortly...

Tickets are £11 in adv - but only £6 in advance from us!!

Email your name to info@cassette-electrik.net to get on the £6 guestlist.

Look forward to seeing you there!

We thought we'd enter the Orange Unsigned comp thingy as a budget to record the next album would be nice, etc.

You can see our page here:

http://orangeunsignedact.co.uk/acts/cassette-electrik

You have to login to vote, but don't let that put you off. You want us to win right?

It's worth listening to the other electro acts...some are quite good, some are terrible as you'd expect, but it's interesting to see what people are up to. You can listen to the electro ones by going here:

The bands have been booked. The DJ's arranged. Looking forward to playing a bit longer than the standard 30 mins, it'll give us the chance to build up a bit of momentum!Miss Davina LeeRecommended to us by our co-promoters of the night, Plum Music, MDL are great fresh sounding blend of electro and summery indie pop. We really like their music, and think you will too. We're looking forward to seeing them play live, as we've not experienced that yet - but we know it's gonna be good.Looptron, as some of you will know, is our good friend Neil's solo electro project. He says: "Looptron is a sort of electronic music type thing that happens sometimes." We say: cool sounding electro-disco-funk-pop with added vocoding. Quality.Looptron & I were at the opening night of Electroqueer and DJ Adamis was playing such an awesome selection of electro that I realised he would be perfect for our opening night. And he's up for playing, so yey's all round.Rob EY ..The founder of league-online.com and passionate champion of new electro and the bands that make it, Rob will be spinning a fine selection of electro to warm the night up. Look out for his upcoming EY Vol.1 compilation album, coming out on Undo/EMI later this year - featuring CE amongst others! All in all it should be a top night, and for only a fiver in advance (£6 on the door), there's no reason for fans of electro and great music not to be there, as far as we can see.
