Current mood: scared
....................Ok here's the situation....I'm currently on
unemployment...which pays me $332 every two weeks....now I was informed in my
last certification letter that I will exhaust my unemployment benefits "in
the near future" and that a claim for emergency unemployment compensation
would be filed for me automatically...now this doesn't mean that I will
automatically get it...and that the requirements for certification will be much more stringent...since I haven't been able
to find work I enrolled at SIUE to try to get a degree and hopefully find a
career where I won't have to go through this again....but I've been told that I
will lose my benefits once school starts which is Monday (not by the state I
have to call the IDES local office to confirm that since the website is less than forthcoming on this subject)...so with that
in mind I applied for every position I could on campus in addition to my
continuing efforts to find work elsewhere...the only job offer I have been
given is for a part time job on campus that is minimum wage and can only schedule me for 6 hours a week....if I take it I will definitely lose my
unemployment and will make only a fraction of what I was receiving on
unemployment (about $92 every two weeks before taxes)...I will barely be able
to keep gas in my car and food in my stomach, let alone pay any of my
bills....so I'm not sure what to do here...and I've got till later this morning
to decide a course of action....I have to go to school...I've already paid
for the classes with the financial aid and loans I've taken out......but if I
do that I'm going to lose unemployment...if I take this job I'm going to lose
unemployment....I am at my wits end people have told me to take it cause
something is better than nothing but others have told me not to since I'm still
getting unemployment (and I'm not certain that
things have changed about losing unemployment for going to school...which is
insane IMO since if I could find work I wouldn't NEED to go back to school in
the first place) at least for the time being...so I'm not sure what I should
do...I feel like I'm down and the system is kicking me in the face for being
there...I just don't know what I should do.

I want you to watch this video...it's 2 hours long so sit back ...make yourself comfortable and above all watch the whole thing......then I want you to comment on it...after I get enough comments I will make my own views clear. But please take it seriously and seriously consider it before you respond. Thanks.

Current mood: anxious
Ok, I have started the process for getting into SIUE in the fall, and as the subject says, I'm scared shitless. But I got my FAFSA paperwork done and submitted.....I picked up my transcript yesterday and today I'll be going out to the SIUE campus and if everything goes smoothly be admitted and start the process of figuring out what I'm going to do as far as what degree, and what classes to take. I'm scared due to many reasons, now most of them my roomate and other friends have said aren't really reasons to be afraid for and should be ignored, but that knowledge doesn't make them go away. I'm dragging my feet this morning because I'm afraid. I'm afraid because I don't know if I'm doing the right thing, I'm afraid because I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to pay for it, in addition to not knowing whether or not I can get enough financial aid to pay for it all. I'm also afraid of the fact that once I start school I'm going to lose my unemployment, which isn't much I grant you, but it's more than nothing. Then there is the fear that I'm too old now to do this, that some of the things I would like to do in college, (choir, theater, etc.), I'm just too old or have been out of it for too long to be any good at them. I mean what if I get in there and I fail? What happens then? Do I try to get another dead-end minimum wage job or near minimum wage job that breaks my body, numbs my mind, and crushes my spirit? So much fear going through my mind and that's just on this one issue. *takes a deep breath* Well I feel a little bit better having gotten that out. I guess I'll go jump in the shower and get this over with. I appreciate any words of encouragement and if you think me going is a bad idea, have some damn compelling reasons why I shouldn't (and "you should be working" isn't one of them), otherwise keep your negative comments to yourself cause I'm having a hard enough time dealing with my own doubts without you adding to them. Anyway I'm off

Current mood: geeky
Alright, having seen the latest Star Trek movie, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. The Alternative Time-line ploy that was used was used to good effect. I like the idea of turning the Trek universe on it's ear, and making way for an all new continuity. I was worried that they would stick too close to the original which would doom it from the outset, it being locked into what has already been exhaustively established. The story was fast paced and didn't suffer from the plodding pace of previous Trek films. There were enough "winks" at the Trek fans without going over the top. The characterizations portrayed in a slightly new way breathed new life into old established characters. I was particularly blown away by the new McCoy and Scott characters vibrantly young but with a touch of the old to keep it in the established characters. In fact my only complaint would be the design of the Enterprise itself...to me it looks stubby and not the elegant design I'm used to...mainly due to the saucer section being shoved backwards on the fuselage too close to the nacelles...but that's just my opinion. All in all I enjoyed it very much, and it is my hope that the next films will STAY in this new time-line, in order so the franchise can go where it's never gone before....anyway I'm off....L8r

I figured I would post my resume on here. I'm wanting to get back into the IT field, tired of working non IT related jobs. My salary requirements aren't that large. If it's local, as in within 10 miles, I only require $250 a week take home. The farther I have to travel obviously the higher that requirement needs to be.
