After a season break C69 returned to Durty Nelly's this month with a fantastic night of comedy.

Our resident Host James Christopher was glorious as always and along with guiding us through the evening shared stories including hilarious tales of his ex girlfriend and praying.

The night was opened in style with Comedian Ian Smith who's unique style has won him awards during his short career.  I am sure that he has a very bright future ahead of him and we look forward to seeing him at C69 again in the future.

The first of the 2 shows was offered by Chris Brooker who performed his Edinburgh Preview "Unstoppable".  He shared his experience and achievements (or not in his opinion) over the last 32 years in an enthusiastic and side-splitting style.  Chris also shared his view on family life, his mother's love of pets (in a geniuine sense) and how living with 2 other Comedians is not always a laugh a minute.

To end a perfect night Ben Schofield performed his successful one man show "Don't Panic".  Ben's warm and energetic style had the audience mesmerised as he shared his fear of the dark, views on relationships, the media and siblin rivalry.  Ben is the norths answer to Billy Connolly - do not miss the opportunity to see him in the future.

The next show is on 17th Aug when we will be celebrating the Club's 1st Birthday with a night of the best comedy around including a headline set from the fantastic Richard Coughlan - a night not to be missed.  Tickets £5 available from Durty Nelly's and via: www.givemetickets.co.uk and www.quaytickets.com

Have also got some great acts coming up including Trevor Lock, Frank Sidebottom, Rob Rouse and Jason Cook - tickets £8 available now from quay tickets and give me tickets (address as above) - They are all selling fast so book now to avoid disappointment.

C69 returned to Durty Nelly's on Sunday 20th April with another smashing line up.

As always our glorious host James Christopher welcomed everyone to our humble Comedy Club with his hilarious tales and graciously guided everyone through the proceedings.

Dead pan Comedian Sean Moran opened the show and had the audience in hysterics with his stories of work within the teaching profession and how pointing out to a person that they are shy is not the best way to break the ice.

After a short break it was time for the Magners Comedy Lounge to begin. Masked Dan made his regular appearance in his own unique way explaining why he is so proud to live in Hull. We were also given the treat of 2 videos from ThereplicagooseEgg.

The next act was the fabulous Andy Train who firstly teased the audience by pretending to be a strip act we were slightly disappointed that he actually wasn't until he entertained us with tales of his experiences whilst working as a nurse within the NHS. This includes descriptions of basically every bodily function and procedure known to man, very funny but also quite worrying!

James and Masked Dan then asked the audience to think of a challenge that Dan had to complete before the show on 18th May. Lots of suggestions were offered but the winning idea was for Masked Dan to present the news with Peter Levey. We look forward to seeing the result next month also big congratulations to Sean and his Partner who won the competition and now have 2 free tickets to the next C69 Show.

As if all the excitement was not enough we now had the amazing headline act to look forward too. Chris Mayo offered his experience of life and love in his usual enthusiastic, energetic way. As he stated in press interviews during the previous week his act is full of audience interaction and he managed to find lots to discuss with the audience. One of the Club's biggest supporters Shirley Highton provided Chris with lots of material resulting in her becoming the star of the show!

A big thank you to all the amazing acts and to Sandra, Mike, Tracey and Mike for their continued help and support. Also a massive hug and shake of the hand to our lovely host James and Adam.

The next Carnivale 69 will take place at Durty Nelly's, High Street, Hull on Sunday 18th May 08. All tickets £5 doors open at 7.30pm. There will be another great line up hosted by James Christopher with performances from Tony Law, Don Barr and more from Masked Dan and the Comedy Lounge.

March’s Carnivale 69 Comedy was a complete treat for all who gathered together in Durty Nelly’s on Sunday night.

Our resident Host James Christopher opened the proceedings in his usual way sharing stories of his lovely Gran and her recent press coverage (James is not bitter!). Leeds Comedian Dan Bland was the first act to hit the stage and his dry wit soon had the audience in hysterics. He is definitely an act to look out for in the future.

The wonderfully talented Sam Jones opened The Magners Comedy Lounge with his unique style of comedy and music. He wowed the audience with his songs about pirates and politics along with the most amazing ending we have ever witnessed – Sam we have every faith that you could be the next Ronan Keating! The next act to be introduced was our regular mad man Masked Dan who along with 2 replicagooseEgg videos also treated the crowd to the video showing evidence of the challenge he was set last month. We all enjoyed Dan’s visit to Bridge End even though it looked a lot like the Humber Bridge! More from Masked Dan and ThereplicagooseEgg next month.

After a short break James Christopher returned and after explaining the importance of reading warnings on beer mats he encouraged the audience to stand to welcome the glorious Mister Paul Foot to the stage.

Paul amazed the audience with his energetic and unique style of comedy which everyone found hilarious apart from Ben who was sat at the front (have no fear he was rightly punished!). Paul shared his views on life, relationships and the moistness of cake before making love to the majority of the audience and closing the night with a prayer.

A massive thank you to all the acts that took part it was definitely a night to be proud of. Also a special thank you to everyone who came along and the team at Durty Nelly’s, Polly, Chris, Mike and Mike B for their continuous help and support.

The next Carnivale 69 will take place at Durty Nelly’s on Sunday 20th April when the headline act will be the fantastic Chris Mayo who returns to Hull for the 3rd time due to popular demand. Plus support from Sean Moran and lots more fun and frolics including our gorgeous resident Host James Christopher and the scary but hilarious Masked Dan. Tickets £5 in advance, £7 on the door.

Well this month the day of our event started even earlier than ususal as it was our job to escort the lovely James Christopher to Seaside FM (He cannot be trusted in crowds).

So we all met up and popped on a bus to the lovely seaside town of Withernsea where we would go to the Seaside FM office to chat about the Comedy Club and to introduce our new host to the world.

Before dropping by the Studio we enjoyed a stroll by the sea and a spot of lunch in the lovely cafe next door (fish fingers, chips and beans are highly recommended).

During the interview James had a chat about his influences and the two comedy nights that he runs in his hometown of York - Black Comedy & 1331 Comedy (check out their myspace pages for more details).  We also had the opportunity to offer a taster of what is coming up at C69 including performances from Paul Foot, Tony Law, Chris Mayo, Trevor Lock and a Frank Sidebottom Take Over in October.

Mike was supportive as ever and we would like to say a big thank you to him for his hospitality - we look forward to a return visit!

Once the interview was over we then dashed to Hull to finalise the preparations for the main event.

James Christopher opened the evening with his charm and comedy tales which helped to get the audience in the mood for a night of the best comedy.

The Magners Comedy Lounge commenced with an appearance from Masked Dan was who talked about many subjects in his own unique way.  We were then treated to 3 replicagooseEgg films one of which involved a new game show idea along with Masked Dan's visit to Hull Fair and a warning of how the charm of a plastic dancing Christmas Tree can come between 2 friends!

Scarlet Lights closed the Magners Comedy Lounge with highlights from their recent play "sheality".  They had the audience giggling with their sketches which covered the woman's view on relationships, waiting for that phone call, friendship and dieting.

After a short break dead-pan Comedian Mike Newall had the audience in sticthes with his own take on the world.  He really is a guy to look out for in the future.

The headline act for the evening was the original Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppett Theatre who began their set with their theme tune "I'm a sock" which drew all the crowds attention to a small stage and 2 little socks.  The performance of their Edinburgh Show included various hilarious songs including a take on "happiness".  The show came to a dramatic end with the socks unique performance of Romeo and Juliet.

A great night was had by all and we just want to say a massive thank you to all our acts and everyone who came along to support us.  Also a special thank you to Mr Christopher who will guide the audience through the world of Carnivale 69 every 3rd Sunday @ Durty Nelly's Pub, High Street, Hull.

There is lots more to come so make sure you do not miss our next event on Sunday 16th March with performances from Sam Jones, Masked Dan, Dan Bland and Mr Paul Foot all this and of course our resident Host James Chrsitopher.

The first Carnivale 69 Comedy of 2008 was an event to be proud of.

Our host of the Magners Comedy Lounge Masked Dan hit the stage with the assistance of the Magnum PI theme tune! He engaged the audience (or terrified them we are unsure!) with his unique out look on the world and himself.  Unfortunately we had a few technical difficulties when attempting to show the replicagooseEgg films but we got there in the end.  This has taught us not to leave Masked Dan alone with technical equipment in the future!  Our opening spot this month belonged to the wonderful Shirley Higton who offered the audience a few tunes in her own unique style.

Once the Comedy Lounge was over everyone was offered a break to refill their glasses before the second part of the show commenced.  Supporting Russell Kane was Twisted Talent Competition winner Mick McGrath from Leeds who offered a fantastic set as always.

After another short break Russell Kane exploded onto the stage.  We were all then treated to his successful Edinburgh Show.  Russell opened the night with energy and mayhem offering his views on America, travelling, Jade Goody, terrorism and sexual endeavours of the older generation (we will never look at a stair lift in the same way ever again!).

His stand up routine was then scattered with hilarious sketches with the assistance of Sadie.  Topics included racism, sexism and the shakespearian language!

Russell has a big future ahead of him and we urge anyone to go and see him if they get the chance.

The next Carnivale 69 Comedy will take place at Durty Nelly's on Sun 17th Feb and will welcome Masked Dan's co-host, York Comedian/Promoter James Christopher (hopefully we will find him before then!).  The event is set to be a fun one with performances from The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre, support from Catie Wilkins and an opening performace from Hull's own Scarlet Lights.

It is a new year, and with that prophecy is coming into fruition. I should really explain. Sometime last year, I forget when, a fortune teller gave portent that we at Carnivale 69 would bring forth the leader of all. Obviously we though her to be a bit fruit and nut. That was until we found he who can only be named as JAMES CHRISTOPHER, because that's his name. He was to bring order to our rebellious event. That was until he was kidnapped at the very point before making his debut. It is a strange and obscure scenario, particularly because they still have not contacted us to ask for a ransom. Where can the young MR CHRISTOPHER be?

Is he in York?

Is he in Hull? (oh dear god please say not)

He could be anywhere..........

If you do see JAMES CHRISTOPHER anywhere please drop us a line, we are very worried about him because it's past his bed time and his hot chocolate is getting cold. Hopefully we'll find him before RUSSELL KANE takes to the stage and bring about the second coming. Alternatively, we may receive his finger in the post with a phone call demanding money. Either way the 20th January promise to be an amazing start to the new year

The Carnivale 69 Comedy Christmas Party was enjoyed by all that attended. Christmas decorations and festive music was played to help everyone get in the mood for the season.

The night was opened by a few tracks from the fantastic Sam Jones who shared with us his most intimate feelings through the art of song.

Our good friend Chris Mayo then hit the stage with his usual comic style. He was helped immensely by the audience who was only too happy to share their stories of life and relationships. Chris even had a slight manic moment, which urged him to jump on the Victorian bed (which is now a table) this soon passed though, and he soon returned to the safety of the stage. Make sure you do not miss Chris when he returns to headline Carnivale 69 in April next year.

Just when we all thought the night could not get any better Mr Scott Capurro graced Hull with his comedy presence. Scott is by far one of the most honest and straight talking comedians on the circuit and offered his views on a wide range of subjects including politics, relationships, his family and Canada which has the audience in fits of laughter. At the end of his set Scott was presented with a Birthday cake to assist with the celebrations for his birthday on 10th Dec.

The night was closed by a set from Hull's own Late Night Fiction these guys are amazing and a truly original act – make sure you look out for them in the future.

Massive thanks to everyone who came along and offered their support.

Our next show which takes place on Sun 20th Jan 08 promises to be a corker and we are delighted to announce that Russell Kane with the support of Sadie will be bringing his successful Edinburgh Festival Show to Carnivale 69. He really is a star of the future so make sure you catch him now at this intimate venue. Support will be offered from Leeds Comic Mick McGrath who was the winner of the recent Twisted Talent Competition as always live music will be provided after show.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALL AT CARNIVALE 69 COMEDY – WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN 2008.

The following article was in the Hull Daily Mail this week:

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

He's told unsavoury jokes in every English speaking nation on Earth.  One national newspaper described him as "evil" another proclaimed him the most fearless stand-up on the circuit.

Wherever you stand with comic Scott Capurro - who's routines have included encompassed cancer, AIDS and the Holocaust - it's unlikely to be that wobbly bit in the middle of the fence.

The Californian arrives in Hull this Sunday, for the latest gig organised by Carnivale 69 Comedy.

And the briefest glance at his website gives a flavour of a comedian who has never settled on the middle ground.

Much of it is unrepeatable in this, or any, newspaper - Lord knows how many laws we would contravene.  But if comedy is about looking squarely and unshamedly at the issues affecting the world - rather than self-indulgently surreal flights of fancy - then Capurro is something of a patron saint for free speech.

Recently he's been gigging in Canada - a nation renown for it's liberal attitudes - and sharpened his claws on the comedy scene of Toronto.

"Iwas shocked how small and slightly snipey the comedy world is there.  I mean, it's Canada", he says.

"You expect everyone to be arms akimbo, at all times, and very kind.  Syrupy, to coin a Canadian phrase.

SCOTT WILL BE LIVE IN HULL ON SUNDAY 9TH DEC @ DURTY NELLY'S FROM 7PMWITH SUPPORT FROM CHRIS MAYO AND MUSIC FROM SAM JONES AND LATE NIGHT FICTION

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported Carnivale 69 Comedy this month.

We had a line up to be proud of and a great night was had by all that attended.

The Comedians were offered the unique opportunity to perform on a bed with a colourful backdrop (Carnivale 69 is always an experience to remember)

Northern Comic Ben Schofield opened the night with his usual energy and enthusiasm. I think we all walked away feeling enlightened and will always keep his comments on relationships, films and toilets close to our hearts.

The wonderful Trevor Lock was the main act of the evening and left us all feeling completely laughed out and entertained. Along with his usual conversations with the unruly audience (thanks to the minute taker for his help in keeping everything in check!) and bar staff he offered us tales of sexuality, vicars and bananas!

The night was made complete by a set from Hull Indie band the fantastic Tarifa.

A fun night was had by all as we joined together upstairs in a pub in the centre of Leeds to celebrate the fabulous comedic talents of Mr Trevor Lock.

We were delighted to assist Trevor in providing an exclusive gig for all his myspace friends.

The night kicked off with the hilarious Ben Schofield who ensured the crowd were entertained with tales of hairy men/women, porn and galvanising in dustbins to name but a few!!

After a short break, a few drinks and the opportunity to peruse the preview range of Trevor's new merchandise if was time for the main event.

Trevor graced the stage and immediately had everyone in the palm of his hand by asking all in the room to remove an item of their clothing! He performed his unique comedic style with fantastic timing along with making pleasant conversation with the bar staff and burly men that kept wandering in and out of the room (we were too scared to question or ask why!). I think the highlight of everyone's evening (apart from the fight outside and excitement of ambulance sirens) was having a lesson on how to take your underwear off without removing your trousers!

Just when the night could not get any better Trevor's Swap-o-Rama took place. This gave anyone wishing to take part the opportunity to present items to be swapped with fellow audience members. Imagination went wild resulting in people bringing along anything from cillit bang to unbreakable bubbles. Lots of swapping took place with the help of Trevor's fantastic hosting skills. Loot bags containing Trevor themed treats (including a pair of pants with Trev's face on – what more could you ask for!) were distributed to a delighted crowd. Finally after a selection of intelligent questions and voting the guy who showed us all how to remove underwear from underneath his trousers won the main swap prize and was presented with a bag of goodies including 2 tickets to see Trevor perform at The Hull Comedy Festival.

After midnight Trevor was ushered off the stage but not before giving us a quick flash of his sexy blue bikini!!

Trevor will be returning to the North as part of the Hull Comedy Festival. He will be performing a one off stand up show on Sunday 28th October 2007 at The Northern Academy of Performing Arts, Anlaby Road, Hull, Tickets £10/8 available now from Hull City Box Office, 01482 226655
