Beyond Perception - The Final Descend

    Greek band BEYOND PERCEPTION was initially formed in the summer of 2004 as a Progressive/Rock band by Kostas Kalavrezos (Guitar), Panos Kalavrezos (Bass), Tolis Toleas (Drums) and Paris Poukamisas (vocals, guitar). The course of the band altered after a while due to the emerging Metal/Rock influences of its members (sic), thus changing drastically their idiosyncrasy and musical compositions. Having created the musical material that expressed them, BEYOND PERCEPTION record and release their first demo-album which finds positive respond by their fans. The band makes tours and live performances in ....Greece.... while their music evolves with heavier and more aggressive tunes. Two years later ....Paris.... decides to depart from the band due to musical differences. That leaves them in a difficult state, seeing as they had no singer and new material to work on, so they search for approximately ten months to find a worthy singer, up to their musical standards. Eventually they came across Panos Karnaris (former singer of W.F.D.D) whose unconventional character and taste upgraded them to a higher musical level. The band records another demo with their new singer and after a few months of hard work and live performances, and with the urging of their fans, comes the recording of their first complete album. Promptly after the release of the album, tours all over Greece, performing and playing as a support band with big names in the Greek Metal scene while making themselves successfully known outside Greek audience through various websites. “The final descend” is modern thrash core with a lot of industrial and old school metal elements. This band has a sound close to bands like THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES with a more metalcore approach that drive the listener to check the album. The experimentation with middle east scales are creating an old school Swedish thrash mayhem, with volume, giant riffs and the typical howls all over. From MACHINE HEAD to MESHUGAHH the distance is not so big, if you cover also the SOULFLY, KREATOR trend. Here we have a new thrash metal band with semi brutal vocals that flirts more with the US/Swedish sound and try also to get some innovative elements at the guitar department. The production could be a little more edgy at guitars and with some extra volume at the drum-bass department to show the bands wall of sound that is so crucial for this type of music. Yet the songs are competitive enough, well crafted and the performance put the band among the good second class bands of the genre and one you have to follow on their present and future works. An effort that initiates promises, lets have the future decides.

Είναι αλήθεια πως τα τελευταία χρόνια ο αμερικάνικος stoner ήχος κάνει απόβαση στα ελληνικά clubs, καθώς όλο και περισσότερες μπάντες εμφανίζονται με πολύ καλό και πάνω από όλα ενδιαφέρον υλικό. Οι BEYOND PERCEPTION είναι μία από αυτές τις μπάντες που με την πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία, αν και ήρθε στα χέρια μας ένα χρόνο μετά την κυκλοφορία του, δεν αφήνουν περιθώρια αμφισβήτησης. Το συγκρότημα μετράει στην πλάτη του γύρω στα 5 χρόνια παρουσίας, έχοντας έναν prog/rock ήχο ο οποίος μετατράπηκε σε πιο heavy με την αλλαγή σκυτάλης στο μικρόφωνο από τον Πάνο Καρνάρη.
Ο μουσικός προσανατολισμός της μπάντας δείχνει προς νοτιοδυτικά. Stoner/sludge ιδέες με εμφανείς επιρροές από DOWN, CROWBAR και κάτι λίγο από CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Και όσοι είναι αυτοί που ισχυρίζονται πως δεν είναι και τίποτα δύσκολο να παίξεις stoner στις μέρες μας πέφτουν αρκετά έξω στις εκτιμήσεις τους. Οι BEYOND σίγουρα δεν προέρχονται από παρθενογένεση, θα βρεις αρκετές ιδέες που κάτι σου θυμίζουν, αλλά νιώθεις όλο το vibe που εκπέμπουν οι συνθέσεις τους. Τα κομμάτια τους, μέσα από σκουριά και λάσπη, σε γραπώνουν για τα καλά και σε τραβούν μέσα στον αμαρτωλό τους βούρκο. "Know Nothing Tender" και "Tribute To Dirt" είναι τα 2 πιο δυνατά κομμάτια που ξεχωρίζουν, ενώ η μπάντα περνά και από πιο χαλαρά μονοπάτια στα "No Majesty In Zero" και "Follow" για να καταλήξει στο εκπληκτικό "Beyond The Borders Of Perception" όπου τα σύνορα της αντίληψής μας, όπως λέει και ο τίτλος, καταρρέουν.
Για να έρθουμε και στα πιο τεχνικά μέρη, η παραγωγή συμβάλει τα μέγιστα στο να αποκτήσουν τα κομμάτια την κατάλληλη αισθητική. Ισορροπημένη ανάμεσα σε κιθάρα και φωνή, και με ένα μπάσο που κάνει έντονη την παρουσία του την στιγμή που πρέπει. Με λίγα λόγια ο δίσκος φυσάει και η απόκτησή του κρίνεται επιβεβλημένη σε κάποια από τα πολλά lives που δίνουν τα παιδιά. Ελπίζω η διαδικασία της συνθέσεως νέων κομματιών να έχει αρχίσει.

The debut release of the Athenians BEYOND PERCEPTION presents a really dynamic and powerful combo that's here to make some noise and is determined to blow some heads off along the way! "The Final Descend" can't be easily and clearly classified under one genre, but it rather encompasses various elements from different genres with those of stoner metal and hardcore prevailing. This means that the album's well balanced, having both melodic or atmospheric parts and passages and aggressive bursts of violence. The vocals are very efficient and enhance the extremity of this release, moving clearly on the hardcore path, whilst the rhythm section is really tight, creating the necessary foundation upon which the compositions are build. I really liked the more mid paced parts of some songs, which create a dark and imposing end result. The production's also very good, serving the songs and generally this is a really good and promising work for the fans of this sound! ....
