The Loft Letter..

For the week of 01.07.08

Notes From The Loft @ XM 50

It's hard to believe that seven years ago this week I arrived for my first day of work at this great new dream called XM Satellite Radio.   We weren't on the air yet, in fact the satellites weren't even in the sky and the station I was hired to create was temporarily called "Clean Air."

We've come a long way in these past seven years, which have in many ways passed like the blink of an eye.  From the first three years of doing it all myself with only the help of a man named Pants (the absolute best production guy I ever worked with), to having outstanding professionals like Jerry Rubino and "the new kid" Franny Thomas around every day.  And thankfully, Pants is still here as well.

Now as we begin our 7th year at The Loft we finally have a way to give you up to the minute programming information, without relying on this weekly missive.  The new XM Electronic Programming Guide is live and active on the web.  Simply go to http://www.xmradio.com and click on the pull down menu for ON XM.  Scroll to the station you need the schedule for and click on any show for more details.  You can manipulate the date and search in advance, as well as setup a favorites menu.  It is just like a TV Guide grid for your XM Radio.  If you wish to go directly to The Loft and bypass the main site, go to http://loft.xmradio.com and click View A Program List at the bottom of the page.

Very soon there will also be regular blogs on our Loft Page from Jerry, Franny and myself and a way for you to blog back with us.  This is still a work in progress, so look for changes, updates and additions over the next few weeks.

With all of these new changes it is no longer necessary for me to send The Loft Letter out on a weekly basis, so starting with this issue, The Loft Letter will be a monthly email and each issue will contain at least the schedules for the next month of specialty shows.  Below you will see the full Loft Session and From The Living Room To The Loft schedules through mid-March!  Of course if there is any ground breaking news that we need to let you know about immediately, we will send out a special edition of The Loft Letter to help keep you informed and up to date.

Wishing you a healthy, happy and safe 2008, and thanks as always for making The Loft part of your day.

Sincerely,

Mike

Saturday, January 05, 2008

Here's a music quiz I received and filled out.  I usually don't like these things but I thought the questions were unique.

My answers are bold

1. Have you found a song running through your head on more than one occasion? What is it?

Daily, today and yesterday and actually for most of the last week it has been "Day To Day Thing" by Phil Roy.

2. If you've gone through a particularly bad breakup, what song do you associate with it?

Harry Nilsson "You're Breaking My Heart (So Fuck You)"

3. What's your musical guilty pleasure? A band, song, or genre that you enjoy but are ashamed to admit it?

I have absolutely no shame but I guess "Make It With You" by Bread would cause sort of a blush.

4. Name a song that makes you sing out loud when you're alone in the car?

Way too many to mention.

5. Name a song, band, or genre that forces you to change radio stations and possibly even rip the knob off?

I try never to be put in that situation but anthing by Hootie and The Blowfish, Julie Andrews or Creed will cause me to seethe with uncontrolled rage.

6. Is there a song that can make you cry?

Again, way too many to list, but to name just one that stands out it would be "One For My Baby" by Frank Sinatra. It was my father's favorite and ... well... I'm filling up already!

7. Is there a song that always cheers you up?

Many but I'll list two: "The Return Of Jackie and Judy" by The Ramones and "Back Of A Car" by Big Star.

8. Is there a single song that reminds you of high school?

Not really... perhaps Jethro Tull "To Cry You A Song."
