I have now only ten copies of "La Vaquera ... And Other Tales Ripped From The Road" (2007) remaining. It's nice to see that almost the full run of 200 has been sold, thank-you to everyone who bought one! If you don't have this CD, why not order one now before they're all gone!
I still have supplies of my first CD "Sacred Water" (2002) and my most recent album "Tales From Gingerwitch Green ... And Other Secret Places" (2008).
All these CDs are available online for just £4.99 at Green Man Music ,or from me in person if you catch me at a gig.

... kind of!
The Museum of British Folklore contacted me while I was in Mexico, saying that it was running a presentation on the modern uses of Horned God imagery and to ask if it could incorporate some of my song lyrics as examples within their exposition.
Originally it was interested in my lyrics from the song "Pact" (from the compilation album John Barleycorn Reborn / Cold Spring label, 2007) but it's now also looking at lyrics to my songs "Call Upon Everything (from the album Sacred Water / Green Man Music 2002) and "Cernunnos" (from the album Gingerwitch Green / Green Man Music 2008). I'll post more information on the full content of the presentation when they fix the date. I expect the event will take place in London. You can visit the museum's website HERED

It's All Over!
But what a fantastic weekend! From my own perspective, the build-up for me involved putting the website together and making badges and stuff, and then I was catapulted into the festival frenzy over this weekend, helping Nick Stubbs in the King Billy's Acoustic Lounge with the stage and the compering, and also performing there (ably assisted by Nick Stubbs on sax!).as well as other venues.
Everyone has a different perspective, from Organisers to volunteers to bands to people who came specifically to watch the music or just chill out.
It would be great if you would share your experiences, favourite band, or any other feedback
you want to give us on the 2009 Cottingham Springboard Festival (obviously you can also give feedback to the relevant Venue Organiser) on the
Springboard 2009 section of the Green Man Music online forum here:
http://cactusdoug.proboards.com/index.cgi
... But There's Plenty Still Going On!
Meanwhile, the Springboard Venue Organisers just don't stop! Springboard Monthly runs an acoustic
night on the third Friday of the Month at the King Billy, hosted by Dennis Caruana & compered by Ukulele Bill; Acoustic Underground runs each Sunday night at the King Billy, hosted by Ian Kennington & Compered by Ukulele Bill; Face The Music runs an Open Mic at the Blue Bell venue
each Wednesday night, hosted/compered on alternate weeks by Frank Johnson and Bobby Joyce; Music HQ runs an acoustic night alternate Fridays at the Hallgate Tavern hosted by Darren Bunting who also organises a number of live music
evenings in Hull; Africa Studios runs a Tuesday evening open mic at Durty Nelly's hosted by David Elf; Tuesday @ The Tap runs an acoustic evening followed by open mic each Tuesday at the Tap in Hull, hosted by Neil Kirton; Off The Road is a monthly orginal music night at Hull's Adelphi Club hosted by Jayney Wright; and over in Hornsea acoustic and open mic nights at the Vic are run by Nick Stubbs.
The people above have all been involved with the Springboard festival and you can find links to their sites on my top friends list. However if you run a music night, feel free to post it below as a comment. We'd hate all the Springboard fans to suddenly have music withdrawal after such an intense weekend!
Thank you for your support of this great festival .... already looking forward to Springboard 2010!
Doug

I'm trying to track down at least some of the websites, myspace sites and photographs of Springboard Festival performers where I haven't been provided with them, so I can add their links and stuff to the Springboard 2009 Website Tracking down performer Danny Landau at first proved difficult until a Myspace Search revealed a possible location for him:

In the late 1970s, a Texas musician calling himself the "Legendary Stardust Cowboy" a.k.a "Ledge" (real name Norman Carl Odam) released his 70-second long cult hit "Rock It To Stardom" on Amazing Records. After laying down such tracks as alternative versions of Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon" and and "I Took A Trip (On A Space Shuttle)", he eventually vanished into obscurity somewhere in the region of Amsterdam.
Meantime, emerging onto the music scene in the UK is one locally acclaimed singer-songwriter Lewis Blofeld - and upon recently coming across a photograph of "Ledge", an uncanny resemblance to Lewis was revealed.
Could it be that, descending from Amsterdam in cloud of space-dust, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy was reborn as Lewis Blofeld?
"Ledge" and Lewis - two of a kind or one and the same? You decide.

Calling All Hands & All Bands!
ALL HANDS! - i.e. venue organisers/hosts
Just a reminder that I'm now updating the Springboard Website at www.springboard.bravehost.com for the 2009 festival.
As usual, as soon as I receive details of the acts that are performing at each venue (where possible along with details of their myspace or website so I can put a link to them from the site and also grab a picture) I'll add this to the relevant venue's page.
Getting this information online is increasingly useful, as we saw last year heightened media interest means that the website is often where they get information for their festival/gig guides etc.
ALL BANDS! - i.e. potential and confirmed festival performers, even if you're not technically a band ;-)
If you also have a Facebook page, Cottingham Springboard is listed as an Event with the title "2009 Cottingham Springboard Music Festival" in the category Music/Arts - Concert. It's an open event so you can invite anyone, and is thus a good way of getting the message out, so feel free to invite everyone on your friends lists.
In respect of gigs themselves, please contact the relevant venue organiser - I'm just looking after the website!
Cheers, and looking forward very much to seeing everyone again for the 2009 event.
All the best
Doug.

OK here's a Springboard caption competition for you.
In this picture (left to right): "Cactus" Doug Peters, Pete Clayton, Dennis "Capo" Caruana and Ukulele Bill. But what are they doing/Saying?

Deadline is whenever my new CD comes out, which will probably be the end of July, and the prize is one of them! (Maybe more if I'm bombarded with a difficult choice of excellent gags. )
How to enter! Three ways:
(1) Reply to this blog if you're happy using just text. (2) Post a comment on my page and embed your photo if you're into speech balloons (given that Myspace is still "working on" its swish new rich text blog editor, as it has been for the past two years). (3) Email the pic or comment to cactus_doug@hotmail.co.uk and I'll post them together on here with the final results.
*
PS Don't forget that I came into possession of a couple of musical accessories that someone may have mislaid during the Springboard festival - please contact me with a description if you appear to be missing something. Also, a reminder that you can give us any feedback on the 3rd Cottingham Springboard Free Live Music Festival on the Springboard section of the Green Man Music Forum - the programme information is still up at The Springboard Website, as if your memory needs jogging ;-) Cheers Doug
