Hello.

We started recording Guantanamo Beach Party on Tuesday.

We've finished drums, bass, wurlitzer and some guitar.

We're going back tomorrow and Monday to finish it up.

It is sounding fantastic so far.

Adam Tucker is a badass.

We got a few reviews of our EP recently.

HEAVE liked it.  http://www.heavemedia.com/review/232/The-Van-Gobots-EP

Melodic.net did not.  http://www.melodic.net/reviewsOne.asp?revnr=7774

This next record is so much better.

OMG.

You're going to like it.

Hey folks,

I suppose all of you internet folks are entitled to an update from your favorite lower/mid level indie/post-punk band.  Fine, no need to twist my arm.  Where to start...

We've had a whirlwind couple of months.  SXSW was absolutely outrageous as predicted.  I promise we'll post more pictures sooner or later once I get my film processed.  When we returned things went into hyperdrive.  Mike had a baby (his name is Wyatt, he's pretty cool) and we decided it was a good idea to play 4 shows the month after he was born.  That was cool though because we got to play with some super great bands (including opening for Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin as well as Headlights and The Love Language).

Now we are gearing up for the fantastic process of releasing our first full length record.  Yes you heard it correct, it is official, we will be recording a new album starting in exactly two weeks.  We're excited to be working with Mr. Adam Tucker (of Nobot fame) over at Signaturetone Recording (http://www.signaturetonerecording.com/).  We've been playing the new material live for the last month or so, so if you like what you've been hearing then you're in luck.  We're really proud of the direction our new tunes have taken and are really excited to get them recorded.

The record is going to be called Guantanamo Beach Party.  It's not as political as it sounds.

As for live shows we are taking a few months off to properly record and handle some of the business of putting out a new record.  We are playing Pictures of Then's CD release show at The Uptown Bar on July 10th, and that will be mighty kickass if you ask me.  They've been great friends of ours for quite some time and they're a blast to hang out and play with, so you'd better come.

We'll also be playing at this new spot on Lyndale and Lake called Sauce.  That's at the end of July.

Last but not least, we'll be doing a kickass CD release blowout type shindig at the end of August roughly, but we'll let you know when that is set in stone.

That's all for today.  I just finished my last term paper and am officially done with college.  Nick should be wrapping up his last couple credits any day now.  I guess we're all real people now.

Take care,

Mattbot

We leave tomorrow. 23 odd hours later we will be in Austin, Texas. We will have a great time. We play 2 shows on Saturday night. Nick's mom is making us sandwiches for the car ride. Kansas is boring.

We'll let you know what is going on. Photos... yes. Twitter... yes. Video? quite possibly, depends on how drunk Matt gets and how ambitious he feels.

If you're going to be in Austin send us a message and we'll meet up for some shenanigans.

This will be ridiculous... officially.

Hello friends and enemies, here is what has been happening for The van Gobots:

First off, we've been busy fending off illness the last few weeks, but also we've been boarded up in our practice space writing new songs. We've got a good 7 or so written right now and we'll be continuing to write more over the next few months. We're really excited about the new direction our songs are taking so don't be surprised if we decide to put out a full length record within the next six months or so (wink wink).

Next order of business, we have a couple of great shows coming up in the next 1.5 weeks. We're playing Camel of the Sea's CD release party at the Hexagon Saturday Feb 28 with Economy Team and Wide Eyes. We're really digging the new Camel of the Sea recordings, and Economy Team kicks ass, so it should be a pretty killer time.

Wednesday, March 4th we're Playing the Uptown bar with Reckless Ones and Mnemosyne. Reckless Ones is Kevin (of Plastic Chord)'s new band and we're psyched to see what they've got, and Mnemosyne is the hip-hop brainchild of our good friends Ryan Kopperud and Riley Lang.

Also on the horizon is our second trip to Austin Texas to hang out, eat barbecue, and chill out for all the SXSW festivities. We're playing two festivals on 6th Street while we're down there:

Wednesday March 18th 11pm @ Treasure Island - Heart of Texas Music Festival
Saturday March 21st 8pm @ The Blind Pig - Red Gorilla Music Festival

Anyone that will be in Austin should get in touch with us and we'll get together for a few beers.

Lastly, we're trying to stay up on all the new technologies these days, so we started a twitter account. If you're on Twitter or decide to join up, you should "follow" us... as the kids say, to get updates on upcoming shows and general newsworthy happenings. http://www.twitter.com/thevangobots

That's all for today.
Much Love, Mattbot

Hey gang, just figured we'd fill you in on what's been happening and what we've been up to

First off, we took a little 2 month break to write some new tunes. Nick is in DC for the inauguration but upon his return we'll be playing at the Hexagon on Friday, January 30th.

We're also gearing up for another big trip to Texas this March where we'll be showcasing at some of the side festivals of SXSW. We'll be playing at the Red Gorilla Music Festival and we just got selected to play the Heart of Texas festival while we're down there. We'll be sure to keep you posted

Lastly, Rift magazine just reviewed our EP this month and had some nice things to say about it. You can read the review here: http://www.riftmagazine.com/?p=474

Later folks,
Matt

Hope everybody is having a nice couple of days off from life. We got a nice little write-up in the Billboard.com college music guide. You can read it here:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/collegemusic/minneapolis-um/college-town-profile/bands.jsp

We're playing on Saturday December 6th at the Uptown Bar with self-evident, Hunting Club and John Snell the Tenth. It is Hunting Club's EP release and the tracks we've heard sound sweeeet. Check them out, come to the show, you know the drill. We'll probably play around 10 or 11.

That's it for today. Much love from Matthew.

Now first off, well may god rest his soul

my brother once told me the world would be cold

i got older and understood

sometimes you gotta do wrong to in turn do some good

but I keep in mind that if my image in the mirror makes me sick

i better re-focus quick

(be)cause if we go too far then we're too far gone

and then we're screaming a different song

because things do change yes..there will be better days yes

but there will be days like this

well mama said it..mama said it

and we're living proof so let's forget it

just look at the world's state

deteriorating from the inside..I hope it's not too late

this is simply our fate..let's hope for a change

B(arack)O(bama) 2008..just know

everything happens for a reason

watch, the leaves change at the end of the season

remember..respect's not given..well it is earned

and no pointing fingers this time

because we take and we give, take and we give

and we're so damn quick to blame

tell me you'll never be that way

tell me you'll never be that

same old..same old story often told and over looked

now take note we've followed the path this far

still don't know where i am

have you thought of who you are?

not the materialistic class(lower,middle,upper) logistics

it's nonsense no matter how they put it

we're all on this see-saw we teeter-totter

our spotter came too late

so we're lifting the weight

(just)to break down like an old ford

the newsflash gave me eye sores so i ripped out the cord

because nothing changes and i admit i should change but

the negativity keeps pouring in

so i cope by taking straight pulls of off-brand gin

dont even bother with a chaser

i plan to ingest the lies my government feeds me later

i'm not angry, i'm over-whelmed

snap out of your spell and i can assure you that

everthing happens for a reason

don't take freedom of speech as blatant treason

put one foot in front of the other one day at a time

and no pointing fingers this time

because we take and we give take and we give

and we're so damn quick to blame

tell me you'll never be that way

tell me you'll never be that

same old same old story often told and overlooked again

if it's there why can't I see it

tell me there's still hope less a gun for a misfit

i always thought we would move along just swell

it's common sense so no need to prove it

FIGHT..DIE....REPEAT so there's constant movement

the sound of TAPS in the distance

a widow's black veil

oh no..no pointing fingers this time

because we take and we give take and we give

and we're so damn quick to blame

tell me you'll never be that way

tell me you'll never be that

same old same old story often told and overlooked.
