In looking back on 2009, I wanna thank all you loving peoples for your help with that NPR contest earlier this year-- we were touched by receiving support from such wide-ranging places. The distance-record I think was southern Africa. I'm serious. Now, in addition to giving you my heartfelt THank YOU!, I wanna ask for something else: ***** Darling New Neighbors' new album, "Rocket", is now available online-- on iTUNES, and CD BABY: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/dnneighbors In Austin, "Rocket" is also for sale at Waterloo Records. It is like the greatest Christmas gift known to man. Other than maybe the divine presence of our Lord. ******* A Kinda Recap on "Rocket": The album sounds great (yes I'm biased but others have asserted as well); we put a LOT of work and love and time into it. I highly suggest you opt for the actual CD (vs. digital), because the packaging-- the visual art and screenprinting we did-- is something beautiful to behold, and is the product of a very personal and concentrated effort, i.e. NOT yr typical dang plastic! We involved a few local artist-pals (Adam Young, Jaime Cervantes, Satch Grimley) who created art & layout and screenprinted these suckers individually. The music itself also thrived from contributions by musician-friends and engineering types (Gary Newcomb, Jeff Hoskins, Billy Stull)-- some serious Austin-style lovin'. We ourselves DNN recorded the whole deal over the period of more than a year (gulp! yes.), so these songs are like a really serious roux that we sat and sat with, burned a couple of times and started over, and in the end yielded a very rich, complex, and well-loved creation. Each of the band (me, Amy, and former drummer Reid) contributed songs and jumped around different instruments (including myself, Elizabeth, on drums for a couple!). I wish you great holidays & may we all come through unscathed, & frankly I look forward in particular to New Year's Day. Much love, Elizabeth

Hi-
our dear friend Mollie Fischer, cellist & human extraordinaire, has a family tragedy that we DNN are trying to support her about. She has this adorable 21-year-old brother, Joe, who had a terrible accident a few weeks ago and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Mollie, her sister Rachel, and Silky Shoemaker (of Camp Camp fame & 1000 other creative madnesses) are throwing a benefit this Sunday, Dec. 13, to raise money toward his recovery costs. You probably know Mollie through one of her musical projects, such as Hello Lovers, Amanda Mora, the Dreadful Sorry, the musical Faster Than the Speed of Light, or any other stage-struck moment a performer was lucky enough to have her join in.
She and her partner Erica Nix alone go a long way toward powering the grid that is Art in Austin.

Please join us in supporting Mollie and her family & a big chunk of the creative community they have fueled. You are welcome please to re-post!! If you would like to help in additional capacities like bringing food, donating art/ gifts for auction, or working the door or such, please reply to this email.

hey if y're on top of yr shit, maybe you are thinking of some things you might buy some people for the holidays gift-time. i humbly suggest that one of the greatest visual & aural pieces of art from the last year is "Rocket", which you can get online or at Waterloo Records in Austin.
it is pretty ridikkulous cheap & is a no-brainer way to support yr local economy, yr DNN, an array of other helper artist-types involved, plus w/ the undeniable self-indulgent benefit of: ROckin Yr World.
