Sound Check- sinner vs. saint this is the new first chapter to the new book by Jeremey Brown "Rockstar Devotion - Lifestyles of Sinners & Saints" www.myspace.com/rockstardevotion chapters will be posted on youtube throughout the summer as well.
As a concert promoter I have worked with thousands of bands over the years, bands on every level and from every musical genre. From local bands just trying to make it, to bands that have sold millions of records, I have seen inside lives of every type of rockstar. As I look at my faith in light of what I have learned in the music business I see my own spiritual tour to the destiny God had prepared for me. Have you ever wondered what you were created for? Maybe you have a deep passion or feeling for something or maybe you have no clue. What ever you religious beliefs might be, you’re sure to find areas you can relate to throughout this book. As you start this tour through Rockstar Devotion, you will find it places a spot light on the unseen world of the supernatural. There will be moments of chaos, loss and tragedy. There will be moments of success, victory and reinvention on this tour. It is a journey through the spiritual tour of life that never ends.
On this first stop of the tour we come to the stage of reality. To truly get the most out of your spiritual tour through life you must come to a place of honesty. No matter what your faith is in, life is hard and the ups and downs we journey through are enough to knock the excitement for life right out of us. Devotion in my personal faith seems impossible. It’s a daily battle of hypocrisy trying to live like a saint when I know I'm a sinner. Honestly none of us are perfect and we all have personal battles we fight through. One battle I have continually tried to fight is the battle of hypocrisy.
Webster defines hypocrisy as "from Greek hypocrisy act of playing a part on the stage, hypocrisy, from hypokrinesthai to answer, act on the stage" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hypocrisy) That is the life of a rockstar playing a part on a stage. But rockstars don't live all their lives on the stage. Some live in big houses in Hollywood, many live in beat up vans on tour and at home with their parents when not on the road. (Think I’m kidding? Watch the videos from "Music Hall Bands and Their Vans") www.myspace.com/herostatus ) Rockstar devotion is about living out life as a sinner and saint on the stage of life, but not for an audience of hundreds or thousands of people. Rockstar devotion is about taking the stage with an audience of One, the only One, the unseen God who created the stage of life. Going on the tour of our lives, with God there guiding us through some of the biggest victories and struggles we could imagine. Whether you don't believe in a God, you've been in church your whole life, you’ve found new faith or are not sure what to believe, God is always calling everyone to take the life tour through Him. We all have the seed of hypocrisy birthed inside our bodies. If you’re like me, you try so hard with all you have to be a good person, yet daily you stumble because the seeds of sin planted in you. Let’s start off here being real, let’s be 100% honest hiding nothing. It’s easy to hide behind pretend walls of works or self-righteousness when on the inside we have so much killing us. For the sake of success on this tour let’s get real. Who are you, really? Not who your parents want you to be or who your friends expect you to be, who are you? What do you believe about God? What are your struggles? We are all hypocrites. The book of Romans in the Holy Bible says we are “sold as slaves to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” (Romans 7:14-15 NIV). Have you ever felt that way? Trying to make a change in your life and the world for the better of all humanity, yet continually failing yourself and others? Maybe that’s too big of a cause. Maybe easy going is what you want, a great job, great marriage, great time to spend doing what you want. Life is always guaranteed to get in our way from doing and being all we dream of. We all have the desire to do good, but we can’t always carry it out. “For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:18-19 NIV) If you’re like I was before I started my spiritual tour, then you don’t want to say you believe in something you’re not sure you can follow through with. If you’re like me, then you don’t want to say you believe in Jesus and not be able to live a perfect life. That was my major misconception; coming to faith in Jesus doesn’t mean we lose the hypocrisy that’s aligned in our body. We will battle with hypocrisy as long as we live. The seed of hypocrisy is planted in us at birth and at a certain age we all become aware of the difference between right and wrong. The bible says we are created in the image of God yet because of the seed of sin in us, we are not perfect like God. The corpse of sin is something we will daily battle throughout our spiritual tour. Coming to faith in Jesus is the beginning of the spiritual tour that plants the eternal seed of sainthood in us, that will overcome the sinner 100% the day our bodies expire. Faith in Jesus starts the tour for life, giving us His divine power to overcome the hypocrisy within us and giving us the strength to become the saints God created to conform to His image. Let’s take down the fake walls we have placed on the outside and let who we are on the inside, be seen. God knows who you really are and when you are honest with Him and yourself, His true work of bringing the saint to the service begins to shine through, if you will let Him. “So I find this law at work; When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God-through Jesus Christ our Lord!”(Romans 7:21-24NIV) The apostle Paul was a man that had seen Jesus face to face and God used him to write half of the New Testament including the book of Romans. Paul was a man who followed God’s law religiously and was more faithful then I could ever be, yet he still knew the truth; that only through his relationship with Jesus could the saint overcome the sinner in his life. We all carry around in us the corpse of sin in our lives. Paul was saying that our deliverance from the corpse of sin doesn’t come from legalistic efforts of good works, nor by being super religious, but only through the power of Christ, the saint can over come the sinner. So the spiritual tour starts with a struggle of hypocrisy. We are not God, nor are we able to be perfect like God. Yet as we take this tour on the stage of faith with Christ in reality, knowing we are not complete saints and never truly Rockstars in our own effort, through Jesus Christ we find reinventing resurrection power to over come parts of the battle against the hypocrisy in us. “For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.” (Galatians 5:17-18 NIV) My first major in college was Religion and one of my professors for a class called Spiritual Formation was Pastor H.D. McCarty. He used an illustration in class that makes me think about the battle of hypocrisy. He said that the spiritual walk with Christ is a lot like tuning a guitar. If the strings are turned too far to the right or too far to the left it makes the wrong sound. That’s what our spiritual tour is like, to make the sound check sound like God intended, we have to be tuned with balance, not to liberal in our thinking and most definitely not too legalist. Christ is who makes us saints, He walked the perfect line in tune with God to not only show us the path to abundant life, but to be the sacrifice so we can have eternal life and take the spiritual tour with the creator of the universe. The men and women of the bible are perfect pictures of the lifestyles of sinners & saints. Throughout the bible we find the biography of man named Peter. Peter became a follower of Jesus, but at the cross, Peter backed away and said “Hey I don’t know this guy” he didn’t stick to what he believed about Jesus. Though Peter had seen Jesus do miracles, in a moment of weakness, he buckled because he feared death and was uncertain about his faith. Peter’s story radically changes after the death of Jesus. Once Peter sees the resurrected Jesus, he no longer doubts and faces many hard times. There was no longer doubt and Peter didn’t care if he was put in prison, beat, or put to death. He had not only walked with Jesus and seen him perform miracles, he saw Jesus die, he saw Jesus buried. He then lost all faith and hope and three days later his mind was blown away, because he saw Jesus alive. I mean what the heck, could you imagine the shock? The battle that was going on in Peter’s mind from the cross until the resurrection, could have been doubt that Jesus wasn’t even God or worth following. Then all those thoughts were crushed by the truth that Peter saw Jesus die, and now He was alive in front of him. This wasn’t some fun new religion Peter was going along with, though that’s what the story could have looked like if you stop reading about Peter at the cross. Peter was put to death for preaching about Jesus. He stood in the face of death and I’m sure at his execution he probably said something like this “I know Jesus is God. I was at the cross, watched him die and saw him conquer death by walking right next to me three days later. Jesus wasn‘t lying, He is God.” On the spiritual tour we are most certain to face daily changes that challenge us to grow. Like Peter, our spiritual tour becomes more difficult to go to the next level in the journey of life with all the distractions we see along side of the road. I guess what I've learned in all this spiritual touring, is that God wants me to lay all my gear down daily, to seek him freely, to ask, to seek, to knock, to live the abundant life he promises to me on this tour of life. Getting as close to the perfect balance, I can, by following the example of Jesus that brings the perfect tune for my spiritual sound check. I have also learned my personal sound check isn’t for the world to see. It doesn’t matter how perfect we look on the outside to God, He knows what’s inside us. The spiritual sound check isn’t so we can conform to the religious bubble, but so we can come close to our God and let Him tune us perfectly, so our tour is full of abundant stadiums He has created us for. At this place ,God amplifies His power through our weakness and when we let Him bring us in tune with that perfect balance we become walking billboards of His grace that impact the world. The tuning provides purpose that last and fuels the spiritual tour. What does your spiritual tour look like today? My spiritual tour started in Van Buren, Arkansas at 18 when in my senior year of high school I was faced with the future of fatherhood, really the only sight of my future other then jail time because of my addictions. I had come to a breaking point after being arrested 11 times my junior year and watching one of my best friends die in my arms after an overdose on LSD. I ran away from home, living on the streets, in cars, on top of schools, running from God’s call on my life. I had prayed prayers before, I even had FBI agents tell me about who Jesus was while setting in the narcotic office, but there was still no change in my actions. The breaking point for me was the thought that I was going to be a father, but a screw up at that, finally I was at my weakest point. That night was rough. Depressed I asked God; "God if you’re real, please give me a purpose in life". Not even an hour later my father George Brown Jr. came to me with life changing truth and I had to make the choice; either my dad and Jesus were liars, or they were 100% true. So I made the choice to believe Jesus DID die on the cross for my sins, that He DOES promise me a hope and a future through Him. I came to faith in Jesus empty handed nothing to hold onto, I was willing to let go of the drugs, the party lifestyle, even most of my friends to take a chance on this Jesus. Over the past twelve years, I've seen great success as a pastor, then as concert promoter and business owner, but in those great successes, in those same seasons I have also seen great failure. Great things were given to my empty hands. A great future lived, great moments, people and things given then taken away. Taken away until all blessings of yesterday had vanished leaving me where I started the tour a decade earlier, empty handed. Being empty handed isn't so bad, it frees up our hands and hearts so they can be filled with the one thing that we were created for. No other treasure but Jesus Christ, that's what I got. He gives, He takes away, and He gives again. It is the treasure no one can foreclose on, it can never be repossessed, it is the journey that never ends and its 100% true. What is keeping your hands tied down from getting the most out of the spiritual tour? Have you lost something or someone? Do you feel like you lack purpose or have no vision for your future? In this place of reality, knowing that your carrying around a corpse that battles with you everyday you can step up to the stage of faith and let Jesus’ love and strength surround you, and bring out the saint you were created to be. If you feel empty handed, it’s not a time to fret, it's the place where God wants you to be. This is where the tour begins. It is where God can guide you to the next step to fulfilling your purpose. It’s where he places new opportunities in your path, it is the place where he puts the right people in your life. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to give you a hope and a future" It's the point where we all must come before we experience the eternal tour. No matter how much money we have, how much knowledge and intellect or talent we think we possess, whether its wealth, power, poverty, fame, failure, or success none of us get a VIP pass to heaven, without first coming empty hand to Jesus. Being real before God knowing we are hypocrites, sinners needing His presence in our life to make us saints. Romans 6:23 "For The Wage Of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus" Abundant life starts with Jesus and is the tour of a lifetime adventure. Discovering Jesus in real life, with and through Him, the good, the bad and the ugly times, challenges and defeats, victories and successes all allowed by God. We have freedom to seek him or not, either way if we are seeking him, joy and tragedy will come on this journey it’s just part of life, but that is a part of the adventure. Jesus power in our sound check makes us more then conquerors because we have All Access Pass to the supernatural. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son,” Roman 8:28 The sound check of reality brings us before God and He gives us strength to take the first stage as a Sinner and a Saint. On this stage we don’t lose hypocrisy but we see reality, that there is daily battle within us, and like Paul and Peter, we will struggle with the sinner, but the saint can always overcome when power of Christ tunes in perfect balance.
PRAYER for us hypocrites: --- Jesus I want to be real, please help the battle within me between the sinner and the saint. Please give me wisdom to continue to be real before you and others. Give me strength to overcome the daily choices in the battle of hypocrisy and let your spirit give me wisdom to live in balance with you, like the saint you created me to be.

Crucifixion brings resurrection How would you live today is your past never happened? At the cross we die to the past and are resurrected by Christ power to a blank slate. The place of reinventing is the place of crucifixion. Knowing what it is like to die, be barred and raised again as reinvented saints for the purpose of letting the Jesus in our hearts become the only thing left in us. Living, breathing, surviving, though I am dead, I am alive in Christ alone. This is were I found another way to die, with nothing left here but Jesus we find another way to live. Are you dieing to know God, dieing to who you were and what you dreamed, forsaking all to truly have abundant purpose in life? I don’t know about you but for years I had a hard time seeing with my ears and hearing with my eyes. The fog of life blinds so much that we pray that God would give us eyes to hear and ears to see, not knowing how blinded by the fog we are. Yet through the fire of crucifixion the fog of this world lifts up and we are able to truly see God’s direction and purpose for our lives. Here He gives eyes to see and ears to hear. “Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf be unstopped”(Isaiah 35:5 He is the true vine and we are the branches apart from Jesus we can do nothing that will last. Apart from Jesus I am nothing more the worst of sinners corrupt to the core. Its this stop on the tour that must continue through the life of a believer. Though we all at times put up a façade of change on the outside of our lives we can’t change what’s on the inside without crucifixion. The spiritual tour with Christ can not happen without crucifixion. The crucifixion from within dieing to who we are without Christ is the beginning of reinventing through resurrection to a new life, new heart beat, and new purpose. At the place of the Skull a criminal who was crucified with Christ found another way to die. . “When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, ‘He saves others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.’ The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’ There was a written notice above him which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him; ‘Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!’ But the other criminal rebuked him. ‘Don’t you fear God,’ he said, ‘since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.’ Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:33-43 NIV
Your Crucifixion Do you remember your place of the Skull? The place where Gods Holy Spirit became one with you and you were born again in spirit and truth to another way to die and another way to live? All is new here, the old is forever gone. If you have never been to the place of the skull if you have only been an observer never truly knowing Jesus let today be the day you start the tour of eternal life. Believe Jesus will do all He has promised ask Him in and you will never be the same. None of this can work without faith that the Holy Spirit gives when we ask Jesus in. Here at the place of the skull this love that burns deeper then the sea, and taller then the sky we find purpose that last beyond a lifetime. All we have here is Jesus and all we are is Jesus. Just like the thief on the cross at the crossroads of death, he asked Jesus for life, he had been crucified next to Christ because of his poor choices but he ask, he believed and he found another way to die. Today for what ever reason be it from walking with God or be it your poor choices come to your place of the Skull. Has the evil, darkness, the snakes of your life crushed you on the tour? Don’t dwell on the past but remember when the tour gets rough again you can look at the hard times in light of what you lived through and know that you have already been crucified with Christ. At the place of the skull, fear, doubt, death, darkness, evil, snakes have no power over you because Christ died once for all and we know that since He was raised, He is the only thing that has power over us. Through Jesus death and resurrection He has cut the heads off the snakes, demolished evil, shines light in the darkness, and defeats death. Embracing this stages takes away all fear. Like Job you already lost it all and when you felt so dead you can’t even move remember where you found another way to die. Never forget that all the stages of favor are secondary to the only thing that never leaves. The life we live today must be by faith in the Son of God and not in the things and people that will fade with the seasons.. Living Gods word, breathing it, it’s the only thing sustaining you, moving you, picking you up off the floor leading you to the day were you live like yesterday never happened. Loss becomes gain here, you will never be the same when you know the fellowship of Christ sufferings. Because it leads to the fellowship of His resurrection power in your life hear and life after.
Another way to Live
Here at the place of the skull we never sleep alone, here we never walk alone, here we see what the apostle Paul wrote from the walls of a prison cell. This is were the living word comes full circle, you can know the living word by living the emotions found in it. This conclusion to the tour is the tour never ends it’s a tour for life and beyond. This way to live is the one thing that brings all contentment and escapes everything on the tour we find. I never again want to let life get in the way of seeing Jesus crucifixion and resurrection. When we have been crucified with Christ we have nothing to fear, nothing can hurt us here, we already died once with Christ now the lifestyle we live as sinners & saints is by faith in the Son of God. Let this tour lead to change in you. This is were we lose hypocrisy and become real as sinners & saints on the spiritual tour of life. Satan will put up road blocks and try to use our weakness to lead us away from Highway of Redemption. Though we might stumble from time to time we have the power of Christ to bust through those road blocks when we go back to the place of the skull. Living like your dead having another chance in this body another chance to make change, find purpose, and impact the world for the better being filled with the resurrection power of God’s love. You can make a change in this other way to die, lives can be changed as you have nothing left to loose and everything to gain. The place of skull is not a onetime thing though salvation never leaves we are stuck with Jesus no matter what we do. Yet to kill the sinner every day we must start at the place of the skull so that the saint in us will have renewed resurrection power to demolish the daily road blocks. . Message of the cross is foolishness it means that the sinner is going to his funeral. Another way to die going to our funerals at the prison of our life in the body everything dies, our past, our goals, our dreams, our actions, our successes, our failures, crucified to the point of redemption, reinvented the life I now live I live by faith in the Son of God. Life will beat the hell out you one way or the other but on this side of the cross its never in vain because it leads to your destiny as a saint being conformed to the image of God‘s one and only Son. Really friends this way to die, is the only way to live. This place on the tour drowns out everything else. There is nothing living in us other then our faith in the Son of God. God I hope we can never forget this place. What the apostle Paul said in Galatians 2 is conclusion to Rockstar Devotion, it is the lifestyle of saints that still have sinners in them trying to die another way, so we can live another way. True purpose is found on this stop, it’s the purest place we come because every stage we step onto from here is given by God’s divine resurrection power. When we come back to this place we can move forward, broken barricades from the past have disappeared, failures no longer exist, set free moving forward with the One and only Way to life. God loves us so much that His Son was crucified to death and raised back to life so we could experience the divine power of His love. Make your devotion to live out the word of God and become the change in the world that longs for truth. Another way to die Part I of II is my final chapter for "Rockstar Devotion - Lifestyles of Sinners & Saints" all chapters are unedited if you couldn't tell. the book will be out this summer, publisher tba. add the Rockstar Devotion www.myspace.com/rockstardevotion “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 The end of this book turns around to where we started the tour. This is the part of the tour we can’t live without. I write these words in conclusion that it says all that needs to be said. I have been crucified with Christ, who I once was died along time ago yet parts of who I was becoming over the years needed to die again. The process of writing this book has been three years long but the tour started for me twelve years ago. While writing Rockstar Devotion God has brought me closer then I have ever been to Him. After all these seasons the only way I am living and breathing is by faith in the Son of God. I have been crucified with Christ and who I became is no longer living, who I am now is living on one thing alone, the strength of Gods unfailing love. On the stage of faith we are sure to find all the levels of knowing God, the stages of favor and the stages of suffering. Desiring to experience faith in Jesus through His divine power and purpose for our lives begins at the place of His crucifixion and continues from His resurrection. Getting to the Highway of Redemption we talked about in the last chapter always begins at the cross. At the cross we are fueled by faith in Christ resurrection that leads to the stadium of divine retribution. I have found that truly getting closer to God involves my own crucifixion. Our own personal crucifixion cuts the head off the snakes that have held us down and brakes the chains that are holding us back. It strips us bare of the hidden locust that are killing us inside, through the fire of brokenness we are able to see what in many ways we have become as sinner & saint. How vivid do you remember the day you died to who you once were? Has life got in the way of what you believe? Have the habitual actions of our cultures religion kept you closed off from what it means to truly know Jesus? Have the things that you have gained from the seasons become the purpose that drives you? Sometimes the stage gets so full we lose sight of who we are on this tour for. My vision at times becomes so jaded to the point that I stop living for Christ and start living for things that come with the seasons. The things of this world take up so much space on the stage that we forget God’s love for us. What ever our idols are God won’t share us with anything or anyone else. If it takes a blindsided blow to knock the hell out of us then He will do what ever it takes to shake us back to Him. God wants to cut out the infections that are holding us back but we have to be willing to let Him. Are you willing to lose it all and cut off the parts of you that are keeping you from truly knowing Jesus the Bible talks about? Writing this book being crucified with Christ all over again lead me back to the day I first believed. The vivid memory from when I was 18 asking for a purpose for my life. I had lived through hell like I told you in the first chapter and the only part of my life that wasn’t hell I had lost. At that point I no longer wanted to live because I felt there was nothing better for my life. As I set in my room with thoughts of suicide I asked God for a reason to keep on living, as I sat there my dad knocked on my door and said “Son I know your hurting but God has a purpose for your life” he said this without me even saying anything at all. I tried to reason with him why I didn’t think God was real and even if He was what would He want with a loser drug addicted kid who had been in and out of jail and had a baby on the way. I told my dad I can’t get any better then this, he said “That’s why Jesus died on the cross, he died for your failures and he died so you can have real life, you have nothing to lose just see, pray with me” I thought well either Jesus and my dad were liars or it was 100% true so I prayed taking just a chance that maybe Jesus is real. I prayed “Jesus my life is messed up I don’t have much to live for please come into my life and change me.” the next few weeks the power of Jesus became real in my life the first Sunday I went to church was when it all became real. I had been praying all week about a major choice before me and God gave me a sign through the message pastor Brian Smith was preaching, it was so dead on what I was dealing with that I don’t think that message could have been meant for anyone else. The answer God gave that day proved that He was real and He was communicating to me about what I had been praying for. God confirmed that day that the prayer I prayed wasn’t in vain and I new then I had found my purpose, I found another way to die. I could have taken my life, or gone back to drugs, and alcohol to try and self destruct and die in vain but God not only gave me another way to die, he gave me another way to live. My old self was crucified with Christ and the life I was living, the only way I was living was by faith in the son of God. I found that the root to all depression and doubt was fear. After my crucifixion I no longer feared and God raised me to another way to live. Walking as a new man because of Jesus I was able to see mountains move in my life and found strength to demolish the strongholds of addiction. I was never the same because at the place of my crucifixion my fear died too. Yet over the years my life has got in the way and God had to pull me back to the place of my crucifixion to fix the broken parts in my mind and heart. What is fear keeping you from today? When your crucified with Christ you have nothing to fear because He is Lord over every moment and every breath. Do you ever wish you had amnesia, that you could live like yesterday never happen? No one wants pain, suffering, change or loss. If your like me then every day you want favor, everyday you want redemption . Yet to truly know the stages of God it all comes down to our lives being crucified with Christ and raised to life reinvented. This tour of faith in Christ is foolishness friends if Jesus has no power or resurrection. Though we can’t see Him we can see the power of His Holy Spirit in our lives after we are living and breathing in Him alone. Jesus wasn’t just a Jewish carpenter that was wrongfully murdered. God let Jesus die for everyone’s sins and raised Him from the grave three days later so that if anyone believes in Him they will find the way to life on earth and life after death. Though nothing can take away our salvation the thief will try and make life get in the way. When there’s just too much between us and the cross the only way to get back to that stage is to remember the first day. Running back to the stage of crucifixion we find Christ power of resurrection. At the place of our crucifixion new life is there, redemption is there, reinvention is there, repentance is there, purification is there. The power of God is there walking with us raising us back to the purpose He took hold of us for. All we lose to get back to this stage means nothing in comparison to the treasure we find here. The treasure we find here isn’t of this world, its not the bling bling, wedding rings, white picket fences in the Hollywood Hills or the elite suburbs of our cities, with money power and fame. Those are the false treasures that keep us in bondage never being satisfied and always craving more. No the treasure found at the cross isn’t of this world, the cross of Christ is divine, and its power brakes the bondage of this worlds discontentment, here the things of this world no longer become our treasure. The treasure we find at the cross is the place where our past can truly become nothing more then a good dream, or a nightmare. At the cross we can leave the past behind and press forward to our future by faith in the Son of God. The apostle Paul wrote again in the book of Romans “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all but the life he lives, he lives to God.” (Romans 6:6-10)Here on the this side of the cross we find the not only the miracle maker, we find the maker of the universe. On this side of faith we see the power of God doing the impossible, we find the savior of the world. Its here on this stop we see nothing but faith that can move mountains, power that can brake every stronghold, the power that makes loss gain, the power that sustains us in chaos, and guides us through aftermath, we see the wonder signs of God and we have the love that last beyond a lifetime. Because of Gods love for us Jesus died for our sins once for all and because He was raised back to life, death has no power over Him or us. The Highway To Your Destiny newest chapter for my new book "ROCKSTAR DEVOTION - LIFESTYLES OF SINNERS & SAINTS" WWW.MYSPACE.COM/ROCKSTARDEVOTION Isaiah 35 “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, Be strong, DO NOT FEAR; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” vs. 1-4 Next season in moving forward on the spiritual tour is expecting the favor of God to come. If we put limits on what God can do, if we make last season the be all the ends all, we are choosing to take a mindset of defeat putting God in a box he can not fit in. Our expectations become the highway to our future. Are your expectations of God’s favor too small? God can not fit in the expectations of the past He is bigger then our past. The box of your expectations can never be too big for God. The tour is for life in Rockstar devotion with the God that is the be all that ends all. Don’t put your expectations of the God that created the universe in a box when He has a stadium He promised to fill beyond capacity. Choosing to expect God’s favor over defeat puts us on the highway to our destiny and calling He has prepared for us in the next tour cycle. On September 17 1968 in my home town of Fayetteville Arkansas at a concert rally for then Arkansas Govern Rockefeller a young Bob Wootten of Paris Arkansas found the tour bus of favor and took the stage of divine retribution. Wootten had come to the rally because his favorite artist Johnny Cash was performing. Wootten had been learning Cash’s songs for years and as God’s favor would have it the Tennessee Three, Johnny Cash’s band, flight was delayed. I asked Wootten about this legendary moment he said “I was up by the stage, when the girl I was with got June Carter’s attention and said I could play all of Johnny’s songs. Johnny asked me to play something and from that day on I played just about every show Johnny Cash played for 35 years. I guess I was just at the right place at the right time.” Bob Wootten had been preparing for years learning Johnny Cash’s songs. Now in music industry standards if Wootten wanted to land a spot on the stage with Johnny Cash he would should have moved to Nashville hired an agent and let the agent see what he could do. The first night Wootten played with Cash he was in front of 8,000 people and he said his favorite show other then his first night with Cash was “A few years later in the early 70’s we were playing in Chic Republic, the show was sold out over 40,000 people came to see us play songs they loved in a language they did understand.” God can use anything to work in our favor, He can also work outside of industry standards because He doesn’t fit in any box. The tour bus of favor has divine retribution all over it and nothing can stand in Gods way when we align ourselves with Him waiting on the Highway of Redemption. Nashville Tennessee is known as “Music City USA” as the road signs say. The highways that circle around Nashville makes a big wheel around the city. Its easy to get around the city but the main problem with the highway circle in Nashville is that if you miss your exit you might have to go five miles down the road to turn around. While waiting on God to bring the tour bus of His favor, don’t get side tracked by the wrong exits. Trust that Jesus loves you so much that He is going to work in your favor as long as your taking the steps to preparing for Him to come. Its tempting to go down roads with less tribulation when waiting on God. Temptation could lead us to exits with less wind. The road of fear, or the road of intoxication could help get you off the cold highway of waiting for a moment, or the road of hiding could keep you cocooned off from the wind. Those roads won’t lead to divine retribution they will only postpone it, let Jesus be your strength in waiting, pray he steady’s the knees that give way, and gives you courage to not fear. Make it your goal to prepare for the tour on redemption highway, let hell nor high waters move you from waiting and seeking God’s favor of divine retribution. It can take a long time to get to the highway of redemption when we are still carrying the luggage of pride, bitterness, intoxication, jealousy, envy, slander, hate and past. If you haven’t already drop those heavy bags that are slowing you down drop them today. The tour bus of favor has all we need and there is no room for our baggage on that bus. When your on the highway of redemption your heading toward the stadium that God is going to fill beyond capacity when He comes with vengeance and divine retribution. Our stadiums of expectation are going to burst and gush beyond capacity so much that if a fire marshal comes like he has at many Music Hall concerts he would give a warning for being over double the capacity. Make your expectations bigger then a box, expectations of empty stadiums have more potential then confined limits we place on what God an do. Ask Jesus to keep your mind focused on His Highway of Redemption and to give you strength to stay off the dead end exits of temptation. When the tour bus of favor comes God promises that “Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert” Isaiah 35:6.Isaiah was a profit that preached to the Israelites around 700 B.C. If your like me then in a lot of ways you can relate to Israel. Israel had gotten off the tour with God and had taken their own paths of rebellion and temptation. The things they had were more important than seeking God. They worshiped the idols and the things that they made with their hands, they had become corrupted by the standards of their society and had forgotten the favor of God. Like Israel if you have Jesus in your heart then you are God’s chosen people. Like Israel when we get off the tour, God will bring obstacles in our paths to block us, brake us, and redirect us to the highway where we find His redemption. When Israel had tried all the wrong roads and saw that nothing could lead them to the highway of redemption other then the God who created them, they turned away from their failures, dropped their baggage, forsook all other roads. Though they had to wait for a moment God told them in this verse and throughout the book of Isaiah that his favor is coming. “And a highway will be there it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in the Way; wicked fools will not go about on it…….“But only the redeemed will walk there, and the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them and sorrow and sighing will flee away.” Isaish 35:810On this highway we begin to evolve even more as our maker reinvents us. Trust in this waiting that God’s promise stands, He isn’t joking when He comes it will be with all power, vengeance and divine retribution. The wrong roads won’t lead us to the stadium of divine retribution. As sinners we all take roads of temptation at times, but as new creations in Christ we have all access pass to the power that makes us saints giving us the strength to stand and not be moved from redemption highway. When you wait on the highway of redemption you align yourself with God letting all the wrong road signs fall to the side, forsaking everything else because your waiting on the tour that leads to the stadium of divine retribution. Personal Prayer: Today pray Isaiah 35 over the areas of your life. Ask God to give you strength, to steady your knees that give way, and give you courage to fear nothing but Him as you wait for his favor. Write your prayer to God today in light of Isaiah 35 Feel free to print off a copy for yourself. for commercial use of chapters or sections from "Rockstar Devotion -Lifestyles of Sinners & Saints" contact publisher at jjb3x@mtsu.edu Registered with Library of Congress : Copyright © 2009 by Jeremey J. Love Ballads Over Bullet Holes
What a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar. Proverbs 19:22
Understanding the foundation of unfailing love is the first stage to the sequel of loss. On the tour through life its almost certain that we all desire to truly find unfailing love. The sad reality is that we live in a world where love betrays, the only love that never fails or leaves is the perfect love found in our continued relationship with Jesus. Knowing God’s love is the sure foundation that will carry us through any and every loss. God’s love is the only love that can heal all wounds and it’s the only love that can fill all voids left behind from life losses. God promised to never leave us for forsake us even though many in this life will. Jesus love will never fail us. This sure foundation in the love God has for us is the well spring to finding love that last a lifetime. We all desire and seek out love relationships that we hope will never fail. The love relationships we choose to be apart of will determine much of our future because the other persons attitudes and lifestyle will affect how we live ours. What we surround ourselves with in many ways we will become. Before cultivating love relationships you hope will last, cultivate your knowledge of God’s love for you. God promises us unfailing love that last a life time and if we can grasp and hold steady to His love it can overflow through our lives and our relationships creating the change we want to see. Only this kind of love breaks the falsehoods of love in a world where it has become a part-time thing. The summer of 2008 I produced a concert with Warner Brothers Recording artist Jason Reeves along with Brendan James. Jason co-wrote with Colbie Caillat the smash hit song “Realize” from the double platinum album “Coco“. After the show was over Jason set outside The Music Hall parking lot and played “Realize” along with other songs he wrote with Caillat for the fans that stuck around. Through 2007 and 2008 “Realize” topped the radio charts through out the world. The song is very powerful because it displays the emotions of love. One of my hometown emo/pop bands, School Boy Humor even covered “Realize” for their freshmen EP released on legendary label Vagrant Records. Though love songs illustrate very powerful love that is built around an emotion, songs doesn’t have the strength to withstand the chaos of this world. Love that last a life time isn’t built on a song, emotion, movie or a moment, nor is it built on sex, money or loneliness, those are foundations built on sink holes. Maybe your searching for unfailing love or maybe you think you have found it. Reality of divorce is more common in our modern society then reality of love that lasts a life time. The main reason divorce is so common in our culture is because the love isn’t rooted in God’s love but rooted in sink holes that are sure to fail. Take caution in who and how you chose to love. Proverbs says our greatest desire is to know unfailing love but the Bible also tells us to guard our hearts for they are the wellspring to life. Getting caught up in the marriage bug can make you over look what is really before you. Don’t lie to yourself, just because you want to fill your loneliness with marriage doesn’t mean you wont be lonely and divorce a few years down the road. Waiting can make us all get impatient but taking second best only leads to more hardship. The crossroads of making the right choices begins with getting your love tank full of Gods love for you and understanding what you truly want. Jeremiah 6:16 says This is what the Lord says, Stand at the crossroads and look ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls. I produced the Jason Reeves concert for the girl that had stolen my heart but because I was still very wounded from the divorce I lived through a few years earlier, I was carrying around a lot of fear, bitterness, and lack of faith that love could really last a lifetime. Sadly the relationship started to erode, though it had been leading toward unity in my heart and God had built a solid foundation the spiritual attacks on what the relationship stole what we had worked so hard for. Our relationship ended before the show even happened. Though that relationship ended and the thief had done his damage the loss of that love caused many things to happen in me, it brought much healing and repentance. Poor choices in relationships from my past had put wounds in me the size of bullet holes. The love relationship I had before the Jason Reeves show had healed a multitude of hurts but the bullet wounds were still stuck in my heart and hadn‘t completely healed. God used the loss of that love to rip me apart pulling out the bullets of fear, bitterness and lack of faith.. Though the pain of loss had broken me, it brought me to that place again where I remembered the well spring of Gods love. The sure foundation of God’s love removed many sorrows from my past and began to fill the holes in my heart. Surviving on Gods love was the only thing that gave me strength. Though I was single for the first time in many years I knew that settling for another relationship would never fill the void that only God’s love could fill. I realized that I could never find another love to replace the love I desperately needed from God. This is the place where true healing starts. God’s love is perfect and abundant He loves us so much that he will do what ever it takes to redirects our paths to Him. Though the door may close on love from seasons past Gods love never fails and is always protecting us on this spiritual tour. This is what the Bible says about the well spring of God’s unfailing love Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. I Corinthians 13:4-8 Be it our families, lovers, or friends, Christ’s love must be at the core before love can be more than a disposable word. Many of you that read this come from divorced families while some of you haven’t seen divorce in your home, or maybe your like me and have lived through divorce yourself. In searching for love that lasts a lifetime hold steady to the truth that God’s love for you never fails. If you will take steps toward knowing God’s love He will meet you more then half way and fill you with the healing power of His perfect love. God won’t put a Band-Aid over your wounds he will cut out the infection and put the healing love over you. After you have let His love begin to heal you, the virtues of His love will start to overflow from you. If you can let the way you love others be a reflection of God’s virtues in I Cor. 13 then He will lead you to the right relationships, where He can build a foundation of love that isn‘t built on sink holes. As couples gather for their wedding ceremony they are celebrating their love, and confirming in public what has already happened in their hearts. As pastor for a wedding I have to sign the marriage license before the couples can take it to the state and confirm that they are married. In 2002 I pastured my first wedding ceremony in Ames, Iowa for my friends Travis and Wendy Pierce. Travis had just left his band Spoken right before they signed to Tooth and Nail Records to live with me in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I don’t know what Travis was thinking asking me to do his wedding but it was the fastest wedding anyone had ever been to. As I started the ceremony facing a church full of people I had never met, I forgot Wendy’s maiden name in the beginning of the service. I rushed through the message taking the total service into less than 10 minutes. I had a few people thank me because it was the fastest wedding they had ever been to. They had no clue that I rushed through it because I was the most nervous person in the room. Before the wedding day there should already be a foundation built on love from the couples hearts. The wedding itself is meant to be a picture of two people becoming one like Jesus says in Mark 10:9. But at the beginning of creation God, made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh. Just like a wedding ceremony the moment anyone ask Jesus to forgive them of their sins and come into their life God gives birth to their spirit and unites Himself to their hearts. That moment we become one with God it goes beyond death do us part, it last for eternity. Like the wedding ceremony, baptism in water is meant to be a picture of what has already happened inside the heart of a believer. It is confirmation in public that they have found the love of Jesus that last beyond a lifetime. For God so love the world that he gave his one and only Son, that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 I am sure none of you want to have a heartless marriage that is just a façade. Jesus didn’t die on the cross for our spiritual marriage relationship with Him to be a façade either. He died so we could truly know the power of Gods love . Jesus unites Himself with us when we confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts. His love will never leave us and is always faithful. When we begin to understand Gods love in view of not even death can part us, nothing can divorce us from His love then we can rest assured that we have found the love that will never die. Taping into this love ushers in the strength we need to carry us through any heartache.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels, nor demons, neither the present, nor the future, nor any power, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 8:38-39 Has something separated you and made you feel rejected by someone you love? Maybe you had a parent walk out of your life never to return, maybe the divorce of your parents made you feel separated from what was once home, or maybe the person you have been in a long-term relationship with just left you. Even though you might have lost those seasons of love, nothing can divorce, separate, foreclose, or bankrupt Gods love for you. Even if we turn away from God’s love its still there. The reason love has become a disposable word is because the foundations are not connected to the source of unfailing love. The wellspring of Gods unfailing love is what makes us lovely, and it is the only way we find strength to stand in the gap and show love without conditions. When those we love, be it lovers, spouses, family members or friends turn away there is nothing we can do to make them stay. The only way to fix the problem as far as it depends on us is to be the change we want to see and show them unconditional love. This reaction keeps us from playing games and making love a meaningless word. Yet with the wounds we have because of the loss, the only way we can respond as saints is by letting the knowledge of God’s unfailing love overflow through us. When our loved ones oppose us or attack us, if our love tank isn’t full of Christ love then we will be too wounded to respond as saints. Unhealed wounds cause us to take the side of giving up or even worse the sinner side in us makes us think we can get them back with revenge. That is all apart of the devils plan to still, kill and destroy , placing a red sea between family, love, and the relationships that God wants to use to eco his grace. God’s perfect unfailing love has the power to cover over a multitude of hurts, and the power to heal all wounds. Once we “Realize” the source of unfailing love and never let go of it, we will never be the same. This realization will give God room to overflow His love to us and create in us the change we desire to see. At this crossroads of the spiritual tour God’s love comes full circle and we gain the only love that never fails. In a world were love betrays God’s love never fails. Even if those you once loved don’t realize what you have realized chose today to fill your wounds with Gods love. God’s unfailing love can turn the tide of the spiritual battle shining a light of love that last and healing the damage the devil has done to your heart and even the hearts of others. Know that whatever ashes are left from your loss Gods love is going to turn those ashes into a crown of beauty if you let Him fill your bullet wounds with His unfailing love. The realization that you will never find another love like Gods is where love becomes real and last beyond a lifetime, where love becomes a full time thing, that always protects, always heals and never fails. Jesus died so everyone could experience the love of God. Take steps towards Gods love today and He will meet you beyond half way, He will fill you with His love so much that you will never be the same. Standing on the stage of God’s unfailing love turns our wounds into weapons of love that will become the change we want to see in the world where love betrays. This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for or sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. (I John 4:9-12) Personal Prayer: Jesus help me to see how much you love me. Even if you don’t give me what I want, help me to trust that you give me what I need. Please heal my wounds of loss with your unfailing love. Let your love overflow through me so I can show others the wellspring of your unfailing love.

SEASONS & CYCLES new chapter from Rockstar Devotion Lifestyles of Sinners & Saints coming 2009 by Jeremey J. Brown www.myspace.com/rockstardevotion
www.myspace.com/jbrownmedia
Moving past a season of aftermath can make us all feel like we are stuck in exile, a place where you don't want to be. Have you ever felt like your hands were tied? Just as bands tour on an album until its life cycle is finished, life changes in cycles too. The seasons year after year continue to cycle, from winter, spring, summer and fall. With each season come new memories, new songs, new faces, and new smells. As I set and write this chapter I am facing the middle of a dark cold winter. Outside it doesn't look hopeful it's a season of deadness, a season of decline. This year came with its seasons just like all the years before and it's about to cycle into a new year. There is nothing left of the season that just past but cold air and dead leafs. We can only hope the things and people we cherish will be in the new season but if not we must move forward into the season that is coming. According to professor of Music Business at Middle Tennessee State University and former RCA Records executive, Amy Macy, music has a life cycle too. "There are four stages with the traditional product life cycle: introduction, growth, maturity, and decline. As a product is adopted into use and as others learn of its availability, its sales will grow. Eventually, the product will hit maturity, level off in sales and decline. Either its maker will 'reinvent' the product as 'new and improved and evolve it in some manner, or it will no longer exist." (Amy Macy, Record Label Marketing, Focal Press 2006) Just has music has a life cycle so does the spiritual tour in life, the same old song might fade away, our 2008, 2007, 2006 years go by with the seasons. As last year fades away let the winter season reinvent you, let your maker evolve you into something better then you were before. Let the aftermath of chaos show you what really matters and be another stop on the tour leading you to what God has called you to next. In the bible you will find a story of a man who hated Christians he was a religious leader of his day and he had many Christians put to death for their faith. One day this guy named Saul was redirected, he ran into Jesus while on the road and he was blinded. After that day he gave his life to fallowing and living life through Christ on the spiritual tour. After God changed Saul's life he changed his name to Paul and he was never the same. The old Saul was gone and the new man had come, God evolved and reinvented him. Paul stayed on the spiritual tour with Christ until he was killed for his faith. In his letter to the church in Philippi he said "Not that I have already obtained all this, or already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do. Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus"(Philippians 3:12-14) Exile seasons of cold dark winter force a decision will we make the most of the place we find ourselves or will put it off again keeping us from enjoying the season that's on its way. Remember to not let any vice weather it be, bitterness, drunkenness, fear, or anything else stand in your way in the next season. God is always there to meet us and speak to us weather it be in the darkness or light, drunkenness or sobriety. He is the lion and the lamb, there to break us until we let him be leader of our lives just like he did with Paul. If we make our ears available to him we will find peace and rest for our souls and minds. Seasons of life change in cycles, God gives us things weather it is careers, bands, music venues, love relationships, or close friends he gives us these verbs to lead us and shape us forward. Holding onto the things we long for from seasons past for too long will keep us from preparing and evolving in the new season just like a band that lives on a one hit wonder. Think of your favorite artist and the cycles of their careers. Some faded away, and some might still be going strong as they reinvented themselves. I like to think of the career of Johnny Cash because he is an artist that has stood the test of time. He has reinventing himself for each decade and reaching people of every age and musical genre. If you have seen the move "Walk The Line" you can tell that Johnny Cash was a sinner & a saint reinventing his career and eventually his faith. I recently had the opportunity to interview Bob Wootten, lead guitarist for Johnny Cash band The Tennessee Three. When I asked him how they continued to evolve their career over the decades, reaching every age group and musical genre he said "When I joined the band in 1968 Johnny had cleaned up we didn't drink or use drugs we always had our families to think about, it helped us stay focused. ---We weren't afraid to be different we were always thinking outside the box" (more of this interview in future chapters of Rockstar Devotion)
As the seasons of your life cycle choose to prepare in the present and pray for the future. Let go of the cold air and dead leafs of what God brought to your last season and trust that your best life is coming in the next. Wait and ask God for patience in the things you hope will be in the next cycle. Ask God to lead you and give you signs that show you the right roads for the next tour. Sure the foundation is there from the great things of seasons past and God can bring it back if he chooses but forget what is behind you and except what is in front of you. Press on toward the season God has prepared for you to live in. In the winter time of the spiritual tour let God reinvent you for the new touring season. Just as musician's tour on an album until it has finished its cycle let the spirit of Christ and His word be your A&R Department. He is the gatekeeper to your purpose and future, trust in him and he will reinvent you as the new season is coming. Jesus promised "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."(Matthew 11:28-29) . Here is just a few more promises to stand on from the bible. "I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. I will satisfy the priest with abundance and my people will be filled with my bounty, declares the Lord"( Jeremiah 31:14) "This is what the Lord says: 'Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears for your work will be rewarded, declares the Lord. They will return from the land of the enemy. So there is hope for your future. declares the Lord" (Jeremiah 31:16-17) "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm" (Joel 2:25) Do you feel like you lost a few more battles then you have won? Have you been knocked down and let the locust swarm you? The key to success on the spiritual tour is getting up one more time then you get knocked down. Look at the life of one of Jesus disciples Peter, the guy that is in the gospel. Peter was a sinner and saint after walking closely with Jesus preaching the gospel seeing and knowing Jesus, Peter at Jesus death said he didn't know who Jesus was. Peter felt like a failure he denied Jesus after walking closely to him but it was his response to his failures that lead him to impact his world and made him a saint not just a sinner. It's our response after the seasons of chaos, aftermath, and even the season of greatness that either reinvents us or causes us to no longer exist. Standing on the stage of our faith that God can bring us to a new season even when all we can see is dead leafs of the season past will ushers in the new cycle. Look at the response of this dude Ephraim from this chapter of Jeremiah. "I have surely heard Ephraims moaning: 'You disciplined me like an unruly calf, and I have been disciplined. Restore me, and I will return, because you are the Lord my God. After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast, I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth."(Jeremiah 31:18-19) What ever the seasons of yesterday were let them be tours of the past. Turning back to them gives nothing but dead leafs and bitter cold air. Choose today to let the cycles of years past go and let your maker reinvent you; evolve you into a better person more prepared for the seasons that are coming. In this evolving time God wants to change your habits, your desires, your goals, your style and after he has reinvented you he will change your entire life. Trust God one day at a time and know that this week holds seven days you have never lived before, so enjoy them and make the most of them. Just like we moved out of the season of aftermath with only faith in our hands use God's promises in the Bible to keep you warn on the dark cold winters of this spiritual tour. Stand on the promises that a new touring season is coming. Spend this down time to prepare, and memorizes God's promises in the bible. Write down the bible verses God speaks to your heart, keep them close by so when you feel tempted to take steps back to the chaos you can stand of those promises and avoid more destruction. If you haven't let the vices go try to replace those vices with knowing God. As one of my best friends and former lead singer of the band The Wedding said "You got to get get over yourself a little to see the grass is green" I look at it this way maybe x marked the spot for last year, maybe summer made so much sense. Maybe you feel last year was the greatest days you've seen, the greatest friends you've had and greatest lover you've known, know that you have not even begun to live your best life yet. Maybe you have to get over the dead leafs from last summer a little to see that Spring is coming with a new purpose. There is the key we have to get over the past forgetting what's behind us, the great moments of Gods grace, and the heartaches of loss to see how great the new season is currently developing. God is coming He promised. You just might find everything you have prayed for in this new season of cycle but will you be ready for it? O GOD, THE AFTERMATH is the new chapter of ROCKSTAR DEVOTION - LIFESTYLES OF SINNERS & SAINTS, that will fallow the chapter TASTE THE CHAOS this is a finished chapter but unedited if you couldn't tell.
O God, the aftermath of destruction we face after chaos is over. No one wants to face the aftermath of chaos weather its from our own poor choices, the choices of others, or our choices that seem to be right from our hearts. The reality is the aftermath hurts and it can even hurt worse then the chaos we lived through. In the aftermath of chaos we all can feel bitterness, pain and fear, that's normal. Facing the sober reality of what has happened can pull us into wholes of despair. Have you lived through sleepless nights, wondering where is God. What ever your aftermath is, weather its, loss of a lover, a friend, career, or something you really wanted, don't let your feelings keep you from experiencing God's grace and blessings in the present or in the future. This is the time real faith kicks in or sinks, its up to us.
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />.. ..
"O God, The Aftermath" is actually the title to an Grammy nominated album by Christian metal core band Norma Jean. Just days before Norma Jean released "O God The Aftermath" I produced a sold out show for them at The Music Hall. "O God, The Aftermath" was the milestone of Norma Jean's career so far, it lead them to major international tours, with Ozzfest, Vans Warped Tour and many others and it gave them their first Grammy nomination. They could not see how great a success "O God, The Aftermath" would be just days before its release in 2005. Yet they were hopeful even though this album was their first release without their founding vocalist Josh Scogin. Norma Jean found their new vocalist, one of my long time friends Cory Putman, less then a year before they recorded the album. With the new vocalist in a new season they stepped into a stage of success like they had never seen before, success they had only dreamed of. The title fits so well with the emotion after a season of chaos. Just as this album took Norma Jean's career to greater levels, know that this aftermath is a stepping stone to bring us closer to God. Its in this place we are to move forward on the stage of faith and step into our future purpose God created us for.
....
....
Let faith drowned out the bitterness, pain and fear so you don't have future regrets. Of all the choices your faced with in the aftermath, don't let bitterness have its way in your heart. Bitterness is an Alcoholic, my bitterness has done more damage to my life then Alcohol. Bitterness is a faith killer and can lead to regret. I thought because I didn't drink anymore I was safe from self destruction but bitterness does more damage then any drink or any drug, it can even lead us to binges of chaos.
Bitterness is something we all have to let go of before it destroys Gods goodness in our lives. If we don' t let it go and trust God it will come to a head, stilling and killing our joy and even the joy of those we love, just like alcohol and drug addictions. Don' t let Bitterness or any other vice keep you from the things that matter most cause in the end when your bitterness is gone, when the buzz wears off and the hangover comes, all you can taste is regret. Trust me I've been there and it doesn't mean God's grace in our life is over it just means we have to start over in and through Him.
....
....
....
Ephesians 4: 30-32
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other , just as in Christ God forgave you.
....
....
Starting over begins when we choose to believe that Jesus has a new purpose and new tour for our lives today. Most the time God will use chaos to bring us to a broken state where we realize nothing can make the aftermath pass but Him. The Bible Talks about Jesus as the Lion and The Lamb He will devour us like a lion, He wounds us, so he can heal us as gentle as a lamb. The one of the last books of the Old Testament, the book of Hosea from the Holy Bible illustrates this
....
"Like a lion I will devour them;" Hosea 13:8
....
"I will heal their waywardness and love them freely for my anger has turned away from them. I will be like the dew to ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />....Israel.... he will blossom like a lily;" Hosea 14:4-5
....
After the biggest show of my career with Story Of The Year was over and the ....Civic.. ..Center.... was empty all the people and bands had left. The place was trashed and the barricade lay out broken on the ground in hundreds of pieces. I knew I had made it through the night but it was going to take a lot of work to pick everything up and get it back in order. I said I was never going to that level again for a tour. I was so over whelmed with stress that I could hardly move. Again this barricade was so much more then broken metal it was the story of my life in 2006.
....
Has your life ever felt like a venue that's been trashed by a thousand metal fans at a sold out concert?. If the barricade that once held your life together has collapsed, look past the fog of the moment and stand on the stage of faith.. In this season of the aftermath don't loose hope just yet. God is there and he has all the power to fight your spiritual battles in the aftermath of destruction. He promised remember so if we have nothing else to hold onto after the chaos has done its damage, we have God's word and His spirit to guide us. Pain and suffering are Gods tools to bring us to the point where we know we can't fix it or make things happen with out God's grace. Its the point where we see that only through faith can we find his grace again. He wounds us so he can heal us.
....
"They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble" (Holy Bible, Jeremiah 31:9)
....
....
....
The typical idea of a Rockstar is someone who lives hard and plays hard, sex drugs and rock and roll is the old saying. If you have gone through a season that has brought an over load of chaos let it be water under the bridge. Its time seek peace of mind and restoration of your soul. Check yourself into spiritual rehab with Rockstar Devotion connecting not to methods for healing, but connecting to the God who holds all the power to heal all wounds. Don't be overwhelmed by this day or season, look at the big picture of your life, choose to fail forward and grasp the hand of God and trust him to fix you. While wrestling with what our lives have become as half sinner & half saint on this spiritual tour, lets choose to pick up faith in the unseen God and leave everything else behind in the aftermath. Every day is a new day on the spiritual tour of Rockstar Devotion.
....
....
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" (Holy Bible, I Corinthians ..5:17..)
....
Personal Prayer: Jesus, help me rise above this moment and see the big picture of the life you have planned for me. Give me faith to see beyond the life I lived yesterday and know that you have greater things in my future. Give me more faith to move to the next tour. As I face this reality God please help me have faith that you can to the impossible that you can part the ..Red Sea.. in the aftermath of my past. Please give me more faith and guidance out of the aftermath and help me trust that today is a new day in you.

TAsTE tHE cHAOS All Over Again
Taste of chaos
....
Have you ever felt like your living in a nightmare? Have you lived through a season of darkness where everything has been broken once then broken again like your nightmares have come true? Have you ever been down trying to find a place to hide? Trust me I know the feeling, through the darkness and chaos, I've hid in a lot of places, I've hid in bars, ....
I've hid in churches; I've hid in my work, trying to drown out the darkness with everything other then God. When we finally dissolve and brake and our walk becomes a crawl broken before God He meets us where we are and promises to move us through this darkness. ....
Why we go through spiritual battles I'll never know but when going through the chaos of dark times seek Gods help in the spiritual battle. God is there He Promised. ....
....
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,.. ......who.. ......have been called.. ......according to his purpose" (Holy Bible Romans 8:28)....
....
The Holy Spirit of God is there to guide us through these darkest days of chaos leading us to living out our purpose through him. Dark times can not steal our soul or salvation and we have to fight to keep it from stealing our joy. God says lay down our lives and fallow him through the dark it wont' be our last chance to see his grace in our lives.....
....
But seek ye first the .Kingdom.. of ..God.... , and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Holy Bible, Matthew ..6:33..).....
....
....
....
....
One of the major international tours for the past four years has been the Taste of Chaos tour. It was started by Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman in 2004. . Taste Of Chaos tour hosted bands like The Used, My Chemical Romance, and Underoath its first year with over 185,000 people attending the tour according to Pollstar Magazine. With a power house tour the first season Taste of Chaos picked up a sponsorship from Rockstar Energy Drinks for 2006, featuring bands like Deftones, and Story Of The Year. Story Of The Year had major radio air play and Mtv's Total Request Live hits with "Until The Day I Die" and "Anthem Of Our Dying Day" and their first album was certified gold after sales of over 500,000.
....
January 2006 I produced a show with Story Of The Year, Everytime I Die and From First Two Last, the week before the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour kicked off. The show was promoted by all the local press, local MTV, Radio stations, and newspapers gave me 100% promotion on the tour for free. Over 1100 people came out to the ....Civic.. ..Center.... that night and the show finished a success but it wasn't as easy as I had planned. ....
A Barricade was apart of the tour, it was a must, I was told two days before the show by the tour manager. After contacting the police department the day before the concert, I was advised to block off the stage with lumber and bolt it to the floor to suffice as a barricade.....
10:00am Story Of The Year loaded into the ....Civic.. ..Center.... to find a wood barricade placed in front of the stage. Story Of The Years team didn't think this would work so at ..11:00am.. I found a steel barricade in ....Tulsa.. ..Oklahoma..... ....Tulsa.... was four hours round trip so with the help of some friends they went out to get the barricade. Five minutes later I get a call saying I need someone to drive a band member to the Hospital. One of the supporting bands on the tour, Everytime I Die had been playing with pellet guns and one of the guys shot their tour manager Biggie in the eye unintentionally. I had someone take him to the hospital and a few hours later he returns with a temporary patch over his left eye. ..5:30pm.. my friends Drew and Brandon arrive with the 2000 pound barricade and the show will go on. ..6:30pm.. doors open and 1100 people fill the room. I take the stage to introduce the bands and promote my future events, the show is going as I had planned, so I thought. ....
..7:30pm.. From First To Last is halfway through their show when the barricade starts moving and bending because of all the people pushing on it. The tour staff stop the show and say they won't finish without a barricade. I didn't know what to do neither did the tour staff. I felt like the biggest show I had ever produced was a failure. I couldn't pull it off and I started to get sick and couldn't breath, I thought I was having a heart attack. So I left the pressure and the stress and walked around the building, praying that God would open the doors and help the band see that all we needed to do was move the half broken barricade. Twenty minutes go by, I go backstage and look out to the crowd and see the barricade is gone its out side. What a relief, I ask the tour staff what changed their minds they said that they called their manager and he said the stage is tall enough ( six feet ) to do without the barricade. God answers our prayers.....
After a taste of chaos all day long I felt God had open the heavens and put his hand of protection on me and that show.....
"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion which cannot be shaken but endures forever as mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds His people" Psalm 125
....
....
In the middle of that show I sure felt shaken, the show was chaos, it almost bombed because of a barricade. In that moment I thought it was one of the worst days of my life but as I prayed God open doors to make the show a success in the chaos. That day seemed to be the story in my life in 2006 (or story of my year) lots of chaos lots of broken stuff, I had some of my close friends turn their backs on me, I went through heart brake after a heavy divorce, I lost my home, I lost my credit, and a lot more. The barricade of my life as I new it collapsed and the hardest part was the more I would seek Jesus the more the chaos would come. Over the past few years while working on these book moments of chaos have come and gone and returned again leaving me with broken peaces of what once was. The broken barricade that laid outside the ....Civic.. ..Center.... was a replica of what was about to happen in my life. ....
We have all had a taste of chaos at some point. Weather its chaos because of poor choices or chaos that's outside of our control God promises if we turn to Him in the Chaos he will surround us and keep us from being destroyed. Through it all it's the faith in the darkness that surrounds us even when we feel like everything we knew before is gone, everything we believed to be true gone. When the barricade of your life brakes and you feel like the show is going to be over there is only one thing left to do seek the grace of Christ. Think I'm kidding then try it Putting our trust in Jesus through all the chaos leads us to more stable ground, When we turn to Jesus he comes in and moves the broken barricade and the show goes on better then before.. Not always like we planned but better then we planned. God doesn't always give us what we want. He doesn't always take away our suffering, but He promised to guide us through it. Psalm 119 "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path"....
We have to stand and believe that in the end even if our walk at moments becomes a crawl it counts for something. Maybe you feel you have done so much wrong it out ways the good don't let that over come your mind. God is there to give us all the light of grace to get out, if you feel sick because of your suffering what ever it is, don't let those demons surrounding you win. Ask God to win the spirituals battle you're facing. Today stand up in this chaos believe, trust and speak to God moving one step closer to the light on the stage of faith each night. Let his power be made perfect in your weakness ....
....
"My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."(Holy Bible, 2Corinthians 12:9) ....
....
Personal Prayer: Lord Jesus I need you so bad, please lift me out of the chaos I face everyday and clear my heart, soul and mind so I can seek you on stable ground. Speak your word to my heart so I have something hold onto. Give me hope today through your words.

The End
Well friends this is it. The Music Hall as we all have known it for the pasted 10 years is over starting October 5 2008. The Music Hall will be moving into a new format for producing concerts. We will continue to do shows out of the Rogers Music Hall location 2850 W. Walnut Rogers Arkansas, starting with the 479 Halloween Show OCt. 31 2008
and we will be working on new locations to produce bigger tours in Fayetteville starting first of the year. If your are in a band from the 479 and would like to play one of these last shows please send us a message.
This has been a ruff call for me to make, but with continued losses and a lack of support from local bands or mainly the lack of local bands we are forced to move forward. The new format will be focused on major national tours and fewer local band events. We will be producing two shows per month out of the Rogers location and at least 1-2 bigger tours per month out of the new joint location TBA in 2009 for the Fayetteville Market.
When I started The Music Hall Entertainment my goals were to
1. be a safe place for all ages to enjoy life music,
2. take local bands to the next level,
3.produce concerts with major national artist,
4. to honor God in the way I lead my business.
These goals reach beyond any building and as we move forward with The Music Hall as a concert brand these goals will lead the directions we take.
I remember the first time I came to the music hall back when it was clunk, the show was Spoken with ghotti hook in 2000. I never thought it would be mine, over the years my greatest memories were my first sold out show in the hall with Swedish rock band Blindside, the night The Wedding (Easier Said) got signed to Rambler Records, and the two nights Underoath played in 2006 and got the music hall on the cover of Pollstar Magazine. A lot of stuff has come out of almost nothing it makes me think of Take It Backs song that has the course "start something that last forever". Remember your greatest moments in The Music Hall and if you have time come by one of the shows before its put out of its misery.
On that note I would like to leave you, with this.
Knowing Jesus is the start for being apart of the only thing that last forever when everything else fades away this unseen God is there leading us to new places in life in this world and the next. Starting something that last forever starts with faith in the unseen God.
