Current mood:  thoughtful
Category: Music
Hey Friends! It's been a while since we've sent an update.

We returned from our month-long trip abroad on September 15th. The experience was fantastic, and we were thrilled to travel to Ireland, England, Brussels, The Netherlands and France, playing our music and promoting "Wake the Hero." The response was generous and appreciative, and we're already planning our trip back to the Netherlands for the Fall 2010.

Upon returning, we submitted our newest song "Gravity" for consideration in the New York Songwriter's Circle Contest. Last week we found out we were picked as a Top 12 Finalist in the contest! This is a huge honor, and the grand prize winner receives $10,000, a Gibson guitar, recording studio time, and a chance to perform live on the NBC New York Station. The winners will be determined by a distinguished panel of music industry professionals and musicians, including John Oates. The winner will also perform alongside Mr. Oates as a part of "Stories Behind the Songs."

We are hoping for our friends and fans to come out to see this LIVE performance at the Bitter End on November 18th, starting at 8pm. All 12 finalists will be performing, and we could sure use the cheers and support!
You can find out more info and purchase tickets here:

And lastly, if you're interested in hearing the rough demo of our song "Gravity," we've posted it on our myspace page.
It's being mixed by Bryan Cook, currently working with Beck (one of our favorites!) and we'll be posting the finished mix very soon.

Hope this email finds all of you well, and we hope that we will see you at one of our upcoming shows!

Hello Barnaby Bright friends!

Okay, so here's the deal.
We saved our pennies and nickels and made our first-ever full length CD, called Wake the Hero.
It took a year of hard work and dedication, and now we have an album that we're really proud of.
We paid for it ourselves, promoted it ourselves...did everything....by ourselves. No label. No management. No booking agent. No rich uncle who has a soft spot for handing out cash to his favorite starving niece's Indie band. We are totally, completely, unequivocally and undeniably ON OUR OWN.
So what does this mean for Barnaby Bright, now that we are ready to hit the road on August 19th, and spend a month spreading our music to the rest of the world?
"Ouch." (That was my wallet speaking).

So as much as I hate soliciting people for money (and being solicited for money by OTHER people) this is the moment where I have to say: "If you believe in our music...or you have a friend who you think might like it, or a co-worker that's looking for a way to support independent music, or a rich uncle who has a soft spot for handing out cash to his favorite starving neice's or nephew's Indie band (but doesn't actually HAVE one, so he's looking to help someone else's) then please, keep reading below and decide how much you think you're able to help.

A week in Ireland, a week in the UK, 10 days in the Netherlands and 4 days in France. And though we will be sleeping on floors, trains (and who knows, maybe park benches), this month-long experience of gypsy, vagabond-living will be such a growing experience for Barnaby Bright.

Thank you for all your support so far, and for helping us make onto the next exicting chapter of our journey.

Happy Barnaby Bright!

Hello Friends,

As you may already know today is the longest day of the year and marks the official beginning of summer! In days of old, when the rhythm of life was largely shaped by the Church, this day was known as Barnaby Bright, for the summer solstice corresponded with the feast day of Saint Barnabas.

"Barnaby Bright! Barnaby Bright! The longest day, the shortest night!"

In honor of this special day, and as a thank you to all of our friends and fans, we are making our new album "Wake the Hero" available as a FREE DOWNLOAD!!!

To download Barnaby Bright's "Wake the Hero" just go to:

www.barnabybright.bandcamp.com

Simply enter an email address (it will not be shared!) and the link will be sent to you. If you already have the album (thank you!) we hope you will take this opportunity to help spread the word. Just click the 'Share' tab and you can instantly send 'Wake the Hero' to your friends and family via Email, IM, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, or LiveJournal.

Also wanted to let you know that we have a show coming up on July 1st at Rockwood Music Hall as part of the Rebel Spirit Music series. It will be a duo show, and we've been working hard to make it really special. Expect some surprises! Also on the bill is the amazing Philadephia-based artist, Peasant. www.myspace.com/Peasant

And lastly, we have been lining up some shows in the UK and Europe at the end of the summer! So far we have gigs in London, Liverpool, Dublin, Brussels, Cologne and Amsterdam. This has been a long time dream of ours and we are very excited, hopeful, and scared shitless! Wish us luck.

Have a great summer, and we hope to see you soon!

Wishing you the very best,
Nathan and Rebecca Bliss of Barnaby Bright

ABOUT THE SERIES

Second Sundays at Rockwood Music Hall, which debuted in February 2008, is
a live monthly interview series that illuminates and celebrates the
songs, stories and speculations of some of today's most vital
performing songwriters. The interviews, held in Rockwood's warm and
inviting space, connect audience to artist in a truly unique way, as
they include candid, thoughtful dialogues on each artist's journey, all
the while offering firsthand insight into their musical mind's eye. Hosted with a refreshing blend of intelligence and humor by
New York City-based singer-songwriter Danielle Gasparro, the interviews also address the subject of what is required to live in the world today as someone who chooses to not only follow their musical bliss, but perhaps even try to make a buck at it. As a whole, the interviews aim to not just
entertain and enlighten, but to inspire.

An intimate performance by each artist is also incorporated into the
event, as they take to the mic spontaneously throughout the interview.

Past guests have included: Madeleine Peyroux,
Jonathan Spottiswoode, Richard Julian, Krystle Warren, Adam Levy, Amber
Rubarth, Elizabeth Ziman (of elizabeth and the catapult) and Pete and J.

hey friends,

just wanted to let you all know that since the beginning of the year, we've been doing some commercials for NBC television shows. Most recently, our song 'Save Me' premiered during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in a commercial for the show ER.
someone posted the commercial on youtube if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnqzJfg0QUg

In the meantime, we've got our nose to the grindstone finishing up the CD. Happy September, everybody!
