Graphic Design Club (4:30-6 p.m.)

Learn to not just take pictures but make them.

This course will teach you the artistic beauty of Photoshop, MySpace and Illistrator. Come learn about whitespace, focal images and balance. By the end, not only will you will be making professionally looking posters but you will have begun to learn the primary foundation for a career in graphic design.

The Rocketown Zine (4:30-6 p.m.)

Do you have a voice waiting to be heard? Rocketown Zine is created, edited and published completely by students.

Teens will be able to interview local and mainstream bands, write in-depth news and feature stories and express their passionate views on music, entertainment, politics and more. The magazine works as a voice for the youth while teaching writing and journalism techniques.

Hot Topics (4-5)

This is a community discussion group, led by a listened counselor, to talk about the issues facing teens.

Topics to be discussed include:

Self-Esteem
Anger Management
Bullying
Time Management
Stress Management
Nutrition
Exercise
Cliques
Money Management
Parents Just Don't Understand

BBoys Breakdancing (7-9 p.m.)

Come learn the 1970's inspired South Bronx dance style that fuses funk, hip-hop and prolonged breaks.

We will teach you a display of power moves, top and downrocks and climactic freezes and suicides. Ultimately, however, you will learn to define yourself through your own style in this generally unstructured and highly improvisational dance.

This group is meant to be a dialogue. An opportunity for everyone to share their story. There is no preaching. No judgment. Just individuals seeking God.

Girls Group (Next meeting: Oct 14)

Meets every other Tuesday

Think getting coffee, picnics in the park, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and then talking about it. It is about making connections, being honest and listening to each other.

You know girls doing girlie stuff.

Skate Church (Tuesdays 7-9)

We skate, talk a little Bible, play some games and skate some more.

Everything is free.

Enough said. Get to church bro'.

Book Club (Thursdays 4-5)

First Book: We are starting with Vampires!
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer will be our first book.

Club Description: Are you a closet reader? Do you sit under your covers, late at night, because you can't can't stop reading Steainbeck, Sallinger, Kerouak ? Or maybe you prefer the company of more modern marvels: Meyer, Rowling or Paolini.

It's okay. Reading is not just for the Estels, Mabels and Junes anymore.

Come join Rocketown's Reading support group. Your addiction will be fed, you will find others just like you and you will read, discuss and READ some more!

Plus you might be blessed with Audra Davis' scrumptious and delectable baked goods. She really is a great baker, you know?!

Run Club (Thursdays 5-6)

We run because running is what we do.

Meet at Rocketown dressed and ready. We will run downtown and throughout the city. This is open to anyone willing to sweat. Hardcore runners, joggers, speed walkers, toddlers learning to walk—everyone.

As the year goes on we might choose to meet at Centennial Park or other locations throughout the city.

Recycling Club (Mondays 5-6)

Tired of seeing the world destroyed? Or maybe you just want to save the whales? Either way, join Rocketown Recycles foo'!

This isn't some wussy Captain Planet, stick your Coke in a box, Recyclying Club. We are going to get dirty, make a difference and recycle some serious junk. Each week we will gather paper, plastic and other unmentionables from roughly 1300 individuals at Rocketown.

The impact will be immeasurable.

This club will also include monthly classes and speakers on how to be more environmentally friendly.

Music Appreciation: School of Rock (3-4 p.m.)

Do you love to make good music? Well, maybe it is time you learned what makes great music!

Learn from best instructors imaginable: The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones along with today's current rock, punk and pop heavy hitters. By the end, not only will you know what makes a great song but we will also teach you how to write your next great wonder.

Tutoring with Leigh (3-5)

Come get smart.

Leigh is a super smart and way personable High School Junior from Brentwood. She loves Rocketown for the music but wants an opportunity to give back. Whether you are looking for homework help, one-on-one tutoring, or just someone to draw smiling faces on your assignments, Leigh is your gal.

She also loves, loves, loves Spanish. So get your español on.

Screenprinting (5-6)

Tired of plain American Apparel shirts? What something to spice up that grey hoodie? Or maybe you want to start designing your own posters? It is time to start thinking screenprinting.

Screenprinting is a printing technique that uses ink blocking stencils and squeegees to transfer ink onto canvases, clothing and stickers. With it you can design your own t-shirts, posters, or whatever else you want to implant an image onto. So come join us, test out your artistic side, and see what you can create.

Rhyme Lab: Beginner (5-7)

Come learn to rap, rhyme, record and perform.

Rhyme lab is an interactive creative experience that allows kids to express their ideas through song and rap. The class will teach both the lyrical and technical skills of hip-hop and rap music while allowing teens to record tracks and present a final performance.

This is an open space; a transparent community; a group of individuals trying to piece together the day-to-day. It is a place to talk about your faith, our lives and how it all connects. It is where we listen, love and speak of grace. There is no preaching. Just individuals praying for each other. Some weeks we actually open the Bible.

Skate Church (7:30-9:00)

We skate, talk a little Bible, play some games and skate some more.

Everything is free.

Rocketown Photography teaches the fundamentals and styles of photography while challenging youth to see the artistic beauty in everyday life. We will take photos of music shows, skateboarding action and downtown Nashville. The class is designed to be a form of digital and artistic expression.

Tony Czech will serve as the class's instructor. Tony is a Nashville local who is known for his use of natural light, love for the outdoors and knack for adventure. Some of his clients include: Teva, Urban Climber and Colorado Kayak.

Fashion and Label Design (4:30-6:00)

Rocketown Fashion and Label Design allows teens to express their unique fashion style while providing a platform to communicate their creativity. The class studies current fashion trends, allows youth to design their own clothing line and teaches both marketing and business. Rocketown's Fashion and Design is intended to be both a creative outlet and life skills course.

Photography (5-6)

If you were given the keys to Rocketown what would you do? Here is your chance.

The Rocketown Rep program teaches kids to be leaders, gives them ownership of Rocketown and allows them to dream, organize and implement what they would like the youth center to become. It is a leadership forum that gives students the freedom to create programming, activities and events. Come join the Rocketown Rep Team and start taking control!

• The Booking Committee (Next meeting: October 13)

Meets Second Monday of the month 4:30-6:00. Meets monthly, but tasks are assigned weekly.

Do you want to have a say in who plays at Rocketown? Have you always dreamed of having Mister Rogers's Left Loafer play Rocketown? Or do you want to scream, "take a chance Rocketown, play a new genre!"?

Well here is your chance to be that voice. We will seek out Rocketown's next big band. We will conduct surveys, search the world of Myspace, and, eventually, starting booking Nashville's best. Come take a chance. This is your chance to step beyond the world of crazy, obsessed fan and become a part of the show.

• Driven: The Teen Rocketown Art Store (Special Work Orientation: September 30)

Meets second Tuesday of the month.
Store hours also required.


Would you like to run your own business? The Rocketown vintage art and clothes store allows teens to do just that.

Students will organize, market and run their very own business. And if done right--get paid for doing so. Ultimately, the store's success and failure is completely dependent on the work, effort and creativity of the kids.
