OI OI!

Update time!

1) We have finally sold our last remaining copies of the Souvaris 2009 European Tour CDR "GET MARRIED". Multi-thanks to everyone who bought a copy. We hope you enjoy it. If not, they make great frisbees.

2) souvaris.com is DEAD! Long live souvaris.blogspot.com!
Snazzier! Leaner! Meaner! Even more crap jokes and bad puns! Your new source for all things Souvaricentric, including the NOW FULLY FUNCTIONING ONLINE SHOP! Dig?

3) We are well under way writing for our third album. We've even stared preliminary recording. As ever, no titles have been finalised or even thought of. However, we can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that we have have several working titles, including the future klassix:

"Doorbell Song"
"Fake Five"
and
"New, NEW Song"

Original huh...?

In all seriousness though, the new stuff is shaping up really, really well and we're all feeling pretty gosh-darn excited about how it's all sounding. We shall certainly keep you all posted on the latest developments as and when they unwrinkle.

4) We are now expecting the release of our split LP with Bordeaux's finest and superest groove-mathers SINCABEZA to be some time in the Autumn months. Artwork is more or less done, mastering is a hairs' breadth away from completion, and we shall finally be able to breathe a collective sigh of relief when the bloody thing finally rears it's somewhat belated head.

5) A few tentative live appearances may possibly be in the offing, including a potential Autumnal tour of the UK and a show in a carpark in Hackney. We aint nuffin' if not adventurous! Details as and when y'all.

Right, that's quite enough of that.

Love as ever,

SVRS

So we're back from our little jaunt through Holland, Belgium and France. What can I say, other than good times aplenty were had by all. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, to all the rockin' good bands we shared stages with, to those who put us up, fed, watered and generally treated us like undeserving kings, and especially to those of you who came to a show, said hello and showed any sort of enthusiasm towards our efforts. We couldn't have done it without you! Photos from our adventures will be forthcoming in dribs and drabs, so keep 'em peeled.

And while we're on the subject, we have a handful of remaining copies of our Tour CDR left. Details below:

1. A Summer Spent Observing Green Leaves 2009
A new version of a track from our first album, recorded especially for this release.

2. Quit Touching My Ass (Apalusa remix)
The title, she says it all!

3. "................"
The title, she says nothing! Because we haven't got one yet. New track from the next album!

4. The Yound Ted Danson (live)
Rollicking disco fun, recorded at The Buffalo Bar in Londinium, 2005.

If you would like to possess one of these pretty limited beauties, get in touch via dlayton(AT)fastmail(DOT)fm
and we'll hook you up. FIVE! ENGLISH! POUNDS! is all we ask. But be warned: we only have a few left and so it will be on a strictly First-Come-First-Served basis.

More news soon regarding our website, future plans and our still-forthcoming split release with the lovely SINCABEZA.

Until then, you plum lovelies, stay frosty...

Hi everyone,

Bit of an extended silence, but we have been busy trying to find our stolen gear (result: nothing) and wondering how to replace it. On which subject we need to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who kindly donated some money to the Souvaris Instrument Fund, a group started on Facebook by Jim "Thing One" Alexander. See here:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=46517481510
You people are extremely lovely and have helped Simmo to get himself a fancy new keyboard to replace the 2 that were nicked. We're still working out how to mimic the sounds that were stored in his old ones, so old songs may sound a bit different than they used to, but at least we're back in business! THANK YOU.

In other Facebook-y news, we recently got around to setting up a group for the band, imaginatively called Souvaris. This will be our new tool to (1) keep everyone updated on what our future plans are, (2) consult on proposed song titles and (3) allow people to ask questions without being drowned in spam.  Sure beats the forum on our website and our crappy emailing list that died a death a couple of years ago, huh? Join up by visting:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=69047595445

Actual, physical news about shows now - we've got a couple of Nottingham dates coming up with the groovy NLF3 and a very exciting support slot with the mighty Polar Bear/Dirty Projectors gig! We're also playing in Coventry with Matt Elliott, 6 years after we last played with him. Should be a good 'un! And then we're also planning our European Tour 2009 to take place in May... we're gonna try and get around Holland, Belgium and France this time, so if you fancy having us play anywhere near you - GET IN TOUCH. Preferably through Clique Clack, who are booking on our behalf:
http://ww.myspace.com/cliqueclack

Phew, that's plenty for now!

Love,

Souvaris

Happy new year folks, hope you had a good one. Unfortunately, ours was marred by finding out that someone had spent New Year's Day by stealing the following from our gear storage space:

1 x 1978 Fender Musicmaster (serial number S11832) - Original black finish sanded down to natural wood. Brand new black scratchplate with distinctive 2x white single coil pickups, 2 x white knobs and 1x white 3-way selector switch (all custom installed). Guitar has black Fender typeface on headstock and piece of silver gaffer tape on rear holding an allen key. Large gouge in back of neck, which has been sanded down from original gloss finish. In a black soft case bag.

1 x Black Ibanez RG321 Stratocaster-style guitar - All-black guitar, relatively new. 2 x black humbucker pickups. Black headstock. In a black soft case.

1 x Korg Triton Classic Keyboard - Silver - Large, with several signs of wear and tear. Couple of the knobs missing, a big fat scratch above the pitch bend, a cigarette burn over on the right hand side.

1 x Clavia Nord Lead Keyboard, Mark 1 - Red - Medium-sized with distinctive red body. Several keys do not make any sound and keyboard overall has to be "coaxed into life" to function properly.

1 x Behringer 4 track mixer

2 x guitar pedals (a boss overdrive and a blue delay pedal missing battery cover)

1 x Gator keyboard case

If you hear anything about any of this stuff, please let us know. Anything at all... we desperately need to get this stuff back. Dave had his Musicmaster for 10 years and it has been extremely customised in that time. Simmo has had his entire keyboard setup stolen, and we have no idea how to even begin to afford to replace it, let alone reproducing the unique sounds stored in the Triton that powered the vast majority of our music.

You can email us at ichbinsimmo at gmail dot com, or on 07807 221082. Please pass info about the stolen stuff on to anyone you can think of (especially musicians in and around the Nottingham area), and feel free to repost this on message boards, etc.

Thanks - we're really upset about this, and would do anything to get this gear back.

Regards,

Souvaris

Hi everyone,

We never bother blogging on a regular basis on this thing and don't really know why - probably because we're slack fuckers. Given that the last blog was 9 months ago, if you don't check
www.souvaris.com you probably think we're dead. So here's a quick update on what we've been up to since November 2007:

At Christmas we ritually made fools of ourselves by making our live 'singing' debut at the Damn You! Chistmas Covers party. It was brilliant. There's footage all over Youtube if you want to know what it was like. We then spent the early portion of 2008 playing the odd gig (with the likes of Dalek and Caribou), but mostly locked away in our practice space Baselab, polishing off our first new set of finished songs since 'A Hat' came out. Then in July we spent a brief few days touring in conjunction with our buddies Sincabeza once again. You'll be pleased to hear that this time no vans broke down and nothing broke! Phew.

So where are we as of August? Well, we're about to re-enter Taylor John's House to record three songs for a split release with the mighty Sincabeza. Once again we'll be doing all the recording, engineering, donkey work and mixing ourselves, which might take a wee while. But we're planning on touring the UK once more in October - including our first ever trip to Scotland (dates TBC very soon)! Tentative plans for 2009 include releasing this split 'thing' with Sincab and hopefully touring the hell out of it in Europe and over here when we've got some free time.

Oh, and we're once again short of amusing/terrible song title ideas. Feel free to send your suggestions in...

Lovingly,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know we are now on tour with our goof friends, the mighty Sincabeza!

Yes, we have already overcome a broken-down van and 2 blown guitar amps, and are now on our merry way around Ireland and the prettier spots of the UK... check our listings for all the details.

In the meantime, please do bear with us if we're slow to respond to your message/comment/friend request/whatever... our access to the internet over the next few days is going to be sporadic at best!

Take care, and hope fully see you soon - if you do make it to a show, do come and say hi!

Lovingly,

Soo. Varr. Iss.

Hello hello...

Stumbling wildly through the techno-forest that is the Internet, we discovered this:

Recorded in pictures by Mr Jake Furious during our set at the Gringo Records 10th Anniversary Bash, one sunny June day in Nottingham. Lots of fun was had by all, especially by us as we'd been drinking for about 7 hours straight before playing.

It fair brings a nostalgic tear to the eye.

Hope you enjoy.

How do...

Well it's been a while since our last bloggy update, so we figured it was time to lay some cold hard facts upon you.

Our latest album "A Hat" is now officially available to the unsuspecting public and seems to be doing quite nicely. You can check out some nice things that people have been saying about it here, here, here, here and here. However, it's not quite the same as getting your own copy and deciding what you think for yourselves.

The album should be available in any half decent independant shop worth it's salt and in a few HMV's here and there. However, you can get it for the fewest pennies direct from the Gringo Records online shop. We're also in the process of relaunching our own little webstore at souvaris.com. Hopefully this shouldn't take too long. We shall, as ever, keep you posted.

If you do already own "A Hat", we'd love to hear your opinions. Get in touch, do...

We're currently having a bit of a break from playing shows, bar the occasional one here and there. We've all moved houses and are each suffering the trauma of massive stacks of cardboard boxes filled with crap we probably don't need anyway, teetering on the verge of collapse. We've also started writing some NEW TUNES! Early days at the moment, but there are some promising ideas starting to emerge. Exciting!

So that's it. Thanks for reading, staying in touch, coming to gigs, buying the album, saying hello, giving us hugs, etc etc etc......

We like you.

Current mood:  chipper

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that we are currently away on tour until Friday 20th April, and will doubtless have very limited chances to check our email. If you want to get in touch with us urgently, we suggest you use our Myspace page, but no guarantees...

In the meantime, buy "A Hat", which is now IN STOCK at the Gringo Records website. They also have a limited stock of t-shirts too!

If you're admiring the above picture, it's a snap of all the limited edition versions of "A Hat" that we'll now be selling at shows until they sell out - only 35 were made, so contact us if you're desperate for one and can't get to a gig!

We'll also be selling the tour CDR "May All Your Children Be Acrobats" at gigs, which looks a little something like this:

Again, if you're really desperate for a copy (70 mins of live Souvaris action 2003-2006, all mixed and mastered up by ourselves for maximum aural carnage), let us know because they'll probably go pretty fast...

That's all from us for now, but take care and keep in touch.

Best,

soo.varr.iss.

Current mood:  productive

Hi everyone,

How are you doing? Well, we hope. It's been a goshdarned awful long time since we updated you on the tricks we've been up to, but then we've been pulling together a hell of a lot of shit for you.

First of all, we played a couple of cracking gigs in the last couple of weeks - one at Imperial College London with Bilge Pump, Future Corpses & Man Aubergine, and one supporting Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham. We had great times at both, and BIG THANK YOUSE go to anyone who came to either.

Now, future gigs. In April, we will embark upon our fortnight-long European Tour (incorporating France, Belgium & Spain, as well as a special show at a friend's house near Bordeaux), following that up by supporting Thee More Shallows in Coventry and having the pleasure of once again playing with Elephant Micah in Cambridge. In May, we'll be playing all over England with a bunch of good folk - most notably a show or two with the mighty Do Make Say Think, and also joining our fantastic French friends Crevecoeur at a whole host of places. Lastly, we'll be playing the Gringo 10th Anniversary Festival on the second weekend of June, alongside such luminaries as Lords, Owen Tromans and those buggers Bilge Pump again. Check out http://www.souvaris.com/live.php for the full skinny!

The other thing we've been working on is product product product to go alongside our live actions for the next 3 months:

1: "A Hat" - the long-awaited second Souvaris long-playing CD album.
We've been promising this for 6 months now, but we will finally be receiving copies from the manufacturer by the start of April. You can now order yourself a regular copy at http://www.gringorecords.com/souvaris.htm, which will be sent out as soon as we get 'em in stock. Alternatively, we will also be doing an extremely limited edition of this album that will come packaged inside a hand-stitched hat! We're not certain on final numbers that we'll get in for this because our knitting team are still click-clacking away like crazy, but we think there'll be somewhere around 30 produced anywhere in the world, ever. They will be a few quid more expensive than the 'standard' edition CD album, but may well come with a secret gift or two to sweeten the deal... We're planning on taking the majority of these beauties on tour with us, but if you really, really need one, contact us before 4th April!

2: '"May All Your Children Be Acrobats" - Souvaris live 2003-06' Tour CDR.
We've been beavering away behind the scenes and have put together a new release on our Homoerotic imprint that stitches together 5 songs from 3 golden years of live performances. They come in a limited edition of 100, packaged with some gorgeous Helene Castro-penned-&-watercoloured artwork in a mini-DVD-style package that is as handsome as it is ergonomic. We'll initially be selling these exclusively at gigs, but if you desperately, desperately want one, get in touch and we'll hold one for you.

3: Souvaris T-shirts
Now then, we've been asked about and pleaded with for official Souvaris t-shirts for literally years now. Finally, we're pleased to announce that we now stock Souvaris t-shirts to fit your hopeless sartorial requirements. Featuring an exclusive design of a heartbroken and top-hatted cloud by Souvaris guitarist extraordinaire Dan Layton, these come in handsome royal blue or enigmatic burgundy, in a variety of sizes. You can now buy these suckers off us at gigs and they'll also be available live and direct from http://www.gringorecords.com/souvaris.htm by the end of the week. Beautiful.

Yeesh, told you we've been busy. Oh yes, and you may have noticed that we've relaunched our website in a beautiful new design, inspired by Alice Stevenson's artwork for "A Hat" and engineered by the wondrous Bertrand Manni - many thanks to both.

Lastly, we've had a little problem with our contact form on the website in that anyone who has sent us a message has not been able to send their email address. We're trying to fix the form so you can send your email address with any message in the future, but if you have sent us a message recently and not received an answer - try contacting us again with your email address included in the message!

Is that enough for you? Got any more questions or things you want to get off your chest? Then use our new forum! We're getting sick of fighting off the spammers already. Or you can use the form on our contact page. OR you can always message us via Myspace... just please don't get offended if we take a little while to answer - we're going to be away for long stretched of the next couple of months, and messages tend to get buried in the blizzard when we dare not check our inboxes for a few hours...

Hope to see you soon,

Soo.Varr.Iss.
