Craziness! Was just doing a little self-google-alerts-ing (not that I'm vain or anything), and I discovered that I was on KCRW twice for my Temper Trap remix! OUTRAGEOUS! It's the not first time I've been on, but I'm feeling pretty cool right now, nonetheless...

Thank you so much to Jason Kramer for throwing me in the mix, let alone two times!

Ahoy Friends!

I'm sort of speechless right now. My remix of Shwayze's "Get U Home" is currently #1 on the HypeMachine Twitter charts, ahead of Weezer, Lil Wayne, Julian Casablancas!!! UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE!!!!

Check it out:

Thank you a thousand times over to everyone who tweeted it up! Tweet tweet tweet, y'all!

Yes yes y'all!

Pleased to share a new remix I made of Shwayze's "Get U Home" (iTunes) from their upcoming album, "Let It Beat" (which hits stores Tuesday, Nov. 3rd). This is my first foray into official-remix-for-a-major-label territory, and it has been... well... more or less the same experience.

My remix was included on an Official "Get U Home" Remix EP, alongside some pretty heavy-hitters: Paul Oakenfold, The Bloody Beetroots, LMFAO, and Travis Barker, to name a few... Which one is your favorite? (pick ME, pick ME!)

For those unfamiliar with Shwayze, he is a California pop rapper and is produced by Cisco Adler. "Get U Home" presented an interesting challenge for me as Shwayze's brand of music is not my usual fare. It forced me to step out of my comfort zone and find creative ways to insert my personality - wound up being quite a bit of fun to work on!

ENJOY!

And attention record label folks, if you'd like me to remove this link, please email me at "info [at] wilcassettes [dot] com," and I will promptly do so...

Thanks!

Friends!

The response to my Temper Trap remix has been OVERWHELMING! So many folks have had so many nice things to say about it, and also landed a little MTV.com featured download spot. If you haven't had a chance to hear it yet, check it out here.

And before I do the old blog roundup, a few random notes to share from the past week.

1) Remix News: Got a few remixes in the pipeline, about to start on a new one today, and one more already finished, which I'll be posting in the next week or two. Stay tuned!

2) Song of the week: Donna Allen's "Serious." Heard it on Chromeo's DJ Kicks set... Check it:

3) Maximum Dorkitude: I am fascinated by how things work... Discovered and have been naturally LOVING the podcasts of howstuffworks.com. Check out their complete list of podcasts on iTunes if you're up for having some knowledge dropped directly on your brain...

4) Laugh of the week: DJ Khaled Loves McDonald's. Actually had me in tears...

5) Where the Wild Things Are: See it... Just stop what you're doing and go see it...

And here's the old blog recap:

Friends!

Just finished a brand shpankin' new remix of "Sweet Disposition" by a band called The Temper Trap. You may have heard them recently on the "500 Days of Summer" soundtrack.

I was instantly drawn to the singer's voice - great falsetto, emotive and pitch-perfect - all VERY tough to pull-off. I really couldn't hear any sort of auto-tune mumbo jumbo or studio magic on there. He just kills it...

Check out my spin on things. And as always, if you like what you hear, please help spread the word and feel free to send the link to whomever!

ENJOY!

Friends!

I'm sitting here in sunny Los Angeles as I type, listening to some incredible Cuban music and loving life. It's been an interesting past few days: had my first pink and purple Virgin America airlines experience, a quick run-in with the Church of Scientology, and got to chat with Esau from The Very Best on the phone for a little while (what a cool guy!) - he liked my remix!

Also just heard from my pal from across the pond, DJ Supermarkt of the internationally-known DJ-team-extraordinaire, Berlin Battery. He made a neat little mashup (or "shredit bootie" as he likes to say) of my song "N.I.C.E." with some awesome 70s disco, complete with extra-funky slap bass solo...

Enjoy it, share it, BUMP IT! And in other news, finishing up a new remix for a cool band out of Australia - I think you're gonna like it. Will be posting in the next week or so.

Much love!

Had the distinct pleasure of seeing Esau of The Very Best perform a secret show @ Zebulon in Brooklyn this past weekend. It was total insanity - dancing, drinking, debauchery... good times!

And in related news, the blog results are in, and people are loving my little remix! Here's a digest of what the bloggers are blabbin', and if you still haven't heard / downloaded it, check it out here:

Sheena Beeston "Discoliciously gooey pop/rock... Amping up the beat and playing with a ridiculously catchy undertone worthy of a "Paul Simon-esque" comparison, Wilkis makes the already cool track that much radder."

Consequence of Sound

True to Sound

Together in Digital Dreams "It's like they went back in time, found their souls in the 80's and joined Passion Pit in taking over the world. Well done."

88 Days in my Veins "Oh so 80’s Miami beach... It rocks... Loving this."

Subservient Experiment "Dare I say I enjoy it more than the original (gasp!)."

Pasta Primavera "Wilkis infuses his electro funk, and it WORKS baby... Definitely an interesting bridging of genres/sounds."

The Fast Life

Kickin' the Peanuts

Synthetic Rocks

Ghostproof Blanket

Cities of the Plain "I like this guy's sensibility. He does a nice job of enhancing the original track and expanding on the party jam side of things."

Danger Danger "When I listen to Alan Wilkis‘ tracks, may it be remixes or originals, I can but help to think 'This guy has to be, or deserve to, get all the attention the world can muster...' I love what he does, and in my eyes he’s close to a genius."

Azltron "If you were looking for the jam of the summer, look no further... Transports all listeners instantly to a fantastic island themed party on the beech with all the bacardi and bikinis anyone could ever want."

DOWNLOAD: "Warm Heart of Africa (Alan Wilkis Remix)" - The Very Best ft. Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend)

I'm extremely pleased to present my latest remix for your listening enjoyment. The song is "Warm Heart of Africa" by the group, The Very Best, and it features Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend on vocals. The band has been called "best new music" on multiple occasions by Pitchfork, they are adored by Stereogum, and you can read about them... well... just about EVERYWHERE!

The group is a collaboration between Malawian-born singer, Esau Mwamwaya, and London electro-producers, Radioclit. Their debut album came out digitally on August 25th, and I've been listening to it non-stop. It's an amazing fusion of traditional African melodies with modern electronic synths, beats, etc... and the results are eeeeeeeeeeLECTRIFYING!

And when I was offered the chance to remix for them, I of course leapt at the opportunity. It was a total blast to work on, and I'm thrilled to share it with you here! By all means, PLEASE share it with your friends and fellow-music-lovers. Spread that ish like hot butter on your breakfast toast!

Much Love,
A-town
