Oxjam hits the stage @ Festival of World Cultures, Dun Laoghaire, this weekend!

Come along and visit us at the Oxjam stage.

Oxjam is at the Kingston stage in the lovely front garden of the Kingston Hotel.

Look out for the large Oxjam banners on the stage and all around the garden. Oxjam volunteers will be the ones wearing the black Oxjam t-shirts.

Music on the Oxjam stage starts at 13.00 on Saturday (till late) and 13.00 on Sun (till late).

Oxjam artists include Lisa Hannigan (19.30 Sun) and Andy Irvine (Sat 19.30)

Oxjam will also feature in the global village beside the Oxfam fair trade shop. Here you can sign up to get involved, collect a tool-kit, see blown-up photos of previous gigs, buy Cake Sale merchandise and you might even hear a live tune or two.

See you there.

Oxjam Music Event Organisers (MEOs) wanted!
From Aug 1st – Oct 31st

Oxjam volunteers are pretty inspiring folk. This year we're looking for people with that extra bit of sparkle to lead the party.

All around the country, regional volunteers will be at the centre of the action, spreading the word in their local music scene and coordinating events as part of one big festival.

Right now, we're looking for Volunteer Regional Coordinators all over Ireland.

The role will be demanding but also great fun, a fantastic way to make new music contacts as well as new friends. Needless to say, it makes for top CV points too.

You'll start by helping members of the public put on Oxjam fundraising music events. And for bringing Oxjam to life in your area.

You'll also be invited to a fun induction training day in Dublin, an Oxjam day jam-packed with expert advice and tips for organizing events.

You'll need to have:
Some experience working with teams, clubs or societies
Enthusiasm, creativity and a 'can do' attitude
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task and a passion for music

This is a new, exciting opportunity and one that will be instrumental to the success of Oxjam 2008. You'll be breaking new ground while doing this work and will have personal support from Oxfam Ireland HQ.

If you have any questions contact  oxjam@oxfamireland.org or call 01 6350 434

Bray musician Padraig Rushe is set to appear on MTV next month after reaching the semi-finals of MTV's 'Get Seen Get Heard' talent search, in association with Oxfam's Oxjam music festival. Almost 200,000 votes were cast on the MTV website in the first round of the competition, as bands and musicians all over the country uploaded videos of their live performances from last year's Oxjam festival for voting.

'Get Seen Get Heard' asked Oxjam participants to film their gigs and upload the footage onto the MTV website, to put their talents to the public vote for the opportunity to appear across MTV's music channels.

The next step will see Padraig profiled in a package shown throughout March and April. In the coming months, the 25 semi-finalists will be whittled down to five, each of whom will receive a mentoring session with a music industry expert. The final three will battle head-to-head in a live studio show and the eventual winner will record an exclusive "Spanking New Session" in the MTV studios.

Padraig performed at a gig in Bray during October for Oxjam 2007, and other local bands can do the same, as Oxjam returns nationwide in Ireland throughout October 2008. Once again, thousands of events put on by music lovers – from large-scale festivals to local sponsored busks – all over Ireland and the UK throughout October will raise vital funds to fight poverty around the world.

Padraig is a singer/songwriter who was born in Ireland but grew up in America on a diet of bluegrass, folk and world music. In 2000, he joined the Dublin Gospel Choir, with whom he worked as a soloist, arranger and writer for the last six years, touring nationwide and releasing three albums.

Alexandra Johnson, Music Marketing Manager at MTV, said:

"Oxjam is a rare opportunity for unsigned bands to give their own music career a boost whilst doing something charitable. Last year, we were thrilled to find a wealth of promising new artists such as Padraig Rushe amongst the hundreds who performed at Oxjam gigs. The festival is set to kick off again later this year, so whatever sort of music you play, get involved."

Oxjam Ireland Co-ordinator Emma Kilkenny said:

"As Padraig 's success last year shows, taking part in Oxjam can help take local musicians to the next level, as well as helping us to fight poverty. We'd love to see as many Bray bands as possible getting out there and playing Oxjam shows in October."

Find out more about how you can get involved with Oxjam this year.
