Well, Bird and I are spending a couple of days writing at The Village HQ…Has been a productive day and ideas are coming together… The plans for the second BirdPen album are going well. We plan on some more writing in the very early parts of January then after the Archive tour we plan to head into the studio to record and mix tracks in February/March so hopefully all snags taken into consideration we have the 2nd Album ready for April onwards..
Ideas and thoughts included and inspired for the tracks are Paranoid policemen, False Profits, The Itchen Bridge, A film I saw when I was 10 years old about a man trapped in a phonebox who gets taken (still in the phonebox) to a huge hanger full of trapped people rotten and dead also all in Phone boxes, The 3rd great awakening, Utopia and Carrying on and not giving up!!!

On the Concert side of things to confirm to interested people BirdPen will not be supporting Archive in January. Hopefully we will tour together again in the future. We shall see!!! Maybe the odd B&P acoustic performance on the Archive tour..
BP Shows to be announced in 2010..

We should hopefully be playing One Shot Not in February.. This would be a really great thing for BP so fingers crossed everything gets sorted and confirmed…

Random sentence - A food hygienist is talking about Crab claws on the television and apparently the inspectors have found that there is actually no Crab in the claws.. mmm Nice !!!

Whilst writing this I’ve done some research on the phonebox film. I think it’s called La Cabina…

A short Image film made by Dave Pen... The Dead Factory was filmed at the All We Need Project in Luxembourg...

Whilst on travels around Europe supporting Archive I went wondering as one does and found myself slap bang in the middle of the All We Need art project in Luxembourg. So with my Fathers Video Camera in hand i went about and filmed a load of footage...
The huge industrial graveyard was very inspiring and a wonderment to behold...
I was truly lost and amazed in this awesome steel graveyard..

Once home I set about loading the footage in to my slowing pc and thinking about ideas.. I had to keep my brain on the tredmill of thoughts so toyed with a few ideas for a short image based film.
The footage came togther quite easily.I then tried a few different musical ideas and slowly came to a halt and got stuck for 10 days or so..
Luckily for me I was invited to a private viewing at a contempary art gallery in my home town ( I dont go just for the free wine ). The exhibition was called 'Dark Places' and involved the uncovering of sites of secrecy and technology across Britain that all fall under the radar of common Knowledge.
One film in particular gave me great inspiration to finish my short image film. The film was called Voodoo Science Park and was made by Victoria Halford and Steve Beard. It wasnt more about the concept of their film ( which was about a delayed ancounter between poet William Blake and political Philosipher thomas Hobbes all based around a secret laboratory that create and then examine destructive pathways ) but more the feel of it.. The minimal sounds and ghostness of it..

I have based the ideas for the film on lonelyness of structure, isolation and memorys...

Hello Hello…..

I hope all is well in what ever world, space or frame of mind you live in.

Thought I’d do a blog…

We recently returned from a 1 gig jaunt to ....Switzerland.... which was a fun fuelled trip. We played the Festival De La Cite in Lausassane which was very nice indeed. We have visited ....Lausanne.... before and it’s a truly wonderful place. The show was the biggest crowd we have performed in front of – Around 4000 we were told. Not a bad way for James to celebrate reaching 30 years on planet earth huh? !!

It’s great that we are supporting Archive on their European tour. It’s been a while since Archive have toured and for me its going to be really special and a lot of hard work of which I will thrive off. I am very fortunate to get this opportunity and can’t wait for this tour. I think from a spectator’s point of view musically I would love to be watching a night of music like what the fans will see on most nights of this tour. Be gone with the mundane run of bullshit that hangs over us on a daily basis and lets crank the fuzz and open our hearts and minds and let it out !!

....In other news we enter the Dairy studio next Tuesday to mix the edits for the Off Single. Bird and I have re-worked a version for radio which we are very happy with. It’s more electro than before and obviously shorter but it really kicks…

It shall be up on the myspace as soon as it’s ready..

Also we have some cool new t-shirts being printed which we like very much indeed

Antennas all the way for these ones and if you were to see a few folks wearing them at the same time they would look like an army of some sort. All dressed in black with birds on antennas across their chests…Very cool.

We will be entering a new rehearsal space in a few weeks time to rehearse new material for the tour and the 2^nd BP album. We owe massive thanks to close friend Vinny and his band The Mopes who have kindly let us use their space whilst they go travelling for a month. Check out their blues country psychedelic music here
