Dear Friends:

I'm writing to let you know about a new project that your peoples in WOTM are just releasing. Check it out yo.

the overhead lines new superstar deluxe release, "We have no plans but will they work?" is a tribute to the public transit and pedestrian infrastructures of San Francisco. Well thunked beats and epic post-rock slumpers engage the metropolitan landscape to nod heads and shake rumps.

Members of Whitey on the Moon, Delivery is Possible, Don't Die and B and Not B saw a golden crevice that needed filling and jumped on in it. One part dub-step, one part pop ambient, one part blissed-out americana... Pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders - these motherscratchers are burning for you.

You won't be disappointed as all is brought to you courtesy of the fine folks at velaparatodo and Standard Operating. We got our helmets strapped tight and our safety lights flashing.

Cheers!

It is true. Your favorite near-do wells, Whitey on the Moon, will be staging a unique performance at a local venue. We will be joined by the amazing B and Not B (www.myspace.com/bandnotb) and the next big thing, The Heated (www.myspace.com/theheated), while our running partner DJ Astronout (www.myspace.com/astronout) will be on point with the illest of pontillistic atmospherics. Indeed.

You say: This sounds like such an epic adventure - Will the availability of such high quality entertainment to so many people lead to a self-destroying prognosis? It is likely that the club will experience a lovely thrombosis, BUT we promise not to employ congestion pricing... Well not this time.

Thee Details:
"Thee Parkside goes Pop!"
Feat: B and Not B, Whitey on the Moon, The Heated with Astronout
October 23rd, 2008 9:00PM $5, 21+

Please join us as we bring it on home to Potrero. RSVP via email and we'll have a door prize waiting for you.

I hope to see you there.

dear friends,

to save keystrokes, i've decided to write this post in all lowercase. i will continue to use proper punctuation, don't fret. but i may occasionally veer into passive voice.

this next week finds the whitey dudes conspiring to support our dearest friend mpx. although i am neither, she has asked us to perform with her and her girl mf as clandestine members of micropixie and the single beige females. the music sounds great, and we will probably never recover from the thrill of playing with a live space alien. at least she tells us that she is alive.

you are cordially invited to show some love for this epic collaboration at our upcoming performances. we are happy to share this opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a hot hot hot venture. you can honestly tell your friends that you saw us in the early stages of project developement, to which they will cheerfully reply: i don't know them.

Last week, John Swanson from Pacific Noise stopped by to jaw a little and listen to some music. He recorded stuff on the videocamera and cut it up for your perusal.

Watch Whitey On The Moon on Pacific Noise (05/2008)

For those who don't know, PacNoise is a prolific San Francisco based zine/blog/platform for enjoying local live music.  Digging through his archives really gives you a feel for the music of our fair city... for better or for worse, but usually for the better. Please check it out and give him some love in the comments.

For our SF audience:
Heads up, we've got a great show coming up this Thursday May 29, 2008 at the Amnesia Bar.  We've been playing with the great violinist John Kosim as highlighted in the video.  AND we are collaborating on a number of songs with  MicroPixie.  Andalou is headlining - they are super cool.  Delivery es possible is rocking the ambient noise and Kosho will be bringing the visual mayhem.  See you there.

We got the Spirit, yo...

Fo OLC:
AUGUSTA, GA. - Like a hurricane of rhythm surrounding an abyss of fiery passion at the edge of eruption, Whitey on the Moon explodes from the speakers with a mix of rootsy rock n roll and rhythmic sincerity in "One Less Car."

A sound familiar to the ears of blues and country fans, this band reverberates in the eardrums with magnetism reminiscent of Wilco's progression through the years. With simple harsh lyrics and bleeding power chords throughout the six track collection, Whitey on the Moon explores the timeless expanse of territory called Americana while blending the open spaces of the prairie into a rock n roll framework of cataclysmic sound. It's like the band mates of Wilco teamed up with the hard-charging Allman Brothers for a romp through the countryside, and throughout the ride, the slippery percussion cues destroy any chance of monotony in the vision.

Jamie Osborne fronts Whitey on the Moon, and with his gravel-laden voice, he breathes life into the songs on this album. Performing and recording since 1996 as Whitey on the Moon, Osborne has been around the country in search of a signature, and has come up with a noise box full of expression in the process. Like a shot of adrenaline being poured upon a heavily sedated state of mind, Osborne's song scream into the midst of our being while imploring us to recognize the power of heartbreak, tears, and drama within our own lives.

Only six songs, but six full-barreled blasts into the consciousness, "One Less Car" sizzles with passion leaving a longing for more to come. Opening with "Ride Designer," the record begins in a traditional format of blues rock n roll without too much to write home about, but in the heat of the moment, this serves as a set up for the experimentation to follow. "One Less Car" opens a vein in the body with its time-clock-like ticking and soft melodic hooks. "Hit Parade" opens with a sweet croon, but parlays the peace into a romp set for the streets of riots and rebellion. Such passionate resistance is followed with the smooth transcendence of a musical menagerie in the form of "Blame Gaming," which swims in soft rhythms while telling the stories of fear. "Good Time Faeries" recalls the band to the pace of passion with its constant pounding and calls for the lack of needs. Finally, the highlight is truly saved for last as the band blends all its elements on the longest and best-crafted composition in "Komerika." On "just another day staring at the ceiling," Whitey on the Moon paints a portrait of sadness and loneliness in the hearts of mass society while exposing the darkness within the average day, and in so doing, they display the dexterity to flow from pummeling to contemplative in the musical score of another day gone by in the "empty and gray."

A fascinating take on the rock n roll genre, Whitey on the Moon offers a sample of the greatness that could be with the release of "One Less Car."

Fo Discolandia:
The song called "Bobcat Man" has a unique vintage guitar tone. The vocal effects come with Echoplex-like sounds. The tone of the drums and chordings on the guitar make this tune original. You can hear an echo effect that seems to alternate between guitar and vocals, and the feedback echo ending on this song is super cool.

"People Get Ready" was originally done by Curtis Mayfield, and it was covered by Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck. Yet this is the most unusual interpretation of this tune that ive heard. The fuzz-filter vocals are unique.

"Empty Charms" has a guitar riff beginning that sounds like the guitar being used is a Silvertone or Airline Res-o Glas. There a very fast tempo to this song, with drums and guitar going at breakneck speed.

Overall, Whitey on the Moon has a unique contemporary sound.

Fo sho.

Thanks Metro Spirit!

Dearest Friends,

The ONE LESS CAR world tour motors on.  Your boys, WOTM are poised to engage in another fun filled evening of bumper sticker sloganeering and jack and cokes.

What do we want? Another mindless chorus!
When do we want it? Now!

Please note that we are lucky to have employed full-time, the services of a Mr. John Kosim on violin.  We've written an ton of new material and are excited to share it with the world.  We are also stoked (we live in California, yo) to share the stage with a couple great new SF bands, Andalou (formerly Kristeva) and Micropixie.  Low-fi, pop ambient superstar, Delivery es possible has promised to bring the noise in between sets.

This will all happen on Thursday May 29th at Amnesia located at 853 Valencia Street (between 19th Street and 20th Street) in San Francisco. Things will start around 9PM.  We will play second on the bill.  Amnesia is one of my favorite spots in the mission and easily accessible via Muni lines 26, 14 or 49 and a short walk from BART (and many wonderful taquerias).

I hope that you are yours can make it.  Feel free to pass this note to whomever.

Salamat!

I decided to not make a decision about this post finding you well...  perhaps we’ve reached a wellness plateau.  I’m hesitant to use the word "pause" in regard to today’s wellness levels, so I’m going to wait it out and leave the dramatic improvement of wellness wishes to the next massive.

At Whitey on the Moon, we recognize that supporting quality indie pop and experimental electronic music may be one one of your top priorities for 2008.  Thus, we have arranged for a performance to cater to your specific needs.

Saturday March 29, 2008 :: 111 Minna, San Francisco :: 9:00PM :: With Astronout, My First Earthquake and Kush Arora

111 Minna
111 Minna, San Francisco, CA 94105
(415) 974-1719

Please note: this wotm performance includes a slight detour from the spastic drum acrobatics of brother Greg Marasso - He is off to Japan for family visit but has left us with a big can of slappers and booty shaking beats.  We are collaborating with Mr. Astronout and violinist John Kosim to bring the downtempo crunkified dreamy noises.  So instead of Tommy Lee you get Timbaland jamming with Mouse of Mars.  But I digress...

All this AND you get art and food!

We are playing in support of the Ryan Seng Project gallery opening.  Ryan is an expressive painter and filmmaker from the Davis / Sacto area who is debuting his ode to carnivorous suburbia entitled, "Bacon Man."

All performances will feature live visual concoctions and mix-mastery courtesy of Peter Kosho.

We’ll have copies of the new EP and new new new merch available at wellness improvement basement prices.  As always, if you come dressed like Obama or Hillary? You get a free CD. Although we are leaning towards giving you two CDs if you come dressed as O’bama (leprechaun stylie).
