Introducing Adam Lambert

Current mood:  animated

Hi Everyone!  I made a cardinal mistake as Commando Jam last week when I spoke to Blake--I forgot to find out how much I could blab versus how much I had to suppress.  So I've been suffering in silence, like a kid trying to keep a secret.  Johnny and Blake, along with Dallas, have said enough in the last week though, so now it's my turn.

Sooo.....

Starting last Wednesday, Blake and I played a rousing game of phone tag. First I sly-dialed him (267 SLY DIAL)--a great new service where you can call someone's answering machine directly.  He returned the call while he was at the airport, which I missed.

After more near misses, I told senior moderator SecretaryOfPlaid---"Wherever he is, whoever he is with, his ass is going to keep lighting up until I get through...." referring to Rayz's observation at the Birthday Bash that Blake keeps his phone in his back pocket and it lights up when he gets a call....

I finally got lucky on Friday night.    Blake called in the middle of running errands.  In the midst of popping in to visit a friend and grabbing a taco, he shared a bit of news with us.

Tour

So you already heard from Johnny and Blake what the biggest news is--Blake's tour is booked!! There is some date rearranging going on right now--Kevin managed to double book himself--but when that is sorted out, Blake has promised to blog the dates.

From other sources, I've heard most of the tour is in over 21+ clubs.  Once we know the places, the B.L.Army will make sure all the details are posted on the website.

Blake seemed excited for the tour, but determined to get more dates and locations.

And he's definitely interested in having our help for his tour.  We've been keeping track of which members can help out where--if you're interested, go to idolbored.com and let us know in the B.L.Army forums.

Music

One of the first things Blake told me during the call was that the HMW remixes are part of the top 10 Billboard Dance charts.  (It's adorable that he thinks I didn't know that, like, last week).  He was *ecstatic*.  According to Blake, the remixes that are being spun are those from Jake Benson and DJ Dan and he's hearing rave reviews from DJs.

It seems like Blake has found his market--and he's intending to stay snuggly there.  The new album--which Blake spilled this week might be named ODB (I'm already thinking of it as OCD, though, a nice companion to ADD don't you think?)--is going to be heavily dance and "darker."  Blake pointed to HMW and Surrender as closer examples to what he's doing now than the more pop-sounds of Human.

The second album is only part of what he's working on, though.  He's collaborating with all sorts of people and bands.  Their songs are coming out soon, as hopefully will be his own this fall.

IB and BLA

Blake said he has been really lax about the internet and keeping in touch online. He said he realizes how important it is to his fans and apologized.  He is incredibly thankful for our support and wants us to know that, however.

As a special thanks to the B.L. Army, he thanked us for the vigilance we performed on the groupcard.  He was touched to know so many people wished him well.

The Streets

Blake definitely wants street teaming everywhere he can get it. So Washington Blaker fans--you're on for Westlake!!  Jamber will be coordinate the street teaming for that show--please sign up if you're interested.

As for our street teaming at the AI concerts, Blake repeatedly told me that he loves the idea.  We have volunteers for 9 shows already--anyone else interested can go to the B.L.Army forums and sign up still-- and as soon as I get ahold of the concert dates, I'll make sure our flyers reflect that.

FYI, the glow bracelets with charms that we are handing out at the concerts are coming along well.  During our call, I painted a mental picture for him of us surrounded by over a 1000 glow bracelets that we are adding charms to (complete with jewelry fixings) and preparing for our AI street teams.  I'm almost positive he shook his head while laughing at me 3000 miles away.

He will be working with us on street teaming for his tour soon....There's a lot to do and plan and he definitely appreciates and wants our help!

And don't worry, we'll keep his butt lit up on a regular basis until we get all the details.  And I'll remember to make sure I can spill them as soon as possible!

Much Love,

Commando Jam

Current mood:  content

Last week, the B.L. Army had the chance to call and talk to Blake about his future appearances, his projects, and of course the BLA. After a false start--I managed to wake him up the first time (direct all questions straight to the Idolbored Dressing Room please)--we chatted while he ironed his shirts (again, DR only!).

Future appearances--The Two-Er

To find out where he will be playing next, Blake explained that fans should make sure and tune into his myspace page. While he's only on myspace "once or twice" a week, he told us he posts his appearances there when he hears from his management. Updates aren't likely to be on blakelewisofficial.com  -- according to Blake that site is run by Arista.

While he is in Seattle, Blake said that he has been playing a lot of events last minute. "Up here I kind of play out all the time," he said. Street teaming is unnecessary, though. As Blake explained, "I don't really care about people coming or not because it's--I just have to play ... that's just what I do." He said he has been doing a number of shows, mostly as favors to friends, in the area. "A lot of these shows aren't planned in advance. Everything this summer is just fun."

Because he's playing in his home base, Blake also has let us know that we do not need to street team at any of the smaller events or during Summer Meltdown. (We're still trying to find out about Westlake, but will keep you all updated!) Summer Meltdown, he explained later, is just a "super underground concert" that he has "been playing for years." The translation from Dallas? "It's a hippie-fest." Our translation: Not exactly the place to be cheerleading and peddling flyers, so we'll just chill instead.

Blake told me, however, that he will need more street-teaming once his tour gets underway. "The big shows, they are totally different," he explained. "When the tour comes around, I'll let you know about how everything is." According to Blake, his tour is being booked now. "As soon as its booked, we'll be set and we'll be strategeezing....we'll be using our strategery," with BLA, he told me with a hearty laugh.

In the meantime, he is trying to design his merchandise for his tour and is writing, recording, and producing his own music, mainly with drummer/roommate Kevin (KJ) Sawka. When I wished him well and said he'll land on his feet, he corrected me: "No, I am on my feet. I'll just do everything myself."

The BLA

He's not doing everything alone, of course. With street-teaming, Blake praised for our efforts and our standing offer to help with anything he needs. "I really appreciate that," he said. He then switched over from speakerphone to make sure I heard him over the bad connection and repeated more clearly, "I said, I really, really appreciate it". Click here to listen.

He also told me he has been very pleased with his street team: "Everyone has been super nice, really being cool about everything. The band enjoys the presence of the B.L. Army as well." Blake also said that, in general, that "The only crazy stuff I see is online. When I meet [people] in person, they are fine. People get crazy when they hide behind the computer, I guess."

He also thought our street teaming at the American Idol concerts was a great idea. When I told him that many of them did not know he had a record out, he was unsurprised. I assured him we were trying to change that.

In talking about the BLA, I made sure he knew what members were saying about him, saying "We've gotten great feedback about meeting you...You've been very nice, you've been wonderful, all we've heard is very positive comments from our street teaming." I made sure he knew, however, that every teamer knows they can't expect anything when they help in case he's too busy. "Basically, there is very little you can do to piss us off," I said. Blake burst out laughing.

I also told Blake that if he needed anything from us, he should let us know. I explained that the average age of Idolbored and BLA is a bit older than the typical tweens. "You have no idea what a bunch of determined 35 year old women can do when they put their mind to it," I said.

"Oh, I think I do," he replied.

*blush*

Last week we had great news about ADD sales for the previous week.  Not only did sales not drop but they rose from 1000 the previous week to 1600.  What caused the increase?

Audio Day Dream is an excellent album.  Almost everyone who listens to it agrees that it should be a hit.  The problem is that Blake's label is doing almost nothing to promote his album so the fans have taken over.  That's right.  Blake has the most diverse group of devoted fans that a musician could ever have and we've decided that his art needs to be heard!  The leaders of Idolbored, Blake's World, Team Plaid and Blake Lewis Multimedia have formed the BLArmy, a street team designed to streamline the efforts of all our sites and get Blake's record heard world-wide.

What can you do to help Blake?  It's simple.  Make sure that people are hearing his music.  Play his music in your carpool (captive audience!)  Give copies as birthday gifts to your friends.  Pass out fliers.  Post myspace bulletins.  Add a link to Blake's myspace in your sig file.  Have more ideas?  Post 'em in the comments!

One more thing that you can do is to hop on board the ADD Train.  Here's how it works:
1.) Go out and buy a copy of ADD

2.) Give them away - to someone you think will LOVE it (someone you can trust too)

3.) Make that person promise to listen to it at least 3 times. Then, if they LOVE it they will go buy their own copy and then pass the copy you gave them on to someone else and then repeat steps 1, 2 and 3. If they don't love it - no harm, just tell them to pass it on to someone else and ask the next person to repeat the steps, or they can give it back to you.

Easy enough?  If enough of us do this we'll be able to get this excellent album heard!

So what's gonna happen when the sales numbers for next week come out?  We can't wait to find out!
