Band : SonDura Album title : Fight/ Wake Me Label : Casket Music – Copro Records Distributor : PHD Release date : 19/11/2007 Release : (2-track) CD-single Wow man, if this London-based British quartet ain't gonna totally and completely màke it one of these days...I don't know whàt I'm gonna have to think about this "music business" I've been promoting over more than 25 years now! Watson brothers Tom (vocals, guitar) and Jack (guitar, vocals) had decided from a young age that they were gonna be active in music some day, discovering the electric guitar even before they hit their teens. While still at school, they were already writing and recording music...and in 2004 they finally made work of finally starting the band in which they would fruition their ideas. As bandname they had already chosen for a coupling of the Spanish words for "sound" (son) and "hard" (dura), hence SonDura ! Drummer Fred Green was a graduate of the Academy Of Contemporary Music in Guilford, and as soon as he auditioned for the band he knew he had found a home! Original bassist Dave Leather was eventually replaced by James Fraser in March 2006. Recommended by Fred because he was a fellow AoCM -er and a wonderful bass player, the guy already stood on stage only two days after his first rehearsal! The boys have already recorded an album's worth of material produced by legendary producer Tom Allom (who was active with Judas Priest and Def Leppard to name but a few). Commenting on the material, Allom said: "this band has managed to fuse the new American Rock sound with the classic British Rock song structure with a live feel that is nothing short of stupendous...". As a first outing (or, at least, so I've come to understand) towards the   fans, the boys self-released their 3-track EP Lights Out last year...all tracks of which can still be listened to at myspace.com/sondurarock – in a separate case, by the way. And while I'm already at it: both tracks off this single (as well as two other songs) can be heard in their entirety (plus the video for "Fight" , recorded during the last week of July and the first week of August of last) on the same page. For a further description of the band's material, both the band and label use something written by Kerrang! magazine's Dom Lawson : "the London-based quartet have struck a uniquely powerful and accessible signature sound that combines the crushing, belligerent sonic might of Black Album -era Metallica with the radio-friendly sensibilities of Nickelback and the edgy verve of Hundred Reasons ; a fresh and invigorating collision of styles, custom-built to send SonDura – the name means "hard sound" – rocketing from the enervating slog of the UK toilet circuit to the realms of bona fide Rock stardom..."! Words I absolutely agree with, and which   YOU should agree with too, I've you have any musical taste taste at all! EVERY song on that Myspace page is a hit in its own right, wonderfully groovy and catchy, and with singalong passages. Well, you'll have to be able to sing/shout pretty aggressively...but then again! The guys have already spent September and October writing and recording new tracks for their debut album, which will see its release somewhere next year! Something to look out for! And in spite of this being only a single, i'm tempted to put it in that "Best Albums Of 2007"...euhm...why don't I simply create a new section in my year lists? SONDURA [6] 'LIGHTS OUT EP'
They describe themselves as 'A melodic Metal Band with catchy Hooks' and their name means "Hard Sound". Luckily SonDura's mishmash of aggressive Metal and emotive rock is more promising than first impressions suggest. From InMe to Stuck Mojo to Meatllica, they've got all the bases covered. Lets See where they can take it from here. [VD]

This Engaging and entertaining three-track Ep from young London Based quartet SonDura offers an insight into theie multi-dimensional sound. Admittedly, the balladic 'Fake' is at odds with the rampaging 'Lights Out', but as the ballsy 'Antics' shows, although there is work to e done, they're on the right track. [7] JERRY EWING
