Reading is a key part of many people's personal & spiritual development. The trouble is that buying lots of books is expensive and you may also not read books based on their title/blurb alone - some of these books could be the best!

I've been considering for a while to introduce a pagan/spiritual library into The Coven - probably based in the Cafe and including books on a wide variety of related topics - including:

    relevant fiction,
paganism, (inc. Wicca, druidry, heathenry, Buddhism, Hindusim etc)
    theology,
psychology (Inc Jung, Adler, Freud etc),
    Christianity/Gnosticism
Islam, (Sufiism - a more spiritual form)
    Healing
    Crystals
    Divination
    Witchcraft
Magic (inc. 'Traditional', Hedgewitch, Chaos, Enochian (john dee etc), native american, african (inc Voodoo, Macumba, Santeria)
    Taoism
    Zen
    The Occult etc
    The Qabbalah
    Christianity, inc gnosticism
    The Essenes
    Herbalism
    Alchemy (inc. Paracelsus, Abertas Magnus)
Golden Dawn (inc Israel Regardie, Aleister Crowley)
Society of Inner Light (inc. Dion Fortune)
    Evnironmental/Green Issues
    Poetry/short stories from the community
    Nature/relevant science

What has spurred me on recently is that I was recently lent a book by a Coven customer - would not have chosen the book in a million years from Amazon/shop etc but found it a very good/useful read. I'm sure we could all share our good reads in a similar way through a library.

So, what am I proposing?

You must all have books across these topics which you no longer want - to free up space, or just to share with the wider pagan community. Don't hoard - share - please donate any/all these books to The Coven, we'll get them catalogued, shelved and put in place a membership & lending system. Any funds raised from the membership will fund additional or replace lost books. The library will probably be based in The Cafe but may extend upstairs. This could be the Northwest's first pagan/occult/spiritual lending library. For 'books' also read pamphlets etc.

This exercise will only work with the support of the community at large.

Your Community Library Needs YOU!

Please donate books generously and join The Coven membership scheme to get it kicked off with a flourish!

Hello everyone...

Its been a long time since we last updated Myspace - almost a year now - largely because at the time there were some very sad individuals who set out to cause a nuisance online.  We concentrated our efforts elsewhere but now feel the time it right to get back to the real Myspace world!

Thanks very much for bearing with us and keep in touch - there is a lot going on at The Coven - events, activities, socials and...we're building up a new library for pagans in the Northwest.

Why not develop your knowledge by visiting the shop and checking out these and the rest of our collection whilst enjoying a good brew?

The Coven are pleased to announced that, from November, The Coven will host the local Greenpeace group's monthly meeting.

The meetings will take place on the last Wednesday of every month, starting on November 28th, 2007.

We are delighted with this as Greenpeace aims and objectives fit completely with our Pagan roots of caring for, and nurturing, mother nature.

Not only has The Coven brought paganism to the high street and opened the first vegetarian eaterie in Wigan, now we offer you freshly ground, triple certified (organic, fairtrade and rainforest friendly) coffee! We can do this as we had the sexiest coffee machine known to man installed this morning.

After a crash course in barista technology, the staff got to grips with techniques to rival any self respecting italian spent the rest of the morning buzzing away like caffeinated bees!

Being a coffee snob myself, I have found that finding a good cup of coffee in wigan is a challenge. Not anymore! So, for the ultimate coffee experience, come in for a fresh, eco-friendly cup of coffee,  made with love and served with a smile... unless you are served by Maria on the run up to a full moon!!!

We had a fantastic moot last Friday - attended by over 25 people. The numbers at such a young moot demonstrate just how alive paganism is in the area.

Along with good food & wine we discussed a number of interesting topics including a thorough answer to last moots closing question - "Is it possible to generate Orgone Energy" - Thanks to Mark 'The Compost Elf' for his opening contribution.

We then moved the discussion onto reviewing a selection of hot-topics from the forums this month.

If you would like to catch up on the happenings at this moot or the wider topics under discussion then visit our very active online forums www.thecoven.biz/bb2

Thanks to all those who attended and made it such a great evening.

As promised we have now set up belly dancing classes with an experienced class leader.  The classes are Thursday 1pm-2pm and cost £6 each.  Places are limited so please call/call-in to book.

We are considering additional class times, please let us know if the current planned time is not suitable for you and when might be better - we'll see what we can organise.
