Today is release day for Jimmy Buffett's new album, "Buffett Hotel". I thought I'd mention it, because I played on the album, sang on it, and co-wrote four of the songs on the CD. One of the songs, "Nobody From Nowhere", was written with Tommy Womack and is also on the latest DADDY CD, "For a Second Time". Another song, "Wings", was written with Jimmy and will be on my next solo CD. Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band have been playing "Surfing in a Hurricane" on tour all Summer and Fall. I wrote the song with Jimmy last January. The fourth song is "A Lot to Drink About", written with Jimmy and the great Mac McAnally last year. Best Buy has the album on sale for $7.99!! --- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Buffet+Hotel+%5B12/8%5D+-+CD/9509971.p?id=2057265&skuId=9509971&st= Or you can order directly from Mailboat Records --- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Buffet+Hotel+%5B12/8%5D+-+CD/9509971.p?id=2057265&skuId=9509971&st= ...but hey, $7.99 is pretty good... Also featured on the CD are slide guitar master Sonny Landreth, Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, Mississippi bluesmen Cedric Burnside, Steve "Lightnin'" Malcolm and African Kora legend Toumani Diabate.

My new album, "Wings", will be released February 23rd, on Daphne Records. We have already shot one video for one of the songs. There is another in the making. I can't wait to have this CD released and get back on the road. Meanwhile, I'm writing new songs, running barefoot when it's not too cold, cooking, hanging with the family, reading and enjoying the cold grey weather. ------ Here is a recent interview that just showed up online: http://southernmissive.booklocker.com/2009/11/30/an-interview-with-will-kimbrough/ ------- I am gearing up for next week's CMT taping with Jimmy Buffett and the Zac Brown Band. Also next week, I'll be recording with Marshall Chapman and Michael Utley. What a week! ------ This just in: audio guru (and dear friend) Michael Romanowski in the latest Mix Magazine. Here is Michael telling it like it is: http://mixonline.com/video/mixtv/recording/michael_romanowski_mastering/

We are in the process of updating and improving willkimbrough.com. It's in a bit of a state of disrepair. I guess I've been busy doing other things, like getting my new album, "Wings", ready for release in February. Touring all Fall. Finishing Annika Fehling's album. And just regular life stuff. My new youtube page is www.youtube.com/willkimbrough My Reverb Nation page is www.reverbnation.com/willkimbrough Pretty simple, no? And there are some cool DADDY sites as well www.myspace.com/daddytheband www.reverbnation.com/daddytheband www.youtube.com/daddytheband Soon there will be links on this site to all of those sites, just to make your lives a little easier. We do what we can here at Will Kimbrough Music. We are concocting some Holiday Specials and they'll be up soon, too. You can cover all your musical holiday gift needs here at willkimbrough.com. I'm looking forward to the Pirate's Cove show in Josephine, Alabama, on Nov 21st. Should be nice and cool down there and way too much fun. Hopefully no hurricanes! I am booking the 2010 tour dates now. i hope to bust my butt our there on the road to spread the word about "Wings". I love this album and can't wait to share it. Of course, by "share" I mean take your money. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. Don't forget that every day is an opportunity to learn something new, and to see the good in yourself and other people. And dogs. I'm not trying to be corny; I really mean LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN EVERY DAY. Hang on to each other and spread love. Nothing else matters much. Peace out y'all Will

A lot of us lost a friend yesterday. His funeral was held in Mobile. I was in Nashville when I got the bad news, and I was headed to Kansas City and Iowa to play shows. It was too late for me to cancel on my friends who are up here playing music with me, so I missed the funeral. I understand that the eulogist quoted a song called "Godsend". That's moving to me, humbling. We lost a kindhearted man, a family man, a music lover, a man with a smile that made you forget your troubles. We all wish we'd been able to keep him around for a while longer. I'm reminded of one of my favorite songs:
Man takes his cane to a waterfall
Has a vision
Starts talking baby talk
Understood by a girl in Peru
We read about it in the daily news
Lines of poetry
Revealing mysteries
Still some can't swim
Jesus walked on the water
He turned the water into wine
He went down to the drunkards
To tell them everything is fine
You R loved
You R loved
You R really loved
I cannot decide
Who should die or live
I do my best to forgive
Falling backwards in the eventide
Listening at the riverside
Lines of poetry...
Victoria Williams wrote that song.
Goodbye, David. Karen, Sarah, Taylor, Samantha----You are loved.
----
I'm in Ames tonight. Wear your jackets.

Here is some news: DADDY is playing at Callaghan’s Irish Social Club in Mobile, Alabama on Sunday, October 25. There won’t be many tickets available; it’s a small room. But it will be a rock n roll band: the four piece version of DADDY. Not quite BABY DADDY, not quite STEPDADDY, just 4/5ths of DADDY the band. If you have not seen us play, please try and get there. We rock, if I do say so myself. For fans of rock n roll music. Check my tour dates page for updated shows.
My new album, “Wings” is musically complete. We are now working on the artwork and making plans for early 2010 release. I am really excited about this album, which contains “Three Angels”, “Wings” (written with Jimmy Buffett), and 8 other brand new songs that I can’t wait for you all to hear.
The East Coast tour with Kim Richey was quite a trip. The music at the shows was great. Singing with Kim is a wonderful thing. After 25 years of trouble-free trips to play in New York, I had my NYC Waterloo: immediately after entering Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel, I got two traffic tickets. Don’t take a left on 6th Avenue coming out of the Holland Tunnel. After that, we parked in the official parking spot of the venue. But the New York authorities took a different notion about our parking spot, and towed my mini van away. We rolled in to the hotel at 4 AM after a full fledged Gotham City misadventure. Pocketbook took a sound beating, too…ah well….
Highlights were our Jammin’ Jave show in the DC/NoVa area and our Johnny D’s Boston/Cambridge show. The other shows were real good, but those were just real highlights.
I’m playing two shows this Saturday, Oct 10: 11:30 AM at the Tennessee Legislative Plaza for the Southern Festival of Books (which is a great literary fest: this year’s lineup includes Roy Blount jr, Madison Smartt Bell, Tommy Womack, etc) and then later that night at Charles and Myrtle’s in Chattanooga.
Next weekend I’ll be in Indianapolis at Spencer’s Stadium Tavern. On the afternoon of the show—-Oct 17—-I’m doing a songwriting clinic. And then that night I have a reg’lar gig.
See you out there. -Will

There is no DADDY show tonight at The Rutledge in Nashville.
I would have taken it off my website, but my computer was messed up the whole time I was on tour.
I will post a good long blog about the tour when I have a minute. Thanks to all who made it out.
I will be at the Southern Festival of Books this Saturday morning, and in Chattanooga at Charles and Myrtle's the same night. That's Saturday, Oct 10.

Greetings from beautiful Traverse City, Michigan. It really is lovely up here. I had a great show here at Inside Out Gallery.
Before I got all the way up here, I was in Columbus, Ohio and really enjoyed that show. From there I was near Cleveland for the Honky Tonk House Concert, which rocked. And I did the Carrick House Concert ouside Detroit, which was was fantastic. All in all, a good week for me and my van. I am about to jump in that van and drive 700 miles back home. It's Americana Conference week, so I will be a busy lad, playing with DADDY, playing solo, and sitting in with Bonnie Bishop and Angela Easterling (both of whose CDs I produced and both of whose CDs are climbing the Americana radio charts!).
I'm also going to be finishing up Annika Fehling's mixes with the lovely and talented Eric Fritsch and sending them off to Sweden for approval. Skol!
After all that I'm going to do five shows sharing the bill with Kim Richey up on the East Coast (NYC, Boston, DC, Philly, Jersey). I can't wait to get free singing and writing lessons every night from one of my favorite people.
Have a good one. I'm just warming up my steering hands and my gas pedal foot...

We had a ball in Northern California last weekend. Visited good friends in Oakland. Bummed around Frisco. Thanks, Emily and Romo! Got to listen to some Staple Singers and Thelonious Monk from the original master tapes, courtesy of Michael Romanowski, Paul Stubblebine and the Tape Project, an amazing audiophile label (http://www.tapeproject.com/). What a thrill for a music lover.
Strawberry Music Festival was a big mess of fun----I played Friday early. Rock Soup Ramblers Romo, Doug and Steve joined me on acoustic bass, dobro and mandolin for "You Made Your Bed" and "Cape Henry". Played later with Rodney Crowell----full band with Denny on bass and John Ferraro on drums. First time Denny and I have played and Harmonized together in a couple of years. I've missed you, D!! John Ferraro is fantastic and a great hang as well.
We played yet again at midnight. You may recall my last midnight show at Strawberry---in the round with Rodney, Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson. This year was the Avett Bros and then us. I sang "Piece of Work" and "Betty Was Black" during our set. We were joined by San Fran's Chickwagon for their version of Rodney's "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues".
Played the State Theater in Modesto the next night. It wasn't the big time operation that Strawberry was, but it was a great show, played to a sweet audience. Saw some good friends there too.
Home now. Doing some background vocals for Gwil Owen's next CD. Working on his version of our song "Another Train", which I released on "Americanitis". Working on getting my new CD released as well.
Headed out for Ohio and Michigan this weekend.
I've borrowed some bitchin' guitars from Fender and Gretsch lately---a Custom Shop 50's Telecaster Relic and a George Harrison black Gretsch Duo Jet. Strung 'em up with my slightly heavy guage Ernie Ball strings and they both just rocked on my last couple of electric shows. They both absolutely sang through the rented Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue amps.
See you out there.
