St Augustine put it this way...

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
-St. Augustine

this is blog number two about this book

Why God fights with “uncompromising hostility to sin and all its fruits”.
The fruit of sin doesn’t necessarily look like dragons and demons. It can look like mediocrity, permitting the diminutive trappings we fall into to have root in our lives. Falling further and further into the pit everyday, and before we even notice, we’re completely covered in what we thought was a small sin. That is why God must eradicate sin completely, because the smallest drop of it will end in death.

The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan
-that’s the title of the book I dusted off last week. It dates back to the late 1800’s and looked as if it hadn’t been opened since then. My husband and I are clearing out a house that has stood still since the 70’s. Amid the wreckage we have found a few treasures, this book being one of them. The beautiful leather-bound cover was very intriguing to me so I extracted it from its long time home of cobwebs and moth balls.

-I was caught at just the publisher’s preface. Capturing my attention such that I had to share some of what I read:

“Between purity and pollution there can be no coalition; nor could the supreme Author of all things, the God in whom inheres every perfection, maintain any other than an attitude of uncompromising hostility to sin and all its fruits, to the author of rebellion and all his followers.
Another conclusion is apparent: God, as the foe of all evil, and at the same time omnipotent, could not, consistently with his own nature, suffer rebellion to enter within his realms, and abide forever. The intruder must be cast out; the disturber of the peace must be destroyed. There can be no question as to the issue of the controversy between a holy Creator and the rebellious creature.”

for Satan and his angels being cast out of Heaven, this world has become the sole theater of the struggle between right and wrong. All men have become involved therein. Between them and salvation there lies the problem of recovery from sin, the attainment to a condition of reconciliation and acceptance with God.”

Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1888, by
Mrs. E G White,
In the Library of Congress, Washington D.C.

These captivating, thought provoking words have caught me where I am, in such wondrous timing. When all of life seems so carnal, it’s tempting to disregard the eternal structure. Forsaking the fact that we have souls that live on beyond our faults and short comings, we stop at our lack of worth because our hands can’t build us the empire we think we deserve. So begins and continues our cycle of despair, our perception that life is so meaningless. And it is! Much of life is vain, worthless, and trivial; because it has become about us. Our checklist of things to do in a day continues to grow and we count our worth by the tally marks made on that list. Obviously day in and day out we’ll feel this aching inside like ‘what’s the point of doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff?’  Endlessly trivial will continue to be our lives if we don’t realize that we are ALL caught in this battle. The book says that “this world has become the sole theater of the struggle between right and wrong. All men have become involved therein.” So if we’re living, breathing, walking the earth, there’s no escaping this battle. Doesn’t matter whose side you choose, you’re still in the battle.

All things even monotonous tasks must be done, not for the sake of doing or of recognition, but intentionally for the glory of God.

If our eyes are caught on this side of the veil, yes, life will be meaningless because our life will end at death. But if we see past the end, and realize that at that point is where life really begins, then we will see the purpose in every opposition or blessing we are met with.

We’re down to the mixing on both projects!!! We are currently nomads as the Lord has moved us from our church in Chehalis. We are visiting different churches to present the music and message He’s given us.

We’ve loved meeting new people and being involved in the many ways God’s people serve Him. We hope He will open many doors for us to travel with our music, not for our glory but in effort to bring hearts closer to our mighty Savior.

--My song 'Dare to Believe' was chosen to be on the 'Chill Out' west coast acoustic CD put out by Quickstar International. There were like ten other artists selected to appear on the album mostly from Canada, some from Washington. The CDs are available for download on iTunes and a few other places, and the hard copy is available at my concerts.

So pick one up yo! :)

I was so blessed to be a part of a benefit concert last weekend...
"It was such an honor sharing the stage with so many talented musicians for the Haiti Arise Benefit Concert. Most of them have been playing longer than I've been alive, and have played all over the world in front of thousands! And we had a blast getting to know each other. :) I'm so grateful they asked me to play and allowed me to be a part of what Haiti Arise Ministry is all about."

My eyes are filled with wonder by these vibrant autumn colors. The yellows and the reds look like splashes of paint on a life size canvas. The image grabs my attention and demands, almost commands me to compose a verse. I'm surrounded by astounding beauty, all set in motion by a magnificent Creator.

I'm still working in the studio. We hope to have a couple 5 track eps done by next May. Stay tuned....

Local rising star Ericka Corban and her husband Mattaniah will perform her original music on Saturday, May 24, 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm at The Popcorn Factory, Wishkah and Broadway in Aberdeen. Her show is part of the grand opening for the Grays Harbor Street Market.

The Popcorn Factory is sponsoring Corban's appearance as part of the Grays Harbor Street Market grand opening on May 24.  There is no charge for admission, and Popcorn Factory owner Celia Barry explained, "We want to encourage young musicians to come in and play.  I was very impressed when I first saw Ericka perform in March and I am very pleased that she will be doing two shows at the Popcorn Factory for the Street Market opening."

Corban, 23, appeared in an April 25 artist showcase sponsored by Seven17 Records, a Seattle independent record label and sister company to Track10, a northwest Christian music promoter.  Corban's single, "Fourteen" was included in the showcase compilation CD and subsequently played by Seattle's Spirit 105.3 FM radio station on their Local Music Project.  Says Corban, "It was kind of weird hearing my song sandwiched between Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns!"

Brenda Fysh of Track10 commented, "Ericka is very real onstage, which fits nicely with her acoustic style."  Regarding her musical future, Fysh continued, "Ericka can write about things that she has not experienced, such as her song about divorce, "Anymore."  This is a sign of a good songwriter, and I appreciate her lyrics."

While Corban's schedule is managed by her two-month old daughter, Keziah, she continues to actively pursue her music career.  She is currently recording her original music at Pleasant Hill Recording Studio in Chehalis WA.  In early August, Corban will appear at "Music in the Rockies," a national music competition held in Estes Park, Colorado and sponsored by the Gospel Music Association.

Hi! Here's the brief news since I wrote last

February 24 I had a beautiful baby girl we named: Keziah Jane

-The birth experience was beautiful and peaceful in our home with a midwife.

March - April - We moved to Chehalis, Washington where we serve as musicians for sunday worship and my husband is a youth pastor.

We are currently learning how to preserve our time for the things that matter most and are most beneficial to the church, and our families.

p.s. You can visit us at the church where we serve Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

..> ..>

Since the end of our last little tour to Idaho I've been trying to wind down a little. My husband and I are expecting our first child!!! Yeah! We're so excited…

As my belly grows it continues to get awkward when trying to hold the guitar. J I'm still currently leading worship at a church in McCleary  WA. If you'd like to stop by you can find me there on Sunday mornings at or Wednesday evenings for youth group around . The church is called McCleary Assembly of God.

My husband and I are recording a little at home preparing for the day we dream of…being in a real studio recording a real album! We have a concert on the 20th of February (you can find the details on this site) and hopefully 9 days later I'll have our baby. (On leap year day!) lol…

But the stork is scheduled to arrive around March 5th and we're excited to be surprised.

Many blessings to you all, thanks for your prayers as we embark on this new journey of parent-hood. If you'd like to email me I'd love it!
