Twitter: the newest form of Better Mind Control.  We have commenced live and direct transmission.  Lock on to the signal at:

http://twitter.com/MaxxKlaxon

I am posting a lot of news on my Twitter feed before it's available on this blog, or the mailing list.  And some of it is exclusive stuff that you won't see anywhere else.

It's now the world's most up-to-the-minute information source on what's happening at Klaxon Labs.  Check it out!

I've got the gear package under control this time.  I've cut out the second mic and the stand that goes with it (used for vocoder segments... I'm gonna try using my headset mic for those, as well as for normal vox).  I've also left the projector at home -- there will be one at the venue.

The Hexagon is a cool space.  The audience tonight comes from different scenes and crowds, but they are all enthusiastic.  In NYC, people have the luxury of segregating themselves into their own subcultures.  There's a lot more intermingling in places like this, because the various types of freaks have to band together for survival.  It's a good thing.

The guys who run this place are great.  Josh puts up a white backdrop behind the stage for my video.  My set goes well.  Afterwards, Karl (a Swede with an impressive mohawk) and I discuss Tyskarna Från Lund's cover of "First We Take Manhattan" -- very different from mine, and from Leonard Cohen's original, but I dig it nonetheless.

MAD (above) tears it up... followed later by The Megadrives (below) with a guest vocalist whose name I forget.

Self-portrait with graffiti:

I make sure to indulge in some authentic B'more cuisine while in town:

En route to our hotel, MAD and I catch some memorable glimpses of late-night Baltimore.  I wish I had a photo of the 6-foot, 300-lb. hooker in the white fishnet bikini.  At least I got a shot of the rim shop used as a location in The Wire:

The next day we have brunch at Motive Within's place.  Then, back to New York on a double-decker bus, thru Tropical Storm Hannah:

Next weekend: Wilmington, Delaware!

I'll be posting notes and photos from my fall tour here on the MySpace blog.  The first installment, from the NPX / Northeast Power Exchange show in Philadelphia, is below...

After no live shows for 6 months, it's good to be back in the saddle.  The hard part is getting my gear to Philly via train.  I'm taking all my usual equipment, plus a video projector.  It's just too much for 1 person to haul thru half a dozen train stations.  Dealing with stairs is insane.  Next time, I'll plan my route so it's ramps, elevators, and escalators all the way.

I arrive at Philly's Union Station hours late on Saturday night.  MAD picks me up, and we speed over to the venue (Inciting, where I played at Broketronica back in February).  I set up while my fellow Brooklynite _vectorzero plays.

When I finally perform, after midnight, the set goes well. Turns out I didn't need to bring a projector -- Justin, who runs Inciting, is doing visuals tonight, and I can plug into his.  There's no screen, so my new Authoritarian Idol multimedia stuff is hard to see against the uneven wall.  But people still seem to like it.

I missed the whole daytime half of the Philly show... but everyone on the late-night lineup is off the hook.  The photo above shows I Eat Zeroes + Ones, whose set is last (at 4:30 am), but far from least.  Props to IE0+1 for making the NPX CD sampler happen, and designing the killer logo (based on an idea that I suggested).

It turns out to be an educational night also: I learn what "molly" and "maduros con queso" are (but don't partake of either one).

_vectorzero and I crash at MAD's pad.  The next morning, we just walk downstairs for an excellent breakfast at The Sidecar Bar & Grille -- the original home of Broketronica.

Stay tuned for photos and notes from Baltimore!

Several years ago on my birthday, one of the Klaxon Youth made me this amazing cake:

This year, the tradition continued. At my most recent birthday party (last night), I got a cool gift from two of my most loyal supporters -- a bottle of Sniper Vodka:

With great friends and fans like these -- plus nightly immersions in a tank of liquid nitrogen -- I have nothing to fear from getting older. I look forward to many more years of leading the Klaxon revolution!

Sorry for the radio silence recently.  There's a lot of good audio/video/performance stuff in the works right now at Klaxon Labs!  I'll have some announcements about it all, very soon.

Meanwhile, I want to mention a few events coming up in NYC that are worth checking out:

Thursday Nov. 29: The I, Synthesist album release party @ Anubis.

Friday Nov. 30: The Blip Festival @ Eyebeam.  (This is actually a 4-night event, but Friday is the night I'll be there.)

Sunday Dec. 2: Splice @ Solas.  (I am co-curator of Splice.)

Stay tuned for further transmissions...

That's right... we are playing at the Knitting Factory in New York Fracking City on September 8!

This is a very exciting development.  Prepare for a world-class mind control event.

We will be debuting a new song, never before performed in public!  (It's a cover, but our version is radically different from the original.)

Also on the bill: Psyche (underground electropop legend, going back to the '80s!), my old comrade-in-arms I Synthesist, and Brand New Idol.  DJ Subvert, who holds it down every month for Contempt @ the Remote Lounge, will be on the 1s and 2s  (or the Serato, as the case may be).

It's an 18+ gig... so maybe we'll see some younger members of the Klaxon Youth who might not have made it out to many of our previous (mostly 21+) shows.

Please come out and show your support!  This will be a major milestone in Maxx Klaxon history...

P.S. Enjoy the 2 new photos, from a shoot in February with Stephanie Keith (she also did the photos for the PARANOID STYLE CD).

Greetings, Klaxon Youth...

The latest intel: You can now buy my EP, PARANOID STYLE, on Amazon.com!  Here's the link.

And: I visited Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in NYC last week.  I have a brand new set of photos from the trip, with me posing next to some "authoritarian idols" of past, present, and future!  Check 'em out on my Photos page.

Meanwhile I'm in the studio, putting the finishing touches on my next CD.  More news on that soon, plus the details on a special event I'm putting together at the end of this month.  Klaxon out.

SPLICE

So I spun at SPLICE last night, after our scheduled DJ couldn't make it.  We also lost one of our bands, Karacter, due to a car breakdown.  And it was pouring rain.  And we had numerous tech glitches.  Clearly, enemy sabotage was at work.

But in spite of all that, the night turned out really well.  Those of us gathered at Solas were treated to 3 great sets: Alsatian's gently intense electropop, Leafblower's dubby, complex instrumentals and Jason Carr's burning hot ghettotech.

Props to the Leafblower guys (Mark and Janic) and Jason for traveling up from Philly for this show.  They are all part of the Broketronica crew down there... and I hope to perform at one of their events very soon.

Here are some of the songs I spun (about half of the set):

» Felix da Housecat + Miss Kittin feat. Melistar - "What Does It Feel Like" (Royskopp Remix)
» Robert Palmer - "Didn't Mean to Turn You On"
» Simian Mobile Disco - "It's the Beat"
» Human League - "Love Action"
» P.M. Dawn - "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" (Tittsworth Remix)
» Chromeo - "Fancy Footwork"
» Tiga - "Pleasure From the Bass"
» Björk - "Earth Intruders" (Spankrock Remix)
» Playgroup - "Make It Happen" (Zongamin Remix)
» Peter Howell - "Doctor Who (1980)"
» Telex - "Moskow Diskow"
» LCD Soundsystem - "Get Innocuous"
» Scissor Sisters - "Comfortably Numb"
» DJ Sures - "In the Air Tonight"
» FPU - "Crockett's Theme"

Klaxon Youth member Alex Bajoris recently brought this to my attention:

My name is Andrea Stone. I am one of many in this country whose minds and bodies are being attacked with the Government's Mind Control Weapons using satellites, radar, microwaves, radio frequencies, ELF waves, etc.

I am asking radio stations to simultaneously play the following song on Saturday, May 19th at 7pm as a dedication to all the Americans who are being attacked with these weapons without their consent. Also, I ask that you email me a response indicating whether or not your station will participate.

Dedication Song: "Eye In the Sky" by the Alan Parsons Project (streaming RealAudio link)

Remember, the only way to fight the enemy's mind control is with better, stronger mind control!

Greetings, Klaxon Youth!

I want to start using this blog to give you more of an inside look at what's going down at Klaxon Labs. Expect reports on my live shows and DJ sets, plus hints about upcoming projects (before the "official" news releases go out).

To start with, how about a recap of the year so far?

After Marlene and I played a suprise New Year's Eve Eve (that's Dec. 30) gig at Club Midway in the East Village, we decided not to do any live shows during January. I did have a DJ set at Deutsches Haus (NYU's German cultural center) on Jan. 19, which was huge fun. Thanks to my friend Jim Avignon, artist, musician, and Berliner, for making it possible.

The tech setup was... unusual. When I got there, I found out I would be playing my CDs on a boom box and a DVD player, and mixing thru a musician's amp! But it was hands-down the best DJ experience I've ever had. The crowd was feeling everything I played, from Lindstrom to Ladytron.

About halfway thru the set I dropped my ultimate "weapon of mental distortion": Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" (the Salieri Mix). The kids went nuts. Since then, I have also made the song (with original German lyrics) part of my karaoke repertoire. Falco (R.I.P.) was truly one of a kind.

During Nov., Dec., Jan., and Feb., I was also working on video projections for our live shows. This has been a longtime dream of mine. I knew I had to use that film degree for something... and what better way to enhance the power of my sonic mind control than with some eye candy?

On Feb. 12 at The Tank in Tribeca, the Maxx Klaxon multimedia spectacle was unveiled to the public. I created all the clips myself, using a mixture of found footage, my own video, photos and artwork, and Flash animation. Since then, the video has been a component of every live show. So far, the reaction has been pretty positive.

I've been busy in March, April, and May also... but I'll save all that stuff for another post. Meanwhile: are there any Klaxon Youth reading this who made it out to any of the events mentioned above? Let me know what you guys thought...
