Evenin', scum.

So, if you're like me, you keep shocking yourself with the new lows sunk to in the age of social networking.  Yes, the 16-year-old Luddite hippie version of myself is definitely not stoked.  I can only pull out my Naturecore LP and wonder, "wha happened?"  (Automatic 5 hippie/punk points for anyone that remembers that record).  When Crass said in the song 'Nineteen Eighty Bore' that, "Big Brother isn't watching you, you're fucking watching him," I don't know if they realized the timeless significance of it.  The lyric would age like fine wine.
I'm only saying this for pure amusement, of course.  Or perhaps entertainment.  All this shite (facebook, myspace, twitter, etc) is pure time-wasting addiction, like a drug.  Perhaps fun to try for a spell, hopefully there's no permanent damage and we still do actual PHYSICAL things like go to shows, hang out with humans, create communities and projects and weave some semblance of a pattern that we leave behind, other than a collection of 0's and 1's.  There I go, sounding like a hippie again.
We now have a twitter page at www.twitter.com/mischiefbrew.  There you'll be able to get all the exciting/not-so-exciting details of life and music narrowed down into 140 characters or less, easily digestable internet-gelcaps of information.  Join up and go to punk rock hell with us!

In other news, the long-promised Mischief Brew website is (somewhat) up and running.  It's pretty basic at this point, we didn't want TOO many bugs to work out.  The site is obviously www.mischiefbrew.com.
We'll add more doodads down the road...I'd like to get a streaming radio up there sometime soon, and we'll probably put up the aforementioned twitter widget up there too.  So, you won't miss a thing!

There are actually some new and exciting things in the works, so stay tuned.  How could you not?

Love, your neighborhood tree-hugging herbal-tea-drinking throwback!

Tomorrow onward, for the next 5 days...

ERIK PETERSEN (Solo/acoustic... de la Mischief Brew)
DAVID DONDERO (myspace.com/davedondero)
and more pleasant surprises...

FRI. 8/21 - Baltimore, MD @ Sidebar Fest
SAT. 8/22 - Washington, DC @ The Sassfactory
SUN. 8/23 - Richmond, VA @ R Gallery (BFD afterparty)
MON. 8/24 - Winchester, VA @ The Poodle Palace
TUES. 8/25 - Charlottesville, VA @ The Garage

All info, sites, times, etc (that we have) is listed in the shows section of the myspace.  We did a show together last night in New Haven (thanks, especially to all the travellin' folks!), and it went great!  Apologies to Boston and Oradell (the latter, David still played), there was some last minute changes on our end and we will make it up there again soon!
But these five shows are on the horizon.  See ya there!

Current mood:  blessed
Hey y'all...
It has been the craziest couple of days.  Mischief Brew is no stranger to Murphy's Law (the actual phenomenon, not the band)... but this one wins the race by a landslide.
So we are leaving today for a European tour, starting with a show in Glasgow, Scotland... and kicking it all off with the show last night at the Bowery Ballroom with The Hold Steady.  Yet Saturday morning, our drummer (Greg Taylor) called me from the hospital to inform me that Friday night he was run down head on by a NYPD cop car in Brooklyn.  The most notable injury sustained was a fractured clavicle (nearly sticking out of his skin... yeah, it's gross).  We are all most thankful that he is alive.  But after that, the reality set in that he cannot work, can't play the drums, and therefore can't go on the tour.  We all wanted to crawl under a rock.
So the challenge was: in four days, find a drummer who could learn quick, had a valid passport, and could go on tour for a month.  Thus began the phone calls.
The most likely candidate was my younger brother, Chris (who has played with us in the past, and played on the split LP with Joe Jack Talcum)... but there were some hitches there, mostly dealing with an expired passport.  Still we searched... most folks understandably couldn't do it on such short notice, others could have with some schedule-rearranging...
Meanwhile, last night at the Bowery Ballroom, our drummer was Andrew Baxter (from The Orphans, who I've been playing with since I was 16)... he learned 8 songs in 3 days, we practiced twice in NYC over the weekend (and I didn't even have all mp3s to give him... he learned the songs streaming from myspace and youtube... ahhh!)... and I'm happy to report that we not only pulled it off, but nailed it!  It was a great show.  But he could only do that one show, not the whole tour.
Too late to make a long story short... but anyway, Chris was able to expedite his passport, and he'll be drumming for us!  So a forewarning to folks in the first couple towns: we are diving into this with no rehearsal in two years, he's remembering the songs and practicing them as best he can... but it might be a little chaotic!  We'll make it fun though.  At this point, we are just happy we are coming and didn't have to cancel the tour!  Even though we are bummed that Greg won't be coming (as is he!).
A big heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone I talked to about this... people that offered their drumming skills despite the impossible, friends that referred people, to our families who calmed us down and helped us chug through this, and basically to anyone that showed their support and kept us from crawling under said rock.  That is the kind of support that keeps us going, pulls us out of ruts, and really reminds us how awesome our friends are.
So JINX BE DAMNED!  Last night at the Bowery Ballroom I said that everything is looking up!  Then I pulled the car around to load our gear, and blew a back tire on a dislodged curb plate sticking out of the street.  Try driving from NYC to Philly at 2AM on a donut, with four people and gear in the back sometime.  (By the way, thanks to Sir Jim Cavanagh for taking the wheel there!).
So anyway, this is rambly, far too long probably... I'm delirious on very little sleep, and facing the fact that I have to board a plane in a few hours.  I best get to my last minute errands... but just wanted to share this wonderful story with everyone.  See you in Europe!  The tour dates are on the main page.
    Cheers... -erik

Thanks to our friends at Pirates Press Records, an unreleased Mischief Brew song will finally see the light of day!  "Punx Win!" is a live favorite that has been recorded for a while... in fact, two versions of it have been recorded.  And will both be released at the same time, and will PLAY at the same time!  Sound crazy?  Let me explain!

MISCHIEF BREW/ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD split 8" picture disc with CONCENTRIC GROOVES! (PPR-022)

Mischief Brew:
"Punx Win!" (regular version)
"Punx Win!" (acoustic version)

Andrew Jackson Jihad:
"If Jeff Swiney Had A Hammer" (electric version)
"If Jeff Swiney Had A Hammer" (acoustic version)

CONCENTRIC GROOVES: I'll try to explain this as best I can.  Both bands have recorded two different versions of each song (electric and acoustic versions).  The vinyl has been mastered so that the songs/grooves run parallel.  In other words, depending on where you put the needle, it will play one of the two versions of the songs.  This is a SUPER UNIQUE vinyl picture disc!

This 8" is a split with our friends Andrew Jackson Jihad, great folks from Pheonix, AZ.  Links below!

More details will follow when we get more info.  Test pressings are finished, this is on its way!!!
