Current mood: grateful
So while I was away on the women's retreat this weekend, Alex hurt his foot. Chris's family had a bonfire and while he was sitting on a trailer, a bunch of pallets fell on his foot. :( I was worried that it would be broken but thankfully, according to the six xrays they took, he just has a bad sprain. The xrays actually showed the bruises on his foot and the back of his leg! I had no idea that bruises could be seen on xrays but the doctor explained that if there is a lot of swelling it can be seen. Weird. Alex loved getting to see his bones! He says they took a picture of his feet. The doc says he should not try to put weight on it for at least a week. He also said that it would probably be at least two before he would even be willing to try. My poor baby can't walk- he has to crawl!! And he can't pee because he can't stand up by himself... lots of fun! Trick or Treating will be very interesting on Wednesday with a child who cannot walk. Overall I am just very glad that it isn't broken. I took a few pictures with my phone's camera while he was getting the xrays. ..

I wonder why I have never heard about this before?
http://glass.typepad.com/journal/2005/10/thriller_live.html
I came across it quite by accident. I googled Halloween Lexington Ky 2007 and this was at the top... I would have loved to see that! That would have been hilarious!

Even when Chris and Alex go away, the dogs usually remain. And with them there is never really quiet. But today, there is! It's just me and the fish. :)
Chris took Alex and the dogs to his parent's house. Today is set up for the pig roast day. They put up the tents and bury/ cook the pig, etc. And I get to do whatever the heck I want! Yay!!! Too bad that at the moment that happens to mean correcting a rather large batch of pictures. Sigh.
Thankfully I have all day and all night to myself... so I am sure I will end up going out sometime... Right now however, I intend to fully enjoy the quiet empty house!

Current mood: exhausted
We were in the ER last night from around 2am until after 6am... Alex came into our room crying and wheezing and I knew immediately that it was croup. He has had it at least once a year since he was one and usually we can handle it on our own but last night made er trip number 3 for the little guy.
He was freaking out which was making it harder for him to breathe. My poor baby has a bruise on each little butt cheek because they gave him two shots there - both at the same time. They had him hooked up to an oxygen meter and when they did that, his oxygen went down to the low 80s!
Once we got there, they gave him two shots of steroids, and made him breathe vaporized steroids from a enebulizer. He didn't like it at all but once he realized it was helping him to actually breathe, he calmed down a lot. He even went to sleep halfway through it for a few minutes! Then they made him breathe cold steam from it for the rest of the morning while they monitored him. Even though we have experienced this several times with him (last year his lips were turning blue because he wasn't breathing at all a few times), it still scares us pretty badly every time. Something about seeing your child struggle to breathe is quite naturally very unnerving... They had him hooked up to a little device via his finger that told his oxygen levels, and at one point, when he got upset (the shots had him literally screaming because they hurt him so bad), his oxygen levels dropped into the low 80s. They said normal is 99 for sick people and 100 for everyone else. Anything under 96 is supposedly cause for real concern. Thankfully he stayed right between 95 and 97 once they started the breathing treatment.
Tonight will be the true test. Even though he has felt pretty good (clingy and lethargic and a tad bit whiny but nothing compared to last night at all), they said it pretty much only hits them in the middle of the night a few hrs after they have gone to sleep. Not sure why... no one ever explains that one to me when I ask. Hopefully the medicine will help him stay asleep and breathing well all night long and we all get a LOT more rest than we did last night...

This was right after we got to the hospital, before any treatments. He was a very unhappy and very frightened little boy. I don't even think he noticed the camera because he was so out of it at that point. This was after the shots when they gave him the steroids through the enebulizer (the thing in his mouth). Another picture of him getting his treatment. You can tell he is starting to feel better here because he is finally relaxing because he can actually breathe! He finally fell asleep after the steroid treatment was finished. That was about 3:30am... Sleeping finally. Too bad it only lasted about half an hr. If you look closely you can see the little tear still left under his eye from crying so hard before. :( My poor baby... Watching his oxygen numbers go up and down (actually he was watching the wavy pattern representing the number). He was finally lucid enough for us to explain the thing on his finger and why he was there and it fascinated him. A picture of the monitor he was watching that had his oxygen readings on it.
Feeling a lot better! Almost time to go home! If you want to see more of these go to http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/rainbocow/

Which Sesame Street Character Are You? | | You are part Oscar the Grouch. You can be gruff and often have a chip on your shoulder. Despite your intelligence, manners (and cleanliness) are of little importance to you. At the same time, you have a few very close friends who you allow to see a softer, kinder side of you. | | You are part Cookie Monster. You are a glutton. You often make attempts at controlling yourself, but why stop yourself from getting what you really want? Cookies. Yay! Chris's dad just came and picked up Alex! This means that even though Chris will be out of town till after 9pm, I still have my night to myself- and I get to scrapbook! YAY! I was really upset because he has been working so late that every night I have worked, I had to take the monster with me That is frustrating and ironic because the whole reason I even got a job in the first place was to get a break from him! Chris obviously felt sorry for me and convinced his dad to pick Alex up n his way home. I am loved.
Chris promises that he will only be working till 8 or so every night until the end of next week. I dunno i am not counting on it . Hey, you have to do what you have to do sometimes I get that.
Now if only I could get the air conditioning working. Our air conditioner has a leak in it and every summer the coolant has to be refilled before it will work. Chris hasn't gotten around to having time to ask someone to do it yet, and so my son and I sit here in 80+ degrees with no fans because he took those to use at the shop. Sigh. Its rough seeing your three year old reclined half out of it on the couch because he is so hot his cheeks are red and his hair is wet even though he has barely moved... bleh.
An empty somewhat quiet, stifling hot house all to myself. YAY!
If you care, I have been working on a new website. It will have the same info on the blog as I put here, plus lots of other stuff. Check it out: http://rainbocow625.bravehost.com

Well, I have this to say for Tennessee: there are lots of ticks.... and other bugs... I had my first tick, (what do you call it? a bite???), I saw a huge fire ant nest, I almost picked up a huge ass wolf spider by accident while chasing a grasshopper with Alx, and I got chased by a bee!!! Why is it that when I go camping, I always have some kind of bee trauma?
We got home and checked Alex for ticks almost immediately. I'm glad we did. We found four of those little buggers on him! One on his back, one on the back of his knee, one on his butt cheek and one on his chest. The one on his chest was huge and it had no intention of coming out. Alex handled the other three very well, but the one that wouldnt come out at first scared him quite a bit.
I have several pictures that I intend to share but I am not on my computer right now so I will probably do it tomorrow. I didn't end up going down the river with Chris, (although I still kind of wish I had), because of several reasons, so instead Chris's mom, Alex and I went yard sale shopping and wandering around town.
I had a good mothers day... I was brushing my teeth by the fire when Alex walked up wtih a fist full of wild daisies and said, Happy Mothers Day mommy!" That was a pretty good feeling... later Chris gave me some cards and told me that he and Alex are going to buy me whatever computer chair I choose as my present.
We spent the rest of the evening after we got back to KY hanging out with our families and overall it was a wonderful day. :) Uneventful past the morning (and bee chasing), but still very nice.
Anyway, I am out of my mind sleepy and I am gonna go now. Later peoples.

Current mood: uncomfortable
I wore that stupid cpap machine last night for the first time. The doctor promised me I would wake up less and be for the first time in a long time, actually well rested. Not true. She also warned me however, that it would take me about 4-6 weeks to stop freaking out about it. I dunno. I kept waking up in a panic with the stupid thing on, and therefore I did not get much sleep- and today I am very very tired. Not that it's anything new to me...
Sigh. I just hope I get used to it in one or two weeks I don't think I can take feeling this yucky and freaked out all night for a month or more. Bleh.
