Our album When We Were Invented, due for release this week, received an excellent review in yesterday's Sunday Times.
'Pretty, elegant and moving, this is a notable debut', they said. They gave it four stars.

We're happy with that.

A little interview with a new music blog....

With the retail release of the album this month, we'll be changing songs from time to time over the next few weeks, to give everyone a chance to hear the whole thing. Towards the end of the month we'll be changing the tracks every few days, so if you like anything you've heard so far, pop back from time to time in the near future to hear more.

We've been really pleased by the responses of those who have heard the complete album, especially that everyone seems to have different favourites.

Best wishes

When We Were Invented, our debut album, will have it's official UK release on the 28th October 2009. It's nice to be a well-kept secret, but maybe it's time to let a few more people know...

I have no idea what Twitter is really.  A couple of people have suggested we set up a Twitter account so we have. We're like that. Over-compliant.

'I don't care if it's the f***ing best album since Pet Sounds. You've had the whole day off. You could at least have emptied the f***ing dishwasher'

'Holy crap... It's like King Crimson and Sparklehorse blended
together... '

We've loved reading your comments. One of the things that came up in discussion about a potential record deal, is that we seem to have a very high proportion of positive comments, so if you've said something nice about us, or just offered encouragement, thanks! You've made a difference. Even if we have no idea what you meant.

When I read the above it prompted me to trawl through our comments and inbox finding references to other artists. I can't think of any other band who has been compared to both Radiohead and John Denver. There could be one of course, but I'm struggling. We try to avoid  obvious influences: Dean in particular writes in a unique style. When I arrange the songs I steal ideas left, right and centre, but from no one in particular. I think this means that people all have a very different take on who we sound like. Here's a list of references to other artists that our friends have made. It's quite fun to read:

Holy crap... It's like King Crimson and Sparklehorse blended together...
There's a bit Simon & Garfunkel in your music that wakes the feelings!!....
beautiful music, the voice remember a 'kind of Chet Baker'..
a tinge of Belle and Sebastian about it, which is of course, a grand thing.
Love the lyrics, reminded me a little of Morrissey.
I have say you that this is the kind of music I ever loved, like Coldplay, Travis, Keane..
Maybe a little bit of the Shins as well.
makes me think of a combination of the Eels and Radiohead.
John Denver springs to mind.
reminded me of Aqualung, no bad thing that.
you remind me much of a band called I Am X, or better known as IAMX.
"The cooper temple clause"and "dream city film club" (Note from the TCCC: hmmm...I think I can see the connection)
It reminds me of the late Delgados.
I hear a bit Nick Drake as well!
reminded me of The beautiful South's "everybodys talkin'"
i like sweet billy pilgrim. yours reminds me slightly of theirs, mood-wise.
reminds me a little of Portishead and the Bristol trip-hop sound.
almost Paul Heaton-esque style..
Reminds of the 70s and Tales Of The Unexpected, for reasons I'm at a loss to explain. And the Scott Walker stuff when he went mad (the good stuff, in my opinion).
have you been listening to james blunt?only joking!
I am a big fan of Midlake and you seem to have those same whimsical qualities.
reminds me a little of grandaddy - no bad thing mind..
The voice reminds slightly of the group SHIN (I think Australian)

And now, the comments that just try to describe the sound without nodding towards anyone. The great thing about myspace is that it  allows this feedback. I've been playing music for quite a while and no one has ever come up to me after a gig and said 'When I listen to it I magine that I'm riding a beautiful white horse through a meadow of wildflowers.' Only on myspace... Some of these are quite bizarre and still have me scratching my head: 'yes I like your banjo heart in sea of martini' ...er...
Your comments have been very touching, sometimes confusing, often very funny. I hope you'll forgive us the self-indulgence of repeating some of our favourites:

.. it distinctly reminds me of something, but can't put my finger on what.

but I believe that if you have an interesting music probably the way of thinking of the group is interesting also, until they have stolen it from someone else, jeje

my mother's coat
it goes flying about
it goes flapping it's tails above the schoolyard
it holds the fragrance of milk and compassion.
lays resting on my doorstep.
thanks temple cloud country,
ps.
when's the next club meeting?

feelings of nostalgia....they waft from the songs like the aroma of Play-Doh.

Your sound is so chilled, I think my heart nearly stopped beating! Bit of a worry really

Awesome. Creepy and awesome go together like peas and carrots and soup.

Deliver my soul from the sword! I've got you here with me now!!! xx HOT DAMN!

"When the life leave" is really great ! It makes me a little bit sad but maybe it's because of the rainy weather..? :+)

total kudos for mentioning Pete Duel, one of my childhood idols!!!

MUSIC IS THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT VALUE AND THE THERE"S THE TEMPLE CLOUD COUNTRY CLUB WITHIN THE HINTS:

yes I like your banjo heart in sea of martini

When I listen to it I imagine that I'm riding a beautiful white horse through a meadow of wildflowers.

Be careful with melancholy...

I will cheerish my membership to The Temple Cloud Country Club. I promise to not run in the poolarea & always keep a good attitude.

A cheese & pickle sandwich & a pint of mild please.

it reminds me of crispy lettuce

you guys have the best band name around--I love it.

Your songs are genial and I love them!

in what way do you reprazent Temple Cloud? i'm from there and I'm the biggest thing on the hip hop scene here (Note From the TCCC: Temple Cloud is a village in Somerset UK with a population of about 1500. We named ourselves after it but we have no connection other than that I used to drive up and down the A37 quite a bit. Apologies to the Temple Cloud Massive)

beautyfull. it seems as everything what i love. I have faith in airplanes too.

Are you not going to sit with me while i listen :-)

And all the ones that just say something like 'great tunes, thanks guys' are really appreciated as well.

Many, many thanks, and best wishes from The Temple Cloud Country Club.

The Temple Cloud Country Club isn't really a club, we don't play country (any more) and we're not from Temple Cloud, which is a small village near Bristol, UK.

There are only two members of the band, though others have been known to help out. Maybe the most surprising and unusual thing about the band is that the two band members have at no stage met during the recording of the album. One lives in Turkey, the other the UK. The tracks were recorded in studios 2000 miles apart. Each song started as a rough demo with acoustic guitar from Dean which was then bounced back and forth via email as various instruments were added, sections edited out or extended, and vocals finalised. The final mixing process was done in the UK, with various candidate mixes still to-ing and fro-ing as we found a mix we both agreed on.

And somehow, from this strange process, came these songs and arrangements, as surprising to us as to anyone else.
