GLEN CAMPBELL’S TOP TRACKS REMASTERED FOR NEW ‘GREATEST HITS’ CD & DIGITAL COLLECTION

Career-Spanning Collection, to be Released February 10 by Capitol/EMI, Includes Campbell’s Most Popular Grammy-Winning and Chart-Topping Hits

Hollywood, California – December 9, 2008 – 16 of Glen Campbell’s most popular hits have been remastered by Capitol/EMI for Glen Campbell: Greatest Hits, a new CD and digital collection to be released February 10.  Campbell’s triple Grammy-winning 1967 single, “Gentle On My Mind,” is included, as well as his first Top 10 hit, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” the title track from his 1968 Grammy winner for Album of the Year, and the #1 smash singles “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston.” Two tracks from Campbell’s critically-acclaimed 2008 album, Meet Glen Campbell, are also included.

In 1969, Glen Campbell had it all – sunny good looks, dazzling guitar chops, a breathtaking tenor voice, and his own network television show. “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” was weekly destination viewing for millions on Sunday nights because of the abundant talents of its star. A string of gigantic hit records had brought Campbell to this career pinnacle.

The “Goodtime Hour” theme song was John Hartford’s lilting “Gentle On My Mind,” which Campbell had brought to fame in 1967, winning Grammy Awards for the Song, Single and Male Vocal Performance of the Year. The follow-up single, Jimmy Webb’s stunningly melodic “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” became Campbell’s first Top 10 hit and led to the singer and guitarist’s close association with that songwriter, as well as 1968’s Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Campbell’s version of Webb’s haunting “Wichita Lineman” was hot on the charts the week the star’s TV show debuted in January 1969, and his thrilling performance of Webb’s “Galveston” followed it to #1 on the charts just a few weeks later.  Other golden tunes that led to Glen Campbell’s national stature included 1968’s “Dreams of the Everyday Housewife,” “I Wanna Live” and “Hey Little One.” This cluster of 1960s classics was only the beginning. By the time his TV series wound down in the summer of 1972, Campbell had struck gold with “Try a Little Kindness,” “Honey Come Back” and “True Grit,” the title tune of his cinematic debut co-starring the iconic John Wayne.

In addition to his gleaming vocals, most of those records were characterized by Campbell’s prominent guitar lines and lush, sweeping string arrangements by producer Al De Lory. This partnership continued with 1970’s “It’s Only Make Believe,” Campbell’s hit revival of Conway Twitty’s classic ballad.

A respected and sought-after session guitarist, Campbell’s playing is heard on many of America’s greatest popular songs of the era, including Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers In The Night,” The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas,” five tracks on The Beach Boys’ seminal 1966 album, Pet Sounds (Campbell also toured with The Beach Boys in 1965). Campbell also performed on recordings by Ricky Nelson, Nat King Cole, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, Wayne Newton, and on Phil Spector-produced hits, including Darlene Love & the Crystals’ "He's A Rebel" and The Ronettes’ "Be My Baby," among others.

In the mid 1970s, Campbell teamed with producers Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, who at the time were mostly known for working with rhythm-and-blues artists such as The Four Tops and Tavares. This new partnership resulted in yet another career-defining single, 1975’s soaring “Rhinestone Cowboy.” The team also created the succeeding hit, “Country Boy (You Got Your Feet in L.A.),” which Lambert and Potter co-wrote for Campbell.

In 1977, Campbell added the skill of record producing to his resume. Collaborating with co-producer Gary Klein, he recorded the funky “Southern Nights,” written by New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint. This became yet another Campbell career milestone.

In 2008, Campbell returned to Capitol Records and released his first new studio album in 13 years, Meet Glen Campbell. Produced by Julian Raymond, the critically-acclaimed album includes songs from the repertoires of Green Day, Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, The Replacements and other seemingly unlikely artists, which pleasantly surprised fans and journalists around the world. “Glen Campbell is still on the line with a rocking new CD,” raved USA Today.  “Campbell, at 72, has entered extraordinary new territory,” said Daily Variety, while Relix magazine called Meet Glen Campbell “a contender for comeback album of the year.”

In a legendary music career that spans more than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. In addition to his five Grammy Awards, Campbell has been honored with trophies for Male Vocalist Of The Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy Of Country Music (ACM).  Inducted into the CMA’s Hall Of Fame, he has also been awarded its top Entertainer Of The Year honors, and the ACM has honored him with its prestigious Pioneer Award.

Blender magazine has inducted “Wichita Lineman” to its list of “Greatest Songs Ever,” and the UK’s New Musical Express ranked “Lineman” at #46 in its list of “The 100 Greatest Singles, Ever.” Glen Campbell has released more than 75 albums, which have sold in excess of 40 million copies around the world. Of his 76 charting releases, 27 have reached Billboard’s Top 10.

GLEN CAMPBELL RETURNS TO CAPITOL RECORDS FOR HIS DYNAMIC NEW STUDIO ALBUM, MEET GLEN CAMPBELL

New Album to be Released August 19; Campbell to Premiere Select Songs at Stagecoach Festival on Friday, May

Hollywood, California – April 29, 2008
– In a legendary music career that spans more than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. For Meet Glen Campbell, his inspired, dynamic new studio album, the music icon has returned to his longtime label home, Capitol Records. Meet Glen Campbell will be released on August 19 on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally.

The songs on the album all strike a personal and musical chord with Campbell. He has reinterpreted and re-imagined both older and contemporary songs with his own signature vocal and guitar arrangements. A true musician's musician, Campbell's distinct guitar playing, along with the clarity and emotion of his powerful vocal performance, come together to give new life to the songs he selected for Meet Glen Campbell.

The influential singer, guitarist and stylist, who has long made others' songs his own, is doing it again, recording high-spirited, emotionally charged versions of tracks that have personally moved and inspired him. Campbell's intimate performances convey an autobiographical and deeply personal connection to the album's songs, which include Travis' "Sing," Tom Petty's "Angel Dream" and "Walls," The Replacements' "Sadly Beautiful," U2's "All I Want Is You," The Velvet Underground's "Jesus," and Jackson Browne's "These Days," among others.

"I really like all of the songs and I had a great time recording them. While I didn't write these songs, this sounds like a Glen Campbell album, which is important to me," says Glen Campbell.

A musician at heart, Campbell has maintained a sense of truth, respect and authenticity throughout his career. The songs on his new album were written by others, but become undeniably Campbell's own as he has personally styled them for the new album. Titled evocatively by design, the album is certain to surprise and delight longtime fans and turn many new ears to the music icon's legendary career. Meet Glen Campbell welcomes discovery and re-discovery of the legend and his music.

Recorded in March and April at The Recording Studio and Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles, Meet Glen Campbell is produced by Julian Raymond (Rosanne Cash, Fastball, Shawn Mullins, Wallflowers) with engineer/co-producer Howard Willing. The album features musical contributions by Campbell contemporaries as well as younger rock and alt-country artists who joined him in the studio, including Cheap Trick's Robin Zander, Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Jason Faulkner from Jellyfish, and Chris Chaney from Jane's Addiction. Campbell's sons and daughters, who regularly perform with their father, recorded backing vocals for the tracks, providing the album's warm family tone.

Conceived by Julian Raymond to honor Campbell's musical legacy while showcasing his creative versatility and vitality, Meet Glen Campbell has been long in the making since its creative inception to the recent studio sessions. Says Raymond of the new album, "I've been listening to Glen since I was nine years old, so making this record is an honor and a dream come true. I am incredibly proud of this project."

Meet Glen Campbell begins an exciting new chapter in the 50-year career of one of America's most beloved musical icons. This Friday, May 2, during his set at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, Campbell will be joined onstage by special guests to premiere select songs from his new album.

A Brief History
Hailing from Arkansas, Glen Campbell made his way to Los Angeles in 1961, after performing for several years as a member of his uncle's band in Albuquerque. Soon recognized for his phenomenal guitar playing and singing, he became a key member of the "Wrecking Crew," an influential group of LA studio musicians.

A respected and sought-after session guitarist, his playing is heard on many of America's greatest popular songs of the era, including Frank Sinatra's "Strangers In The Night," The Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas," five tracks on The Beach Boys' seminal 1966 album, Pet Sounds (Campbell also toured with The Beach Boys in 1965). Campbell also performed on recordings by Ricky Nelson, Nat King Cole, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, Wayne Newton, and on Phil Spector-produced hits, including Darlene Love & the Crystals' "He's A Rebel" and The Ronettes' "Be My Baby," among others.

When Campbell broke through as a chart-topping solo artist in 1967, his sound embodied the new American West. His pop-country style steered away from cowboy nostalgia and honed in on America's new search for balance and the preservation of classic western traditions as the suburbs encroached on rural life in a new, fast-paced sprawl of tract homes, freeways and TV dinners.

He made musical history in 1967 by sweeping the Grammys' song and performance awards in both the Country and Pop categories. "Gentle On My Mind" snatched the honors for Best Country & Western Recording and Best Country & Western Solo Vocal Performance, while "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" won for Pop Best Vocal Performance, Male and Best Contemporary Male Solo Vocal Performance. The songs' album source, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, was honored with the coveted Album Of The Year Grammy Award in 1968.

Campbell also scored his first 1 Country hit that year with "I Wanna Live." His success continued and crossed genre chart lines with the late 1968 release of his Country and Adult Contemporary 1, "Wichita Lineman." In 1969, "Galveston" revisited that crossover 1 chart success and also made the Pop chart's Top 5, and Campbell's striking good-looks and folksy charm made him an instant television success with his variety series, "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour." Seen in millions of homes across the U.S. for more than three seasons, Glen Campbell became a household name and a true entertainment superstar. The show was also broadcasted internationally by the BBC, introducing him to an even wider audience.

In addition to his five Grammy Awards, Campbell has been honored with trophies for Male Vocalist Of The Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy Of Country Music (ACM). In addition to being inducted into the CMA's Hall Of Fame, he has been awarded its top Entertainer Of The Year honors, and the ACM has honored him with its prestigious Pioneer Award.

Blender magazine has inducted "Wichita Lineman" to its list of "Greatest Songs Ever," and the UK's New Musical Express ranked "Lineman" at 46 in its list of "The 100 Greatest Singles, Ever." Glen Campbell has released more than 70 albums, which have sold in excess of 40 million copies around the world. Of his 75 charting releases, 27 have reached Billboard's Top 10.

During its three-year primetime run, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour ranked among the most successful variety shows in television history. After years in the vaults, Time Life has packaged the variety show's best performances for the first time on DVD in Glen Campbell Goodtimes Again, a seventy-five minute compilation that features duets with Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and Cher, among others. In addition, the DVD includes Glen's original on-camera introductions as well as a newly taped exclusive interview featuring insights into the show and its numerous guests.

Glen Campbell Goodtimes Again will be available at retail on October 2, but will first be featured as pledge premium during PBS's August fund drive and will air nationally on PBS stations starting September.

The Goodtime Hour, which ran on CBS from January 1969 – June 1972, innocently knocked down the stylistic walls between pop, country and R&B. Campbell's first performance on the show was a rendition of Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life,"and his guests veered from gritty soul singer Ray Charles to pop vocalist B.J. Thomas to country personality Roger Miller. Campbell purposely ignored genres in building the guest list for each episode, believing that quality trumped promotion.

"I didn't have anyone on because they were country, rock, pop," Campbell says. "I had them on because they were talented."

Goodtimes Again demonstrates Campbell's wide musical scope, which allowed him and his guests to team effectively to cross stylistic boundaries. He performed with some of the era's biggest stars on their own hits as well as on songs that have gone on to become cultural signposts. Campbell is paired, for example, with Rick Nelson on the Cajun-flavored "Louisiana Man," with Bobbie Gentry on the pop ballad "Let It Be Me," and with Johnny Cash on the country trademark "Folsom Prison Blues." The DVD also features two of Bob Dylan's iconoclastic tunes, "Don't Think Twice, That's All Right," performed with Anne Murray; and "All I Really Want To Do," sung with Cher.

Goodtimes Again also showcases Campbell's prowess as a guitar player and vocalist on his own hits—including "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," "True Grit" and "Gentle On My Mind"—many of them with banjo/guitar wizard John Hartford at his side.

Produced by High Five Entertainment, the DVD features Campbell's intimate commentary on each of the performances, plus a bonus interview, recorded in May 2007 at the Moon River Theater in Branson, MO, in which Campbell reflects on the TV show and his multi-faceted career.

Born in Arkansas, Campbell brought a heartland sensibility to the pop world when he moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s. He quickly became an in-demand session musician, who played guitar on thousands of records, including hits by some someo of the most popular musical artists of that era, including Frank Sinatra, The Righteous Brothers, Jan & Dean, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard and The Beach Boys, among many others. He toured for six months in 1965 as a replacement for Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson, who had produced one of Campbell's early pop singles.

Campbell had played on an album by the Smothers Brothers comedy team. After an appearance on The Joey Bishop Show, Campbell received a call from Tommy Smothers, who just happened to see the episode. As a result, Campbell appeared on several of the Smothers Brothers' CBS variety shows and was so well received that Tom Smothers asked him to host the Summer Brothers Smothers Show. Shortly thereafter, CBS-TV added The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour to their primetime schedule. Tom Smothers produced several episodes of the first season.

Shot at Television City in Hollywood, The Goodtime Hour showcased Campbell's multiple talents and likable personality. It became a showplace for some of the top country, rock, R&B and pop artists. The show also helped to cement his position as an entertainer, eventually bringing him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame and numerous other honors. The Goodtime Hour introduced his talents to a mass audience around the world, he continues to perform at the top venues both in the US and internationally to this day.
