There’s an article on the BBC news site about the appearance Porcupine
Tree in this week’s UK albums charts. The piece ponders the surge of
interest in groups who are are often given the progressive rock tag.
"It's no coincidence we are seeing bands like Muse, Porcupine Tree,
Sigur Ros, Flaming Lips and The Mars Volta having top 30 albums,
because I don't think ambition is a dirty word any more” says SW. You
can read the whole piece here.
Elsewhere, Ohio’s News-Herald newspaper
ran a preview piece ahead of the band’s sell-out show at Cleveland’s
House of Blues. “Porcupine Tree fans, often a zealous and cult-like
following, will be happy to hear the band plans on playing "The
Incident" nearly in its entirety at its show, with only a few catalog
tracks added at the end off the night. It's this dedication or focus to
the group's art that perhaps explains why mainstream attention has so
far remained elusive.”
Finally, reviewer Jordan Blum of webmag, adequacy.net
in his piece on The Incident made this observation. “As I’ve said
before, go out and discover some of the good music being made today;
music with ambition, with ideas, with musicianship, with songwriting
ability. The Incident is an incident in music that must be
acknowledged.”
Porcupine Tree are featured on the cover New Jersey’s alt mag, The
Aquarian Weekly. In the interview, SW comments upon what he regards as
the increasingly unadventurous nature of music being listened to by so
many people at the moment. “Nowadays, the music the kids listen to is
to is more conservative than the music their parents listened to. Their
parents were listening to The Smiths or Slayer or Pink Floyd. Now the
kids are listening to Green Day and Metallica, which is much more
conservative musically than what their parents were listening to, and I
think this is the first generation you could say that of.” You can read the full article here.
This brief preview for the forthcoming sell out show in Toronto
describes The Incident as consisting, in part at leasr, of “pummeling,
psychedelic proceedings”. Get the whole short but sweet piece here.
Chartattack welcomes The Incident as what it regards as a return to form for the group and finally, there’s this piece wherein SW argues that music is not a product and offers some advice about how to listen to the new album.

The word in from our pals in Holland is that The Incident has entered
the Dutch charts at #5. Good news indeed, especially when you consider
that FOABP came into the same charts back in 2007 at #13. Meanwhile
back in the UK, the mid-week charts have PT at #12.
Elsewhere, Bruce Dickinson's Friday Rock Show on BBC -6 Music will be
featuring PT. The show runs at 9.00 p.m. - 12.00 p.m. and will be
available for seven days on the BBC iPlayer. Check out the Friday Rock
Show page here.

First, as posted on the Porcupine Tree site:
"Gavin Harrison is the subject of an interview in which he highlights
some of the rhythmic illusions which went into the making of Time
Flies; his bemusement at being voted best progressive rock drummer
three years in a row; creative choices and some of the compromises that
have been made in his time with the band. You can read the full
interview here.
There’s a new set of photographs detailing the rehearsals and
soundcheck ahead of the band’s show in Seattle over on The Incident on
Tour photoblog which you can access over on the main website's tour page.
Finally, here’s a short take on the album from the Soundshock site." Interview with Steven from dprp.netSecondly, Be sure to check out this excellent interview with Steven, in which he discusses concepts behind The Incident and more! http://www.dprp.net/specials/2009_porcupinetree/

Head over to porcupinetree.com
to check out the new look Porcupine Tree website, launched to coincide
with the release of the band's new album The Incident. Apart from a
completely revamped look, the main difference you will notice is that
there is now a comprehensive media player on the home page. This
includes new and archive video material. Look out especially for an
exclusive visual preview of the band's next DVD in the shape of a fully
edited version of Way Out of Here from this work in progress, due for
release in the Spring. Also check out the film that Lasse Hoile shot
for Glass Arm Shattering from the Deadwing album in 2005 - because this
song was dropped after only 2 or 3 performances this beautiful film has
hardly ever been seen. We are still adding content to the new site,
but available now are some new band photographs, and some Incident
themed wallpapers. Finally there is a major development with the
Porcupine Tree mail order store, which is that there is now a US based
setup, which means US fans can save substantially on shipping, instead
of having to pay shipping charges from the UK. You can link direct to
the US store here. Please note that at present the US store only carries tour merchandise, not audio / video releases. There is a whole range of new Incident related merchandise available in
both the Porcupine Tree UK and US stores. The US store is a brand new
addition following requests from fans. Check out the clothing. accessories and artwork pages on the European store, or the US store.
All of these items, apart from the the denim jacket and coffee mug
which remain mail order only, will also be sold at the shows on the
forthcoming tour dates - but please note that while you will save on
shipping by buying at a show, most venues these days add a concession
fee to each item (sometimes as much as 35%) which means it may actually
work out cheaper for you to pay the shipping. This is something that is
unfortunately beyond the band's control and can vary from venue to
venue.
