taken a while but i've finally gotten around to reviewing the footage and photos from the seaworthy and adrian klumpes joint launch at the stone gallery in february. the seaworthy stuff i'm working into a clip so that'll come later still. the adrian stuff turned out pretty well, so i've uploaded a clip of the title track from the record to youtube.

the record is out on the leaf label, and adrian can be found here: www.myspace.com/adrianklumpes. he makes instrument music based around the piano, imbuing it with an intensity and force despite the calm and quiet he creates. edgy tranquility is what he calls it, which i wholeheartedly agree with. he also plays in the bands triosk and pivot.

in other news, i'm discovering this whole new aspect of the athens, ga scene which came before the elephant 6 collective that i never knew about (see dvd below). b-b-que killers and time joy and flat duo jets et al. its the new gem in my collection.

Peter Bjorn and John at the Metro Theatre last night. I wondered with trepidation whether their subtle sound might be overwhelmed by the space. no need to worry, they rose to the occasion in the finest possible way, and with that the heart soared and the body responded. most of the songs were reworked significantly to fit into a venue of this nature. it was a rockin' and almost raw interpretation of recordings which feature a lot of synths and other electronic devices. loved it, loved it.

and seeing as i'm getting into the youtube spirit, here's some Mates of State from the Annandale hotel from July last year. again expectations were exceeded. pop music warms my heart to no end. to it, i will remain faithful forever and a day.

ok so this week alone, i've been lucky enough to add 2 more shows to my list of all-time top 20 best gigs i've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. monday night calexico blew my mind and made me want to learn the trumpet so i can start my own mariachi party band (thanks to the generosity of my friend, sam shinazzi and by extension, aaron kurnow!) and then wednesday night, the wonderful ian mackaye and amy farina who play together as the evens. it goes without saying that ian mackaye is a living legend and a hero to many. a truly nice guy who is genuinely interested in meeting tongue-tied fans like myself. he has this piercing eyes which are observing the crowd and soaking it all in, even as he's singing to us and inspiring us to shout out at the top of our lungs "the police will not be excused!". it was a call to arms and who better to lead us?

anyway i didn't intend to video the gig otherwise i would've actually taken my video camera, but i was having such a good time dancing and singing and i didn't ever want to forget the moment. so i've put up the videos on youtube even though the picture is shaky and the audio, well barely audible. but it's ian mackaye yo!
