Hey friends!
I just felt compelled to write a blog, I guess, because of what's been on my mind lately and how excited I am right now.
You know, I feel like something really special is happening right now. Electronic music has got exciting again (not that it ever WASN'T!) but you know what I mean.
I may be showing my age but The Chemical Brothers were the atomic bomb for me. 'Dig Your Own Hole' is in my Top 5. They are the kings. I've seen them at least 10 times and never once been disappointed.
But I saw Deadmau5 at The Roundhouse the other week and, no lie, my eyes were actually welling up because of the big softy I am. It was amazing. And what's more, I was stone cold sober (yeah, o.k. I admit when I saw the Chems I wasn't, but that was my dumbass choice. Nothing to do with them being not as good as Deadmau5). But to have tears streaming down your cheeks when you're sober as hell is something I've never experienced before. And it was as good as any drug.
There is a revolution happening right now. The internet has opened up a whole new way to get an artist's music out to people. You don't have to be signed to get heard anymore. Blogs are getting to be more important than magazine reviews I guess. Good or bad?? Feel free to comment.
But right now I'm listening to my USB recording of Deadmau5's set on my i-Pod. Available 10 MINUTES AFTER THE SHOW!! Electronic music is the way forward. Technology is the way forward. It's ALMOST like punk again. Major labels don't know what to do because kids are just DOING THEIR THING. Which is just the way it is. I'm signed to Mute / EMI and (lucky me) things are good there right now. But there's a lot of bad stuff happening right now in the music industry which is heart-breaking and soul-destroying. All I can say is, when it passes, there will have been a revolution in technology. And personally that leaves me with a hopeful smile on my face and hope in my heart.
I hope it leaves a smile on your face too :).
So, PLEASE comment on what I've said. Like they say - rate it, even if you hate it :).
I'll leave you with my philosophical motto :).
USING GUITARS IS LIKE RIDING A BICYCLE WHEN YOU COULD BE FLYING A JET-PLANE.
ILLECTRONIC MUSIC TIL THE DAY I DIE. ILLECTRONIC MUSIC IS TIMELESS. Thanks for listening!!
Much love,
James xxxx
