Hey all, Thanks so much for being part of Thrill the World this year! It looks like it's going to be really fab - a *lot* of folks have been in touch saying they're going to dance with us. Here are the details we have on the last practices, and the event itself: --We have a practice from six to eight pm tomorrow (Friday!) at Fremont UMC, 2620 NE Fremont. --You can also practice at home and learn it on your own. Go to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/vie..w_play_list?p=7CD58866B573..1711&search_query=thrill+t..he+world
On Saturday, we have a practice from 2:30 to 4:30 at Conduit Dance Studios - this practice is going to be run-throughs only. We will not break down the dance very much, if at all; please make sure you've had some time to practice the dance before attending this practice. It's meant to get folks comfortable dancing the full dance. Please do not wear makeup to the Conduit practice; we need to keep their floor and facility as clean as possible. There are restrooms outside the studio that folks can use to get fully zombified after the practice with your own mirrors and makeup.
You are not required to have attended any of the official practices in order to dance with us! Lots of folks have been practicing on their own.
Beginning at 4:30, we'll start checking people in at the "Shemanski Fountain" park block - it's the northernmost of the South Park Blocks, behind the Schnitz, bounded by Main and Salmon, and 9th and Park. This block has a small statue of Rebecca inside a cupola in the middle of the block. The 'entrance' to the meetpoint we're using is the northeast corner of the block, at Park and Salmon. It'll be clear when you arrive; it's the only corner of the block that has a staircase.Come up the stairs, and we'll check you in!
All dancers are required to be at the meetpoint by 5:20 on Saturday - if you're participating in the Zombie Walk, please leave a bit early and come join us. The Zombie Walk ends by 5:20 or so at Pioneer Square, so you don't have to miss much.
No dancers should be at the Square waiting for us to arrive. We need the Square clear, to set up equipment and to prevent confusion - there will be a whole bunch of people there already that we'll need to coordinate. Please respect us on this point and come to the meetpoint in the park blocks
At the meetpoint, folks will sign in (giving us permission to film and take photos, and share those media with the TTW headquarters for their promo work) and we'll collect donations for SMYRC. At 5:20, we'll head to Pioneer Square together as one zombie corps.
The weather is supposed to be clear - if you're comfortable doing so, please lie down in the Square before we begin the dance. At 5:30 - with a signal from the Thill the World headquarters, we'll turn the music on - and the dance begins.

Dancing Zombies Take Over the World; Portland Hosts 3rd Annual Thrill the World SMYRC Benefit PORTLAND, Ore. — Oct. 24, 2009 — It's a 6-minute dance, full of moves like the "march booty swim," "shuffle ha slide" and "hip n' roar." YouTube videos abound of people trying their hand at "Thriller" – wedding parties, Filipino prisoners and the cast of "13 going on 30" - but there's something so much cooler about a bunch of Portland hipsters, dancers and freaks covered in fake blood and dirt, all doing synchronized movements to Michael Jackson's classic song. Born out of a Canadian woman's dream to break the world record for the most amount of zombies to perform Michael Jackson's "Thriller" choreography at once, last year's Thrill the World set a new world record with the Record Holders Republic, with 4,179 people from 10 nations simultaneously performing the Thriller dance (Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Scotland, United States of America, and Wales); 67 of those dancers were from Portland. This year's worldwide goal: 270,000 participants to break a Guinness World Record; Michael would be proud.
Locally, Portland Thrill the World organizers are hoping to up the ante on Saturday Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. PT. The site is a secret; this year's event will be a flash mob and the location will be disclosed the week of the event. Donations are $5+, all ages, and all proceeds will benefit Portland's Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC), an outreach center for Portland's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth. Last year's event raised $600. Through individual and family counseling, leadership development, outreach and public speaking, specialized skill building programs, and the recreation center, SMYRC helps young people succeed in their education, cultivates peer and community support, improves personal health, and fosters employment readiness. Dancers will have to learn the dance ahead of time. Practices will be at Fremont UMC, 2620 NE Fremont in Portland (we'll teach you the dance or you can use this time to practice from last year!):
Sunday, October 11th, 6-8 pm; Friday, October 16th, 6-8 pm; Sunday, October 18th, 3-5 pm; Friday, October 23rd, 6-8 pm. The last practice will be on the day of the dance, 2:30 to 4:30 pm at Conduit Dance Studio, 918 SW Yamhill #418. thrill the world pdx 2009 saturday, oct. 24 worldwide dance at 5:30 (Pacific time)

final location to be announced week of event. we'll be flashmobbing this year, so you'll have to wait for more info. ;)
you are MORE than welcome to host your own practices with friends outside of these - just download the script and videos from www.thrilltheworld.com. we strongly encourage this for those who already know the dance but need a refresher, and who want to recruit others to join in the fun. if you do host your own practice, send us a note so we can keep track!
fyi, too, you only need to come to one or two practices to pick this up. the more you do it on your own, the easier it becomes!

!!!!!!! thrill the world pdx 2008 is happening tomorrow !!!!!!
time flies fast. seriously. we know how hard all of you awesome and steadfast zombies have worked to learn this dance. and to practice it over and over again. and sweat like there's no tomorrow. oh yes, we know.
(and for those of you who know it and haven't practiced – we know what you'll be doing tonight. either playing thriller really loud in your living room or coming to the q center from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight - for some final run-thrus/refreshers.)
because we want to see all of you tomorrow morning!!!
rose city rollers airplane hangar at oaks park, across from the roller rink (you know, by the sellwood bridge)
be there at 10 a.m. for registration (volunteers and anyone else who wants to help out anything – and we do need help - please be there by 9:45 a.m.)
practice from 10:15 to 10:45. break for any last minute makeup you didn't already put on before you got there. water. and then...
simultaneous worldwide thriller dance at exactly 11 a.m. pst!!!!
$5 all ages, dancers and onlookers alike. ALL proceeds go to SMYRC (Portland Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center).
please encourage your family and friends to come watch.
(sorry, no pets allowed. zombies make them nervous).
bring water bottle/water. wear good shoes. try for some layers, too, as it could very well be REALLY COLD in the hangar in the morning until you warm up with the dance. tell onlookers to stay warm.
dancers - what to do before you get there? eat. drink. that gooey blood stuff? make sure it's totally dry before you come in the hanger. rose city rollers don't want to get corn syrup all over their skates and we don't want to clean it up. if you have a ton of makeup you want to put on, put it on before you come. unless you only need 10 minutes before the dance. remember – the only facilities consist of a portapotty. (aren't we making this sound glamorous?)
we can't wait!!! ahhhhhhhh!!! see you in the morning, zombies!!!!

http://blogout. justout. com/?p=3238
