My Fellow Californians,

I normally try to stay out of politics because I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion and they probably don't wanna hear mine. If you don't want to hear me, then stop reading here and have a nice day.

But today I am very distraught and sad over yesterday's events in California.

The people of the state passed Proposition 8 which effectively bans marriage between two people of the same sex in our state. The reason why this affects me is because several friends or acquaintances of mine were recently married. Now what?

Those of you who voted for it should personally apologize to these people. They are citizens just like you whose rights you just trampled over.

I drove around my city and saw people standing in corners asking for a 'yes' vote to Proposition 8. Do you know that these people included children? Most of these groups were religious. Churches encouraged their congregations to vote against it en masse.

They claim to seek to protect children and families. Ironic that they would then have those children protesting against what they're not supposed to be taught about. And kudos for teaching your children to hate!

The institution of marriage is something that straight people have been shitting on for years. Everyone knows that.

The argument that marriage is the union of a man and a woman is one rooted in religious belief. And religious beliefs have no room in politics. This country was founded by people trying to escape religious persecution. Why are we making what is in essence a religious tenet part of civil policy?

You may not agree with me on any of these points. But guess what? I don't give a rat's ass.

Why?

Shame on you, California. You should know better. I am embarrassed for you. You have just shown to the world how ignorant, intolerant, and flat out stupid you really are. Shame on you!
