Rick was the best friend I have ever had. He co-wrote my first album with me and a few songs on my second. He made me laugh when I wanted to cry. He had such an amazing sense of humor and the biggest heart in the world. I miss him alot.

I have uploaded a new song. It's called Jenna's Journey. It is in memory of a beautiful seventeen year old girl who passed away this past September. She had been battling a painful type of cancer since she was 15. If you have facebook, you can read her mom and dads journal entries for the past two years. The group is called Jenna's Journey.

Jenna's Journey

Mama please don't worry
I'm in a brighter place
I'm laughing with the Angels
And there is no more pain
My time on Earth is over
But I'm alive and well
You know I'm not lying
Because you could always tell

You were always there to hold my hand
From the time that my life began
dry your tears and don't be sad
I had everything a girl could hope to have
I had your love your strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

Daddy please stop crying
You're breaking my heart
I know that you miss me
But I'm really not that far
Whenever you need me
Just look up to see my face
I'll always be your princess
Even time can not erase

You were always there to calm my fears
Every single day for seventeen years
Dry your eyes and don't be sad
See that picture and that great big smile I had
You gave me love and strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

You were always there to hold my hand
From the time that my life began
dry your tears and don't be sad
I had everything a girl could hope to have
I had your love your strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

You gave me love and strength
Every step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

A thought, a dream, a word, "Music" Songs of the heart is where they will come from.

You put into the minds of people that love your music and singing, a thought, a dream, or just one simple word. But which ever one it is it all comes from you, in the way you put yourself into your music and then the way you sing your songs, it makes us all stop and take just a little pause in life to dream and think.

Three years ago I was scanning the myspace site when I happened to come across a singer, song-writer asking for people to listen to her music, the song "Second Chances" and as I listened to the song all that rushed through my mind was WOW. Never in my life had I heard someone put themselves into their music as this person had done, I could feel ever part of every word she sang and knew it had to come from the heart, because a song that had that much emotion in it had to come from her heart. Words can be put down on paper and made into a song, and that's just what it is, a song on paper.. But word that come from the heart and made into music and song has meaning, when a song causes a person to pause in life and dream of someone or something, than it is truely a song worth listing too.

I have listened to all you music and your singing and still all I can say is WOW. And my wish for you is that your heart never stops finding the words for your music and singing.
And I will always be here to hear your music..

I hope you have gotten a chance to hear my new song, Black tears. If not, Here is a link to it!

This song has got its first public review! A music blogger named Steve Gilmore on SoundClick.com has done this! Im very honored and thankful for his words. Here it is :)

I am an internet musician who has been reviewing FREE internet only musicians for many years. I specialise in reviewing Unsigned artists ONLY, and generally work out of three music sites: Soundclick, MP3 Unsigned and Songplanet. I review between 40 - 50 new tracks EVERY month so it's always worthwhile to bookmark this blog or join one of the sites I have mentioned....

Jodi Ann - Black Tears

Hear The Track Here

Despite my initial misgivings about Soundclick's change of style a while back, I must admit I have found a couple of those improvements very useful. The element I had most trepidation about was the whole 'friends' thing so prevelant on social networking sites. When Soundclick introduced that I did groan a bit but have since found it a great source of new people and new - dare I say this - friends. That's how I met Jodi Ann. OK, let me 'fess up. Y'all know I am a sucker for a pretty face, so it's useless to deny it, so when she asked me to listen to Black Tears how could I deny her?. I mean, look at that smile.

Harumph, harumph, back to business...

There is an air about her image and Soundclick page too that brings you to suspect that Jodi Ann is a serious lady about her music and even the merest of listens to this track will show you an artist who is comfortable in what she is doing. It's that professional edge that piqued my curiousity enough to pursue it for review and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Black Tears was billed as Bluegrass, a country favourite of mine. Black Tears is, obviously, aimed at the American country market - and that isn't normally a genre I like. In fact, there are some elements about 'Nashville' C&W that should have been strangled in the studio, all IMHO of course. The showbizzy side of this particular genre has its real stars (Dolly Parton being one of my own picks for that honour) but a lot more non-entities playing music so vacuous it makes me want to hurl.

I mentioned Dolly because the comparisons are obvious. No matter what I feel about Jodi Ann's music it would be filtered through that viewpoint. And Dolly is some big shoes to fill. Songs are what this is all about right enough, but it is also about doing with authority and conviction. On all counts, Black Tears delivers exactly what you would expect, showing that Jodi Ann knows exactly what she wants musically and gets it. Soundclick has a very vibrant and extensive country community, many of which I notice have posted comments on the track. All to the good because when you find something this good on Soundclick, you have to spread the word. Black Tears is a terrific song and well worth a listen even if country music is not normally your thing.

Go on, dare to be different. Highly Recommended commercial country (with a message)

This blog is to spotlight and showcase aspiring country music artists and groups helping the build a following and gain exposure..

Jodi Ann...Beginning Her Dream.

I've been wanting to write a feature on singer-songwriter Jodi Ann for the longest time..I could never seem to find the the best way to approach it because I wanted to put together the best piece possible because she deserves it and because she herself is so busy that it has been quite difficult for her to find the time to be interviewed..I'm finally gonna try to do it based on the infomation I find and hope I do her justice..As I said, her name is simply Jodi Ann and while the name is simple..Her music speaks volumes..A native of Michigan, Jodi started writing poetry at the age of 12 and although she received her first guitar at the age of 8, she didn't start playing the instrument seriously until she was 24..Her first songs were poems to guitar noise but practice and hard work are paying big dividends now. From the age of 18 til the present she has been laser focused on building her music career. Jodi started her music career as a well-known karaoke DJ in Michigan and got her first "break" as the pre-opening act for Diamond Rio at the 1997 Michigan State Fair.

She moved to Nashville and October of 1998, where she landed her first professional public performance at the legendary Tootie's Orchid Lounge, where she was introduced by Opry legend Del Reeves..This performance led to other subsequent performances at The Bluebird Cafe and other night spots in and around Nashville..

While waiting tables in Nashville she started developing connections meeting with other folks in the music business and through those connections she began working on her first full length CD project called "The Beginning" last year, and since completing that CD she has started to make serious waves on the Indie Record Charts.
Jodi has also seen tremendous radio airplay..She has seen airplay on radio stations throughout Europe from England to Ireland and in Sydney, Australia as well, she also continues to do very well on various radio stations across the U.S. as a featured artist.

On Jan. 24, 2008 Jodi competed and won a major "Battle of the Bands" contest competing against bands from all genres of music.

Jodi has prominent feature profiles on every social and music based web community out there from My Space to Facebook, Direct Matches, The Outer Post and many other such sites..Jodi is currently working on her second CD and you can find her current CD "The Beginning" on http://cdbaby.com/ and http://soundclick.com/

I consider Jodi Ann to be a rising star, she brings a fresh face and a fresh musical approach to country music, she writes and sings from her heart and her style is classy and understated, which in the musical world of cookie cutter commercialism that lacks originality and has produced nothing really unique in quite awhile, Jodi Ann is a much needed breath of fresh air..In the interest of full disclosure I am personally acquainted with her, I hope to one day call her friend.

Facts about this artist are taken directly from information posted on her feature profile from CDBaby.com

Its pretty cool when you hear someone elses word about your past! Its an odd feeling to read your life in 3rd person! Its also wonderful! This is what a staff member wrote on lastfm.com! Please check out my artist page on that site! There is music on there that isnt on myspace :)

Jodi Ann is a singer/songwriter who was born and raised in Michigan. She started to write poems at the age of 12, received her first guitar at age 8, but did not learn to play it until she was 24. Her first songs were poems to guitar noise at 18 that lead her down the road of singer/songwriter.

Jodi Ann was a well-known Karaoke DJ in Michigan and was a pre-opening act for Diamond Rio at the 1997 Michigan State fair.

Jodi Ann moved to nashville in October 1998, with her first professional public performance at the famous Tootsies where was was introduced by country legend Dell Reeves. Other performances at the Bluebird Café and around Nashville rounded out a modest start to a potential career.

Jodi Ann saw a small break in meeting a singer while waiting tables in Nashville, though those connections she has since recorded her first full length CD, The Beginning, and is currently working on another.

She has seen radio airplay in Sydney, Australia with dj Dukerider, in the England area on the Monday mix with Emma Cherry, in Northern Ireland on aiiradio with dj Yorkie aka Andy aka John and a few various stations across the US! She was the Featured artist! On Indie Charts, on Jan. 24th 2008 and won the Battle on the bands contest competing against bands from all genres of music!

Current mood:  excited

The New Album, titled A Brief Moment In Time, is scheduled to be released in September 2008. Im hoping to push it up to August. Jodi Ann - The Beginning, My first album, Has been off the press since late July 2007 but just released to the public a few months ago. The first album has done incredibly well, much better than I expected actually :)

www.cdbaby.com/cd/jodiann

The Title cut of the new album, A Brief Moment in Time, is a heartfelt ballad that I wrote and cried over at the same time. Yes Im a sappy soul ;) It has so much meaning! Everybody will be able to relate to this song. It could have so many meanings! This past year, I have lost a very dear and personal part of me. This song is about losing or missing someone close. This year has been one of the hardest in my personal life and you will hear my heart break in this song.

I have on the new cd a song called Black Tears. I actually wrote this song many years ago. It has always stayed with me but I could never get it just right, musically speaking. The answer, Rick Finney. He helped me portray the meaning of the song with his wonderful lyric and composer abilities :) This song will definately have a women fan base. This is one that EVERY lady will be able to relate to. Maybe the boys should pay close attention to this one ;)

That is all the sneak previews for now................More to come!
