CITY JAMS!

Hey everyone!

It's been a little quiet in Pants-world as of late, but we're fixin' to change all that. As you may (or may not) know, I (David) am currently out on tour with K.C. (Clifford, my bride and partner in this craziness known as the music world), performing her music in venues across the midwest and east coast. I decided to attempt an exercise, a plan, a project if you will, to flex my creative muscles and to get some new Pants music out there to all our fans and friends. Thus was born "CITY JAMS", a group of songs, each of which is about a different city we are visiting on this tour. The best part? We're GIVING THEM AWAY FOR FREE. Each one will just be a little Garageband recording I make on this here laptop I'm typing on right now, but they are already shaping up to be some fun ditties.

What do you need to do to get them??

All you have to do is JOIN the Dr. Pants email list (at http://www.doctorpants.com..) before September 1st and I'll send an mp3 of each one to you as soon as it's finished. First up is Minneapolis/St. Paul. You'll get the lyrics in the email as well.

It's that simple. Time to rock to some CITY JAMS.

More soon,
David, Dustin, Aaron & Kenneth

Current mood:  curious
Hey folks, just a quick blog to remind you that Dr. Pants is playing
its first show of the new year this SATURDAY, at VZDs here in Oklahoma
City...It really is OKC's premiere rock venue, so we're really excited
about putting on a great show for you. Our friends Black Colt will be
opening the show (www.myspace.com/blackcoltband), and we're psyched
about that, too. It'll all start about 9pm, and it'll be $5 at the
door as usual.

I also wanted to mention that all the promotion for this show has
been online...I have not done any posters or flyers for this show.
Why not? I think our presence online has been what has set us apart,
and that most of our recognition has been achieved through the web.
Therefore, I chose to keep it virtual for this one. We'll see how it
works out, but please, as usual, bring friends and help us pack it
out. It really will be a great evening.

If you're in OKC, don't forget to pick up a Gazette this Wednesday
and check out the piece on Dr. Pants written by Charles Martin!

See you Saturday!

Okay, so I know you've read a number of blogs/bulletins from us in the last
week (I'm so not trying to annoy you), but I just wanted to let you
know, in case you've been waiting, that The Cusack-Loggins EP is now
available on iTunes, at the very reasonable price of $5.94 for the
whole EP! That's five cents cheaper than the download price at CD
Baby (although, if you download it from CD Baby, we get more of your
money). So, please go get our new EP from iTunes, or CD Baby. I
don't have a direct link for iTunes yet, but if you go to iTunes and
search "Dr. Pants" you should find it.

I say with great certainty that this EP contains some of the best
music Dr. Pants has ever made, so check it out.

Also, the first review of the EP is in, and boy is it glowing. Go to
www.sonicbytes.blogspot.com and read it!

David, Dustin, Aaron & Kenneth

P.S. David is leaving this Friday for a three week East Coast K.C.
Clifford tour! If you don't know K.C., or have not heard her music,
go to www.kcclifford.com and check her out! Click on the calendar
page and see if there's going to be a gig near you!

That's right, now that we've had our official release show here
in Oklahoma City for The Cusack-Loggins EP, it is officially available
for purchase through CD Baby. You can either get there from
www.doctorpants.com (there's a link in the news updates on the front
page), or by going to www.cdbaby.com/drpants3. You can either order
the CD and get it shipped to your house, or you can download high
quality MP3s directly from the CD Baby page! The MP3s are cheaper
than the CD (I'd advise going this route if you're going to download,
because it may end up being more expensive on iTunes). Go check it
out!

Meanwhile, we had a great time at our show last night. The audience
was fantastic and attentive, so we really appreciate all of you who
came and showed your support. Thanks again to CD Warehouse for having
us (specifically Jerry, Devin, Melissa and Sheila), and to Aaron,
Chelsee, Leslie, Zavier and Elijah for all their help. Special thanks
as always to our dedicated and talented sound man Jason Bondy. All of
you bring us one small step closer to showing the world that Dr. Pants
is something to believe in.

So, go buy a CD or download. We hope you enjoy this record as much
as we do.

Thanks,
David, Aaron, Dustin, Kenneth

Happy Halloween, folks! Hope you have a pleasant day today, but
remember that The Cusack-Loggins EP comes out TOMORROW! We're really
excited here in Pants-land to be bringing you a new EP, and even more
excited that we get to play a show for you in celebration of that
fact. Tomorrow night, November 1st, 8:30 pm at CD Warehouse (NW 39th
and Penn here in OKC). It'll cost you 5 bucks to get in, but it will
be worth every penny. Halloween will be over, but you can still wear
a costume if you want! Also, remember that if you think you'd like to
enjoy the concert sitting down, you should bring your own chair.

Also, if you want to hear the EP NOW, go to
www.doctorpants.com/music.html! The first six songs are the EP in
order!!

See you tomorrow night!

CD RELEASE PARTY FOR THE CUSACK-LOGGINS EP!! IT'S GONNA BE THE MOST
AWESOME THING EVER!!
Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Okay, first of all, let me be clear that it is CRAP HAT, just as one word. In case you haven't listened to the song yet.

I (David) am from Oklahoma City, but back in high school and college (especially in college) I had a number of friends who lived in Tulsa. I used to go to Tulsa for a day or two on breaks from school--Christmas, Spring Break, etc.

My Tulsa friends were inspiring, to say the least. Most certainly a creative, hipster brand of people. One of them, Brian Byrne, played guitar in the first incarnation of Dr. Pants. Some of the stuff they came up with is classic and survives to this day (at least, in my mind it certainly does). Kenny Loggins "Craphat" is a perfect example.

The story goes like this: one night said group of friends were sitting at Village Inn (the 24 hour restaurant of choice). This was not an unusual occurrence. Whatever discussion they were in most likely reached a lull, and a man named Tom, out of nowhere pipes up with: "Hey, did you guys know that Kenny Loggins put out an album in the seventies called "Kenny Loggins-Craphat"? And that on the front cover he was literally wearing a hat that looked like it was made out of shit?" Outlandish as this tale was, it certainly pales in comparison to the fact that the rest of my friends present at the time BELIEVED HIM. I mean, had I been there I probably would have WANTED to believe him...Kind of an unlikely story, but not altogether implausible. I mean, some of the album covers from the seventies are pretty ridiculous, aren't they? Is the "Craphat" concept really that much more obnoxious than, say, "Sloppy Seconds" by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show (go look that one up)?

So, fast forward to 24 hours later when said group of folks is back at (you guessed it) Village Inn once again. Tom breaks it to them that he made it up. This, of course, makes it all the more awesome and brilliant.

This is how I remember it...and I heard it second hand to begin with, so people who were there for real may want to add addenda to my story. Go for it. But this urban legend simply must be retold, and simply had to be immortalized in song. Hence the third verse of "Kenny Loggins", from our new release, THE CUSACK-LOGGINS EP. Enjoy.

So, first of all, a friendly reminder that our CD release for THE
CUSACK-LOGGINS EP is this coming Saturday, November 1st, at CD
Warehouse, NW 39th and Penn. It's 5 bucks, and starts at 8:30 pm. We
really hope you will be able to make it. Rock like this only happens
on rare occasions, I'm telling you.

Also, all 6 tracks from the new EP are streaming on doctorpants.com!!
Go to www.doctorpants.com/music.html to listen, or just go to the
home page and click the "listen" link in the nav bar at the top of the
page. I also hope to have a blog entry on the news/blog page (and on our myspace blog) by the end of the day explaining the LEGEND OF KENNY LOGGINS "CRAPHAT". That
way, you can all be in on the joke, and you can tell all your friends
when they ask you "What is he saying? What does Craphat mean?" So
anyway, go listen to the record and get primed to OWN IT.

Also, we're looking for a venue to do our annual (in theory, anyway)
DECEMBER MADNESS show here in OKC, probably on the second weekend in
December. We do have at least one lead, but we're looking to put
something definite on the books by the end of the week. If any of you
have suggestions, ideas, or a venue you could hook us up with, let us
know.

See you Saturday!

CD RELEASE PARTY FOR THE CUSACK-LOGGINS EP!! IT'S GONNA BE THE MOST
AWESOME THING EVER!!
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
So I've been kind of post-y (or bloggy) in the last 24 hours, with a couple of posts on the mixtapejones.blogspot.com blog already, but I just heard about the passing of these two men, and I simply must comment.

There is already a great deal of text out there that summarizes Foster's life and work, and I will not attempt to do that again here. In brief, he was a novelist and a journalist, and his work is both unbelievably challenging and unbelievably entertaining. I would recommend either THE BROOM OF THE SYSTEM or his first collection of articles A SUPPOSEDLY FUN THING I'LL NEVER DO AGAIN as a good starting point.

David Foster Wallace hung himself on Friday, September 12, 2008. He was 46 years old. He was truly one of the only literary voices that I have ever felt a true kinship with, the only other one possibly being Douglas Adams. DFW was truly literary, though, in a way Adams never was. In some ways, I feel unqualified to comment on his work in a real way, since I am not really a student of literature (at least, not beyond a high school honors course level). Me trying to truly comment on his work or critique it is kind of like someone who is not a trained musician trying to give a legitimate musical critique of, say, Frank Zappa (although, ironically, rock critics bag on him all the time and get away with it, whereas most folks who would attempt to criticize a literary figure like DFW would very much NOT). All I can really say is that I connected with the guy's writing, in an incredible way. His intelligence, his wit, his absolute genius in the realm of CREATING A SCENARIO OR ENVIRONMENT within which a story would take place is absolutely unparalleled, so far as I can tell. Although a number of endings to his works have proved to be unsatisfying to me (including the monumental INFINITE JEST, his second and now, final, novel), there is absolutely no way that I could come away from it feeling unjustified in the time it took to read it. In fact, I felt amazingly enriched and rewarded and entertained by the majority of every reading experience I had with the guy, no matter HOW the story ended. In non-fiction, he is just as, if not, MORE compelling. The aforementioned A SUPPOSEDLY FUN THING... shows just how virtuosic he is in his ability to generate interest in a subject through his verbiage. I just purchased CONSIDER THE LOBSTER, his second (and also final) collection of non-fiction, and I am chomping at the bit to read it. Also, if you are interested, go to http://www.thehowlingfantods.com/dfw/uncollected-dfw.html to download pdf's of his uncollected work. I just discovered this now, upon his death. Please continue to celebrate this man's work by going and checking some of it out.

What to say of Richard Wright? Keyboardist for Pink Floyd, and certainly an unsung hero in terms of their work. Wrote beautiful songs like "Us and Them", "The Great Gig In the Sky"...I think we all know that Pink Floyd's music would not have been the same animal without his keyboard work or vocals. That's about all I can muster up to say about the guy, except (depending on who you believe) that he was perhaps treated a bit more badly by Roger Waters than the rest of the group. Check out Nicolas Schaffner's A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS Pink Floyd biography for that angle (tellingly, Waters declined to be interviewed for the book).

Man, what a week. Loss at every turn. Hopefully things will start looking up after this.
