New Release From Phantom Channel

Konntinent - 'If I Could Buy A Map of Hope -- Volume 2' (PHCH008)

It's about time Phantom Channel issued something by Konntinent, aka London's Antony J Harrison, as he also co-curates the label. Alas, he's been busy recording for such esteemed labels including Symbolic Interaction, Dynamophone, Serein and Sonic Pieces

'If I Could Buy A Map of Hope — Volume 2' appropriately acts as an extension to the inaugural record found on ace German boutique imprint Sonic Pieces. Like its predecesor 'MOHv2' is an exploration of organic, free range melody and process moulded textures - an argument of stasis and free form.

In the palette this time around are some glockenspiels, some vocals, some splicing, some dicing and some dancing. Across 8 compositions 'MOHv2' touches various musical bases including Post-Rock, Soundscapes, Drone, Broken Vocal Songwriting and even Techno.

A must have for fans of Pan American, The For Carnation and 'Kid A' style fragmentary.

Volume 1 can be obtained from Sonicpieces

Phantom Channel is proud to issue its first physical release -- St Kilda's beautiful 'EP'.  Housed in a lovely 3" CD, the four tracks represent a different, more desolate side to that of Graham Richardson, who also records as Last Days.

St Kilda is the side-project of Last Days’ Graham Richardson. Having issued two critically acclaimed albums (soon to be three) through the evergreen n5MD, St Kilda acts as a distant counterpart or reprise to the themes established on his   2006 debut ‘Sea’.

From the lonely wind sounds that usher in opening number “This Small Boat” to the pure elegiac beauty of closing track “The Sirens”, St Kilda projects an emotional depth not normally associated with primarily digitally performed sound.Warm, shimmering soundscapes are formed using drifting, melancholic drones and subtle, heart-breaking harmonic shifts which mingle with intriguing forgotten sounds and digital scree.

JasperTX’s seminal “I’ll Be Long Gone Before My Light Reaches You” remains a suitable reference point and perhaps the more wistful aspects of Stars of the Lid’s repertoire. With four tracks gently unfolding over 20 minute duration, St Kilda will most definitely tug at your heart-strings, but those who listen deep enough will discover a journey of triumph over adversity

I'm back writing about music and once again enjoying after becoming overwhelmed by the amount of new music I was trying to listen to an review.  I've disabled friend requests here as it was actually becoming stressful trying to keep up with release dates and all.

Thanks to my friend Brett Spaceman, who kindly invited me to join his team of writers at his newly-founded webzine (sic) Magazine, I know have the spark and enthusiasm for it all again.  It's not so much a chore now, but an honour, I'm happy to report.  Please check (sic) out and support this worthy cause by visiting frequently

Eyes Flutter Beneathis keen netaudio student Harry Towell. Having released music as Audio Gourmet, straddling the various degrees of Ambient, through the likes of Webbed Hand Records, Towell now turns his attention to Phantom Channel, for his self-styled new direction of Bio-drone.

'Inside The Dream Laboratory' is designed for low-volume consumption, when sleep isn't necessary but, instead a natural, unhurried occurrence.
Humans are said to spend an average of 6 years dreaming in their
lifespan. Scientists have proposed many theories as to why it exists,
without ever determining a definitive answer.

It's this psyche
Towell intends to tap into, coiling deeply personal field recordings of
a biological nature round peaceful, unpolished ambient textures to
reveal a pure human element towards a genre that often strays in the
other direction.

Of course, the sound presented here is open to interpretation; The journey is very much your own as soon as you click play

Wo0is the founding member of the Belgrade Noise Society, a small group of
artists doing some strange things with the medium of sound. As an avant-guitarist Wo0, who has honed his art by performing with the likesof Fennesz, has christened his style as Sky-Noise.

Utilisinghisguitar as a receiver of signals, Wo0 captures the frequencies fromradios, computers, media players, remote controls, phones and otherinventive mobiledevices to create a very subtle, harmonic, deep andoscillatingsound.

His attempt to amplify the air has resulted in With the Flowered Mind a quite brilliant addition to the Phantom Channel catalogue

Stray Ghost - A House of Gold And Oak (PHCH005)

Following hot on the heels of two stellar records released on Dead Pilot Records and Highpoint Lowlife respectively, Stray Ghost delivers the monolithic ''A House of Gold and Oak" for Phantom Channel's 5th webrelease

Ghost is one Ant Saggers, who constructs deep drone steeped in a haunted melancholia. His music often teeters on the brink of oblivion, where throbbing pulses of sound and other sonic rumblings are in danger of consuming everything they touch. Yet, as this piece proves, his slowly intensifying sound exudes a sense of hope and optimism amidst the darkness as we are unwittingly led down an increasingly plaintive orchestral path.

'A House of Gold and Oak' unfurls majestically over almost twenty minutes, touching on cornerstones including Tangerine Dream and Godspeed You Black Emperor and finds Stray Ghost operating in a Symphonic-Drone stratosphere all to his own.
