Well guys it seems we missed this one almost but another review has appeared online (actually it was from 30th Sept 09 haha):

In the wilds of rock and roll, one thing often leads to another, and suddenly you find yourself somewhere you had no idea you were going... or in this case with a CD you might never have heard landing on your desk. Such is this case with the Bad Days EP from East Lancashire rockers Exit State, who fired their latest release off to Komodo Towers after seeing my review of the Wasted Angels gig at the Bridgehouse II, saying that "if you like them guys, Exit State will be right up your street!"

Well obviously I'm interested, intrigued, and suffering more than a little trepidation after the monster impact that particular gig made on me, as of course you can see in the review itself.

So what do we have here? Well, it's got some nice heavy riffs... meaty. It has some great melody too, nicely entwined with the meaty heaviness. That's two checks. Oh wait what's this... 'Death of a Rockstar', the third track here... is almost a ballad... ok, now we're at three marks and rocking out. It's not a power ballad in the sense of a glamtastic Power Ballad, but to a certain extent feels like it draws a large influence from bands like Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue in the construct if not the sound itself... yes it's still riffingly heavy, yet of course adds a superb change of pace to the album, slows things down nicely, before the EP kicks back in with an instrumental version of the title track.

"What else can I do man, I'm a fucking rockstar!"

That's the last part of the voice over at the end of Death of a Rockstar by the way.

Am I impressed, very much so actually.

While I'm not so sure that there are as many easy comparisons as was originally suggested, that's not to say that this wasn't right up my alley. When you throw hard edge meaty riffs into a belnder with dirty rock n roll megalomania, and come out with Exit State, well, I'm not about to complain.

Let's see how good they really are when they roll through town next though shall we?

Hey guys I just wanted to update you on how our recording sessions went for what will be our debut album.

We entered the studio Weds 2nd Sept having run an extensive pre-production phase on the tracks for the month prior.

During pre-production we had decided upon the tracks we wanted to record and these are as follows (in no particular order):

Stop Me

Lost Beyond Belief

And She Said

Death of a Rockstar Part 1

Out till 3

Dirty Intoxicated

Dominates Me

I know Where You Are

Joining the above on the album will be:

Death of a Rockstar Part 2

Bad Days

Well to say the recording went well would be an understatement.  Due to our producer cracking the whip like a scene from Planet of the Apes :P we managed to record all 8 songs in their entirety in just 5 days leaving lots of spare days for production ideas.

The project is now in the hands of our producer Steve Fenton, who is busy turning

As you can see above we have recorded a track named Death of a Rockstar Part 1.  This is a piece of music I wrote many, MANY years ago and with the Peats help have now turned this into a prelude for the Death of a Rockstar saga.  The track basically sets the scene for our protagonists’ demise.  We have also altered the EP version of Death of a Rockstar which is now Death of a Rockstar Part 2.  It has had layers of strings and percussion added in various parts to bring it in line with Death of Part 1 and it simply sounds immense.

During the recording phase we started to film various bits and bobs and have decided to do a short documentary detailing the two weeks.  It basically features the band titting around haha but im sure you guys will enjoy it.  We aim to have it all ready for the albums launch.

With regards to timescale, having recently spoken with our producer, we are still on course for a March 2010 release date for the album.  At present it’s still in mix and production stage albeit at an advanced stage.  Steve is determined to ensure it is of the highest quality and as such has no intention of rushing the production of the album.

Once Steve is happy with the production we intend to have a meeting to decide on the albums title and then from that will begin work on the albums artwork.

During that period the album will be sent down to the fabulous Ray Staff at Air Studios in London once again for mastering.

We have also decided that once the album is ready and mastered, we will have a listening party for you guys.  This will undoubtedly take place at our spiritual home The Sanctuary Rock Bar in Burnley :) details will follow much nearer the time but we want to have a party where you guys hear what we have been working on for the past 6 months prior to the launch.  We will have a special guest band entertaining on the night so we can get pissed and have fun without playing hahaha.

Ok guys that’s it for now.  Thanks very much for all your support guys and we will keep you up to date on how the album is progressing.

Warmest Regards

Roy

The band Exit State from the United Kingdom call their own style 'A Hi-Octane Rock Cocktail', and yes, that's what it is. But, let's look a little closer. The EP "Bad Days" has 5 tracks, plus the clip of the single "Bad Days". This includes one remix and one instrumental version of the single too. So, all around we got three songs to listen to.

The title track is rockin', and reminds me a bit of the young Berliner music-scene for the speed, the sound and the rhythm. This band could come from the capital of Germany, but no, they are from the island (cause of their sound and attitude, Germany could be a hotspot for them). There's a lot of pressure in the bass guitar and the drums, and also a lot of power in the vocals plus they did a very good job with the string parts. It seems Adam Stephenson, Roy Bright, Peat Hicks and Phil Ireland are pretty much in love with their instruments.

The sound of Exit State is fresh and young, and needs a little (more) time to grow up. But the basics are great. Absolutely up-and-coming.

The tip of the EP is definitely, "Death Of A Rockstar". Here the band gives everything! More effects, more ideas, more, more, more... definitely the best melody on the entire cd. Metal elements, gently vocals (which remind me of a mix of Dave Grohl and Patrick Stump), and influences from Metallica. Very cool.

Even though it was the first time I heard an instrumental track on a rock-EP, it's worth it. "Bad Days (instrumental)" gives a good look and place to make yourself a picture of the skill of Exit State. A nice idea. It's a pity the "The Retro 12" remix" of the title track was not really essential. Apart from the intro, there is no big difference to the original. The bottom line is a good, handmade sound, rockin' songs, and a young band which is heading for a great future if they give themselves room to breath and grow up.

"Bad Days" is not the holy grail of modern rock music, but it's worth to check up on this band. Anyone who likes independent guitar music, will like Exit State too.

Exit State

20 July 2009 / King Prawn Records / 5 Trk CD By Emily Slowlie

East Lancs may not sound like the sexiest of places for your band to hail from, but Exit State rock like they’re long time residents of LA. “Bad Days” is a convincing combination of new rock and charging post punk, with the dials set beyond the pulsing throb of hard charging modern rock n’ roll. Exit State have the harmonic strategies of 90’s alternative-Britrock and the widescreen attack of sub-metal, independent, underground guitar music. “Saviour” trundles along with a steam powered series of hammered down chords, whilst “Death Of A Rock Star” seems built for your local stadium, stretching itself between quiet and loud, with the notion that cigarette lighters and head banging gestures will be needed in equal measures.

Hey guys its with great pleasure that we announce our single 'Bad Days' is gonna be mastered by an absolute industry legend.

Ray Staff has worked with quite literally the best :)

Check out his portfolio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Staff

I will be heading off to London with the producer of the Bad Days EP - Steve Fenton (who has worked with The Happy Mondays, T-Rex, Clive Russel, John Helliwell, Mike Walker, New Mastersounds, Mark Hart, Sunny D Levine to name but a few) next Friday and I cant wait to meet Ray.

No doubt he will have kick ass stories about these legendary bands he has worked with/for :)

Just to keep you all updated, everything is still in place for a Mon 29th June release date on the Single/EP. The EP will contain Bad Days, Saviour and Death of a Rockstar - all 3 have been re-recorded and have something completely new to offer for all those that bought them on the Anybody Out There? EP

We will also be including the Bad Days video on the interactive CD and an extremely cool retro 80s style 12 inch remix of Bad Days courtesy of Mr Fenton himself - trust me guys it is absolutely blazing hahaha

So keep your eyes out for more updates guys and thank you all once again for coming and staying onboard with Exit State - I know a lot of you are messaging us daily saying June is too far away lol and to get our asses in gear and release it NOW GODDAMMIT :P

Patience guys - it will be here sooner than you realise :)
