Darkane will play in RumEtt at Dunkers Kulturhus (http://www.dunkerskulturhus.se),  Helsingborg, Sweden, Friday december 4th. Support act will be the punk band Slöa Knivar. The event will be held pretty early and Darkane will enter the stage at around 19:30. Entrance fee is 50 SEK. See you there!

www.metalreveiw.com has Darkane’s fourth album Layers of Lies (2005) on their list of the 100 most essential albums of the decade. Darkane is of course very honoured: http://community2.metalreview.com/blogs/editorials/archive/2009/10/02/the-100-most-essential-albums-of-the-decade-vol-iv.aspx

We are continuing to write the new album, and right now we are being pretty productive (for being Darkane).  We hope to record it within the first half of next year.

Whats up! Sorry about the lack of updates. Darkane has had some time off during the summer while Peter Wildoer has been busy touring with Pestilence. We played the Roskilde festival in Denmark and the Brutal Assault festival in the Chech Republic this summer, and they both felt  very successful.  Next up is the Underground thrashfestival in Oslo, Norway October 10th (thrashfest.soulscarred.com/). We are also working on a very cool tour pretty far away from where we live, but it will be official when its 100% confirmed.
During the summer Peter, Klas and I have come with ideas and riffs for the next album, and Jens has written some lyrics. We have now started to gather together and put our ideas into actual songs. We are very eager to start recording the next album, and I think we have come up with some very cool stuff so far.
Til next time, stay metal!

DARKANE - WORKING ON NEW RECORD

DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström has issued the following band update:
"We're back in Sweden from a what we believe was a very successful tour in North America together with Soilwork, Warbringer and Swallow the Sun.   Thanks a lot to the other bands, crew, and all the fans that showed up and made us feel welcome. Playing 50 shows in 52 days was kinda tough, but we’re very happy we managed to pull it through without any bigger issues.   Now we are focusing on writing new material for the next album but before that, we played a show at The Tivoli in our home town Helsingborg on Saturday April 4th, and then we have the Roskilde and Nuclear Assault festivals booked for this summer, and hopefully more will show up. Next week, [DARKANE drummer] Peter Wildoer will head out on a European tour with Pestilence for three weeks.

I am also very proud to announce that I am now officially endorsed by Steve Clayton guitar picks. I have been using Clayton pics (1.26 mm) since the middle of the nineties. Since DARKANE’s music is based on accurate playing I need a pick that feels steady and that I can count on when I hit my strings very hard. With the Clayton picks, I get a very good and reliable grip allowing me to alter between fast and rhythmic playing without having to think about what my right hand is doing.

See you out there!"

Metalheads!

Here’s Christofer with an update from the road! We are cruising towards San Francisco as I write this. Such beautiful sights outside the bus windows!!

The tour is still going very well for Darkane altough we’ve had some serious problems with illness and everybody except for Jens is in a pretty bad shape right now. After Klas left us in Mokena we were joined by great guitar shredder Toby Knapp, but unfortunately he also got ill and had to leave the tour after nine shows. Thanks Toby, you did a great job!!! We have now decided to do this tour as a four piece unit, and it’s working out pretty well I must say.

We did 9 shows in snowy Canada, and the audience has been great all the way. We have played pretty weird places such as a campus and a roller skating rink, but wherever we’ve been we’ve felt very welcome! Now we are looking forward to do the west coast and get some warm air in soary throats.

That’s it for now! Take care and if we haven’t met yet, go check the shows out! We have about three weeks left on this tour!

In metal!

DARKANE - DEMONIC ART - LANDS ON BILLBOARD HEATSEEKERS CHART

DARKANE’s fifth studio album, Demonic Art, has sold over 640 copies according to Nielsen Soundscan in the first week of release and landed at #104 on the Billboard Heatseekers (Top New Artist) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.  With over 240 digital sales of Demonic Art, the total number of albums sold during the first week of release registers over 880 copies.

Checking in from their current North American tour with Soilwork, Warbringer, and Swallow The Sun, DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström responds to the positive news:
“We are very happy to have landed on the Billboard charts for the first time in our career!  Thanks to everybody who has bought the album so far.  This feels great and hopefully the huge North American tour that we are doing right now will make more people know about us. The tour has been very successful so far and we still have about 5 weeks left.  If you haven’t bought the album yet, please go get it.  DARKANE is here to stay!”

According to Metal Edge’s March 2009 interview with Malmström, inspiration for his lyrical contributions to the album “came from a variety of sources.  ‘Execution 44’ was inspired by a book about a woman living in a Polish concentration camp and what her life was like before she was executed.  ‘Wrath Connection’ was inspired by a Dean R. Koontz novel in which a sane person and a serial killer can see into each other’s realities.  ‘Still In Progress’ acknowledges that the band remembers its fans and is continuing its journey forward.”

I’m currently sitting in the
tour bus we’re sharing with Soilwork on our north american tour. We are
about to arrive in West Springfield, VA where we’ll be playing at the
Jaxx in a couple of hours.

We started out
in snowy Rochester, NY and Detroit, MI before we had our first (out of
two) day off. The crowds reaction has been very positive from day one,
and Darkane gets the feeling that a lot of people has been waiting for
us over here. After the day off in Lousville, KY where we watched some
UFC 94 in the tourbus we headed for Nashville, TN, and then four stops
in Florida. We had our summer clothes ready but it turned out that St.
Petersburg, FL had it’s coldest day in 17 years on the day of our show.
However, we’ve got to see a lot just wandering around the cities we
played and we have enjoyed it all! After Atlanta, GA, Charleston, SC
and Charlotte, NC it’s time to travel up north in the New York area and
then Canada, before heading west.

We also got to
know the cool people in Swallow the Sun from Finland, and the cool
american doom band Daylight Dies who did their last show last night in
Charlotte and will be replaced by Warbringer from now on until the end
of the tour. Good luck in the future!

The shows gets
better and better every night and we feel that we have a very intense
set. Make sure you check us out on this tour as all bands on this bill
are great and giving it all! We also have some cool merch, so bring all
the money you have! =)

See you out there!

What’s up! The new year has begun and we in Darkane are very positive
about whats to come. We have the massive north american tour with
Soilwork, Warbringer and Swallow the Sun starting in Rochester, NY in
only one week. We are very excited about this and we hope to see as
many of you as possible there. When the tour is over we are once again
going to play The Tivoli in our hometown Helsingborg (April 4th), and
then we are going to do some very cool summer festivals that we will
announce quite soon.

You might have seen it already on some
metal news sites, but Klas will not be able to participate on the whole
american tour. This is becuase the tour is extremely long, and it’s
hard to be away from obligations back home and Klas unfortunately has
his reason to fly back home after the Mokena, IL show. This is of
course very sad for us and Klas, but at the same time we are very happy
to welcome former Onward/Waxen, current solo performing guitarist Toby
Knapp to join us for the rest of the tour! Toby didn’t hesitate to step
in and help us out, and we are very thankful and happy that he will be
a part of Darkane for the last month of the tour. He has recently
released a solo album called Misanthropy Divine. Check it out if you
are into quality metal guitar playing!

That’s it! See you out there!

Darkane

Thank you very much! Take care!

Hey there! We're very happy to unleash the new Darkane site. Our Webmaster Adam has done a great job yet again, thanks.

We've just returned from a successful Italian mini-tour and we would like to take the opportunity to thank our good friends
Subliminal Crusher and Marita (Mrs Mustaine) for a very well organized tour, along with the fans that showed up,
also the Swiss fans that came to the Swiss shows some weeks ago!

It's been great to try some new songs of 'Demonic art' live on these gigs and the reactions have been very positive.
Right now we are taking care of the final arrangements for the upcoming US tour early next year. It will be a long tour
(50 gigs in 52 days!!!) that covers a lot of the US. Hope to see you there. We will also make sure to have some songs
rehearsed that we didn't play last time we toured the US.

Make sure to check back here to keep updated on what Darkane are up to. Stay metal!

Today is not only the anniversary of different horrible events in New York, Chile and Stockholm, but it is also ten years since Darkane played our debut live show. It was played at Fellinis in Uppsala, Sweden on September 11th 1998.

....

....

We had been to Uppsala (six hours of driving from our hometown Helsingborg) for the last two weeks of August to record our debut album Rusted Angel were we also met Lawrence Mackrory for the first time. We had gotten in contact with Lawrence when producer Daniel Bergstrand recommended him before the recording, and we took a shot that turned out to be a very good one. However, Lawrence made it clear that he wanted us to find another vocalist asap since he wanted to focus on his other bands.

....

....

Anyway, by the end of the recording Lawrence got us a gig at Fellinis which was a very small bar with metal theme evenings every now and then. We drove to Uppsala early on the Saturday morning and got to rehearse together with Lawrence at his rehearsal studio for a couple of hours before the show. This was actually the first time Darkane played together as a complete band. The show went pretty well... nothing special. The only one in the audience who knew our songs was producer Daniel Bergstrand. I think we played all songs from Rusted Angel except for The Chase for Existence which is the song we like the least on that album.

....

....

After the show we had a party at the club and then slept in Lawrence rehearsal studio before driving back to Helsinborg the day after. The show was caught on video camera and the song The rape of Mankind ended up on the bonus material on our upcoming DVD Layers of Live. Speaking of that DVD, you might wonder what happened to it. It is completed and everything but Nuclear Blast didn't want to release it before our next album Demonic Art was released, so we will have to wait until approximately May 2009 before it's released. Too bad, but the most important thing is that it WILL be released some day... and the wait WILL be worth it.

....

....

That's it for this time. Rock the fock on... or something.
