#10.  “Goon Skit”.

Yo…goons are sooooooooo funny man.  Like… funny man.  I’m sure some goons think I’m funny too…but ‘ey…who doesn’t *laughs*!  Every time I hear the words “goon”… I immediately think of The Goonies (I love that movie by the way)!  The word “thug”… seems funny as all out to me… all I see in my head is this dude saggin’ his pants to the point where he can barely walk, his dookie locks, his shirt off… askin’ folks for a $1 to get a black!  *laughs*… ahh maaan!!! 

So yeah… I informed DX on the idea and I gave him freedom control of the skit.  I gave him my ideas on how I vision it… but dude ran full force w/ it! *warps*…

…my idea ya ask:  like… why do folks do that?!?!!?  Also…do these goons and thugs REALLY know the meanin’ of bein’ goons and thugs???  Like…90% of ‘em are either smart turn dumb, BET/MTV’ed out, or just saw someone doin’ it and just HAD to follow suit.  All that “keepin’ it real” and “I’m built like this” and “I’ll die ‘bout mine (but ya have NOTHIN’…not even a piece of mind)” stuff isn’t needed man… for real.  What happen to just bein’ YOU and lettin’ it show what you were…vs. goin’ ‘round sayin’ that you do this and that…and ya lookin’ like a fool…like dude/lady “be cool”.  I mean…goon and thug out if ya please… but all the extra stuff…not needed.  *warps back*…

…honestly, I was NOT expectin’ to get that back w/ that quality… well taste, for a lack of a better word.  It just goes to show ya that you can say “the grass is green” and 2 different folks have different looks on it…that’s what ya call “dopeness”!  The message he portrayed (literally and subliminally… *thinks and scratches “subliminally” and replaces w/ “directly”*) was GENIUS!  Like…folks really are on that tip… and DX handled business on there. 

I heard it on a Sunday mornin’… I swear… I cried my eyes out laughin’ at this skit!!!!!  My apologies yall…but this whole “goons” and “thugs” stuff is funny… well… in this moment in time.  That’s all I’ma say on that. 

DX did EVERYTHIN’ you heard on the Goon Skit… the voices, the infamous beat (watch out for that too… *winks*), everythin’ on there.  Spoony D repped on there *laughs*!!!!!

Good day/evenin’ everyone.  Continuin’ on w/ the show.  I’m really not in the mood to be writin’ this shit but I need to keep it movin’ and not slow up.  *throws out*…

#9.  “Something More” feat. T-76.  Produced by Quulam of 33 1/3 Productions. 

Same hot ass house…not sure of what place I was in life…I’m sure it was on some “fuck a woman” tip…not too hard but the average dosage I usually obtain…and Fabolous song “Make Me Better” came in my head.  A light bulb came on in my head like “I need to do that type of song for the album”.  Who was gonna make the beat though?  I thought of Junkie…naw…Tru…ehhh… *light bulb comes on again*… *makes call to T-76 first*.  We always were speakin’ on how we respected each other crafts and such…we even agreed to do an album together…some Kells/Jigga stuff (I’m still waitin’ on that homie…that’s if ya even readin’ it *shakes head and hope the brother’s okay*)…but in due time…I wanted him to bless my ideal “woman” track. 

My homie Quulam (Deshawn)…we had been talkin’ on a good basis…T-76 was makin’ his respected move…and Al was ‘round.  They were 33 1/3 Productions.  Like...quick reference…even now…I look at folks as “bosses”…like a boss basically runs shit…fluently and make sure his folks ‘round him/her are good to go…in most cases…sometimes all cases.  These dudes were bosses to me.  Think what ya wanna think…but I admired these dudes.  In my eyes…Tru.ski, Junkie… *long pause*…

…forgive me yall.  My brain is back on it.  *shuffles through thoughts*.  Bosses…yeah…Shirl Dee…others but I’m not gonna sit here and name all of ‘em.  Anywho…Deshawn always encouraged me to pursue my music…he always spoke highly of me…and at this point in my music moves, hearin’ that made me feel like Superman…on the flip…a lazy Michigan J. Frog…scared but confident.  Deshawn has a dope work ethic…and his production is crisp and thought through…like it doesn’t sound rush.  He’s a music guru too…I remember him showin’ me his playlist on his iPod…I freaked out ‘cause he had some good Hip Hop…I’m talkin’ ‘bout Common “Can I Borrow A Dollar”…Hip Hop folks.  That was my official “fall in love” experience w/ Apple… *waves PetePod proudly*…he’ll be one on Father’s Day *laughs*!!!  We agreed to do some music together though…and I kept draggin’ my feet…but I had to pick the feet up…

…fast forward time…me, T-76, and Deshawn set up a time to all meet up and vibe on this pre-ladies jam for Al.  I was nervous man…no lie.  Coolin’ w/ T-76 was like coolin’ w/ a family member…the music driven brother/cousin in ya family…every word he spoke…he would relate it back to some music.  Example:

Pete:  man…traffic was bad as all out dude…geesh!

76:  I was in traffic and heard some horns and I was like *does James Brown sounds*…that should be a song! *laughs*!!!...

…but it was cool though…it was music…and I do the same thing.  Deshawn was coolin’ in his chair (as always)…we talked…vibed…a bass line came up.  I nod…we talked…we joked…vibed…Triton gets pulled out…minutes later…76 playin’ cords.  I nod again…we continue talkin’…jokin’ lightly…I’m vibin’ (by this time, I’m calm…in my groove)…production is done.  I nod again…we all agreed on the production bein’ fine…we go back to talkin’…at this point…I’m wanted some vodka…we all vibin’… *76 speaks*…I’m ready to record.  I’m lookin’ crazy…minutes later…hook is done.  CD is burnt w/ the production w/ hook…it’s handed to me.  Both of ‘em look like “handle it homie”.  Talk about nerves bad… *screams*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

I get home…upload it on my PC…get to vibin’.  Like I said…I wasn’t in that “mode”…but that’s where the artist comes in at.  At this point…I wanted to do the Love Trilogy so this song had to be good…despite it was a different song I would typically write/record.  I had to throw alittle of myself in there…at the same time, be simple and clear on the joint…for folks to comprehend, ya see?  Like…some of the stuff I wrote, I felt was sooo corny *laughs* (i.e. “…ya got Pete in ya palms like Allstate…”, “…when we bed rockin’ like Barney and Betty…”…CORNY!!!)…BUT…women would love it…I had to go w/ that…and use the tone and suaveness that I have *winks*…come off gentle on a woman…but still be ‘self.  I definitely had to keep in mind that this is the part where the man comes back and reunites w/ his lady…on some “I apologize” type deal.  I wanted to show that some men DO have hearts and feelings and think.  This is the part basically where the dude “gives in” and makes his situation a better one and realizes what he has and what her worth is about.  I had to stick w/ the script.  Hopefully it worked.  Folks groove off the song all the time…I be thinkin’ like “ummm…are yall listenin’ to the words?!”  It took me ‘bout a week to write it…’bout a month to record it.

The recordin’ process…I was soooo nervous yall.  I knocked it out though…had fun doin’ it.  That bridge in the 3rd verse was suppose to be T-76 but…he started becomin’ missin’.  That might have been the last time me and Deshawn interacted…maybe once afterwards but…that was it.  Deshawn coached me through the joint…what’s funny was that on the 3rd verse…he was like “put some Electric Relaxation funk on it”…background vocals are the best.  I remember tellin’ dude I wanted him to see me perform this song…whenever that was.

I remember lettin’ the infamous Janay hear it.  At the time…well period…I had certain folks listen to my tunes…who I knew would give me their honest opinion…Janay was an “honest opinion” person.  When she stated she liked it…I was good to go.  I say that ‘cause she’s knowledgeable of Hip Hop…she respects and appreciates it (she’s also a dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, the whole Harvard University, an episode of Ren and Stimpy, and a beautiful soul…wrapped in one).  I mean…I still thought it was corny but ‘ey…she called everythin’ corny (if it was appropriate to be called that…that’s when Souljah Boy came out…YOOOOOUUUU!!!...um yeah…corny)…so if mine was excused…I was good *laughs*!  So on w/ that…”Something More” got is seal of approval…from that point and after a couple of folks heard it over some months.  At first…I was like “gosh…why I did this cornball ass song?!?!”…now…I ain’t gonna lie…that’s my meal ticket.  *thinks of marketin’ plan*.

Time flies by like crazy…me, Deshawn, and T-76 lose contact like crazy…I’m callin’ the studio and all…I’m getting’ “he’s not here”…I’m like “this dude LIVES in the studio”.  T-76…just disappears on me.  Al…same too.  Oh well…gotta keep it movin’.  It’s time to get music mixed/mastered.  I need the files…this was ‘round August…maybe September ’08.  No Deshawn… *wonders*.  Nevertheless (at the time)…Shout Out hooked me up.

I didn’t get a chance to perform the song ‘til like…October ’08 I think.  I was invited to perform it at Arielle’s.  Me, A.M.P., Courtney Harris blessed the stage…and “Something More” was introduced.  I remember talkin’ to Amo that night…I was extremely mad I didn’t have any promotional stuff and everyone else did.  I had that ‘oh God…folks gonna look at me like I’ma zombie’ feelin’…folks didn’t respond to me ‘TIL I did “Something More”.  I had roses and passed ‘em out…I believe it went well.  *high fives Amo*.  So I catch some air…see my good friend Ms. Tramayne and we politic as usual.  We speak on each other’s projects, I ask what’s good w/ Deshawn.  Wrong thing to ask.  Heart sunk to my damn feet yo…the first time I perform that song…he’s not ‘round to see it…later on, he would but not no time soon.  *pauses*…

I believe I explained the whole Love Trilogy deal…I know we missin’ one song but I’ma come back on that tip.  Ms. Takara is the hold up *laughs*!!  So yeah…that’s what it is…I’ll handle that.  I’ll wrap that Trilogy up when we post “Only One”…cool?  I know I’m on some Pulp Fiction stuff but ‘ey.

Shouts out to Deshawn…aka Quulam (I really hope I’m spellin’ this right…but I didn’t call him that folks…level please).  I’m holdin’ it down for ya…thanks SO MUCH for havin’ faith in me when I didn’t see it in myself…I’m tryna get to “boss” status…thanks for everythin’ ya said, did, encouraged…all that man…and a BIG thanks for givin’ me my meal ticket… *looks at Deshawn…along w/ DeJuan, Tru.ski, Junkie, Shirl, Amo, Ron Gant, and everyone else whose focused to make moves*…AMEN.  Let’s eat…

#8.  Girl Skit.  Voices by Amo, Kris Hart, and Cris Lopez.

This is the prelude to the Love Trilogy.  To explain it to my lurkers and folks that lack “TAI”…the Love Trilogy consists of “Only One feat. Ms. Takara Houston (Wifey…thanks for everythin’…you’re a beautiful soul on stage and off…your turn to rock now)”, “Love/Hate”, and “Something More feat. T-76 (where the hell is he?!)”.  It’s out of order…but ‘ey…we’ll explain it when time for that blog.  Any who…me and Amo were speakin’ back and forth on how I was gonna execute this.  Amo hooked up the skeleton of how the plot should run…I read over it…and it was a go.  Sidey:  come to think on it Amo…we did a mini castin’ call huh…movie action…and we spoke on this last night…how word is that?!...*high fives Amo*…!!  Not sure on who suggested ‘em (probably Amo) but we decided to use Amo’s close folks…Kris Hart aka Coolie Hart, Cris Lopez aka Gangsta Lo, and Katie aka ‘KT’ (Cat Lady *laughs*)…better known as THE GOLDEN GIRLS!!  *prepares crickets*…so KT didn’t make it…for whatever reason *corner eyes her as she reads this*…but we set up the time to record it.  Let’s travel back…

…this skit was supposed to be differently than this.  I actually was supposed to have a couple of skits throughout “TAI”.  I was suppose to have one in front of “HNIC”…and like…random folks speakin’ on stuff…ya know…’talkin’ ‘bout it’…but it didn’t happen.  Maybe that explains why this skit was so damn long *laughs*!!  Oh well…I believe it was a dope prelude to what I was speakin’ on (will speak on that in a second)…

…alrighty…so we set up time to record and they met me at DX spot.  The skit (recordin’ part) was actually 7 minutes long…the first like 2 minutes was us preparin’ for the moment…and me fussin’ at Cris…she kept complainin’ ‘bout the time…like she really had somewhere to be!  UUUGGGHHH!!!!!!!!  She’s feisty like that…but it’s all in fun.  Good attitude nevertheless.  Now…Kris was posted up…coolin’.  Like for real-for real…coolin’.  She’s such a cool ass lady…demeanor is like…cool.  Amo…the tender carin’ lady she is…was soooo nervous!!!!  Ya can tell in her voice…like someone was ticklin’ her throat w/ a raccoon’s tail *laughs*!!!! 

…and ACTION!!!...

…it was hot in there too…!!  I wanna say we recorded this before my birthday…I might be wrong…I just know it was miserably HOT in that studio!!!!!  Cris was complainin’ ‘bout that as well *grins*.  The conversation was goin’ well…I remember Kris Hart just comin’ in and sayin’ “okay, so what’s up w/ yall for the 4th?”…ACTION!!!!  From that point on…it was a go.  It went smoothly…long…but smoothly.  I couldn’t ask for a better skit…better cast and all.  Just…dope.

…*listens to 7 minute joint*…I love it man…I think I need to get the bloopers for “TAI”.  If yall wanna hear it, let me know…shoot me the email and I’ll shoot it to yall.  It’s quite funny to me. 

*Kris comes on*...”ya got that real Hip Hop…then ya got that play-play Hip Hop”…gosh!!!  *screams*!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Kris, you’re the best.  These ladies sounded GREAT ON THIS!!!!  The whole “far, few, and between” break down is relevant as hell.  Just…good stuff.  Thanks ladies.

Like…this is a typical conversation between women that are involved in relationships w/ quote-unquote…”rappers” or dreamers.  Some might not go that way…but the thoughts DO go through women head…even if they see the “tangible” things (and face it…most folks don’t think bein’ a Hip Hop artist, rapper, emcee is worth strivin’ for…I’ll leave that beast alone though).  Now…granted…if dude isn’t on the balancin’ tip, isn’t workin’, moochin’ off her, etc…then it can be a problem but ya have those naggin’ ass women that complain ‘cause all they want is their man to be up in ‘em 24-7…and that’s not realistic to do.  I mean…real talk folks… *contemplates*…*scratches idea*…

…I just wanted to share my views on the average relationships…wanted to speak for the men AND for the women.  Folks ask…have I gone through this particular situation…well yes I have…but writing these series of songs, I had to step out of my character and speak in general, so this isn’t directed to anyone (I’m an artist…remember that).  I see plenty of relationships go down the drain…’cause either a woman strong holds the man (which you CAN NOT MAKE A MAN DO WHAT YOU WANT HIM TO DO) or the man isn’t willing to submit to his lady’s feelings/wants/needs/etc.  It’s that balance folks…communication.

It’s plenty of other factors in relationships but I really feel like communication is the main thing.  Yeah…all that “love” and “trust” and “honesty” and blah-blah is cool…but w/ no communication, all that other stuff is null and void.  That’s MY feelings…*pauses*…

…so I’ma cut this short…we’ll get into all that in the process of explainin’ the next 3 songs.  I could write a damn book off this topic…straight up.  Oh yeah…

…I was at Art Walk last week right…heard ONE good thing ‘bout this skit.  My homie Big Dunn (…yes, he was half drunk but I truly felt like he would have said it on a sober tip)…he expressed how he loved the skit and how it connected to the other songs…he elaborated on the whole transitionin’ of the songs…made me feel really great.  Like… “someone really ‘got it’”…and what’s funny is that it was a man that said it…all the other women that spoke on it expressed how the women on the skit sounded like typical bitches and how it was long *shrugs shoulders*…I think some of ‘em see themselves in that skit but ‘ey…
